15/01/2008 - after the floating market, we headed to Krabi... however, just 300km at around 6pm plus before Krabi, Silverwing's had electronic problem.... the battery went flat!.... The good thing is that I did bring along a new spare battery (S4 spare battery) by using multimeter we found out that the battery is not charging... we tried to get to the next town (Surat Thani) before sunset as Silverwing head light has turned off. Reached Surat Thani at around 8pm. Using the multimeter again, we suspected that the magneto was not generating power.

16/01/2008 - using Fatboy to charge the a spare battery, we managed to reach Krabi without changing the battery. Upon reaching krabi, we visited a Singaporean mechanic who own a shop there to troubleshoot the problem. True enough, the magneto was faulty. Called a friend in Singapore to order the magneto and send it to Hatyai. The magneto can only reach us after 10am on 18/01/2008. We were wondering whether to go to Hatyai and collect the magneto and then return to Krabi to get it fix or just ride to hatyai and get it fix. We decided to ride to Hatyai as it was only 370km away.

18/01/2008 - it took us around 7hrs to reach Hatyai including 4 times of battery changing, lunch and shelter from rain. Went to a shop which service big bikes and was charged $1000 baht for the labour (I know it was expensive as I did change in Singapore for only S$30). Glad that the mechanic did a good job and we were able to continue our journey back to Singapore on 19/01/2008.

19/01/2008 - reached Singapore at around 10pm plus and went home straight.

See if any bros here got any coil problem to share with us lor.. :giddy:

This coil problem shared by a lot of Honda's - Even my Foresight 250 had to change twice. Enquired with some Honda contacts in Japan and it seems that the sub contract supplier of the coils for all the models is the same and could be the quality of the winding (copper) and the Insulation protection - which all seems to deteriorate quite fast when subjected to sustained high heat & humidity.

One piece of advise they gave was to try to protect ingress of water and use some water repellant lubricant spray on the coil and connections when you re-assemble. Also if possible put a bag of Desicant or Cilica Gel to absorb the moisture. Sounds great but not easy to do.

I m gonna try re-winding a coil with better quality copper wire and marine type insulation / packing and see if this may be a permanent cure - it going be a lot of work !!

Let you all know in due course !!

wat brand of tires u talking abt? Pirelli tires??

they have the sizes for your bike. its whether u able to get it or not.

in the michellin website, if u search tires for honda silverwing, the result is only gold standard. but the distributor didn't bring this size in. pilot sport is not in the result page. but got the correct size.

bridgestone makes good and quality tires. just too bad the Hoops front tires are kinda slippery. but u can adjust the tire pressure to accomodate the different tarmac u travel on. for silverwing this pair of tires are still one of the best.

till now. the best tire for silverwing is still the IRC Japan tires which comes with the bike. go check out the overseas silverwing forums. this is still one of the best recommended tires. just dun understand why so many people just dun wan this tires. just because of bad experience with the thai made IRC tires. these people never really test out these tires but just change them away.

u can't just base on one mech's opinion then judge. u got to be more hard working to ask around and find out more. this is for u and your pillion's safety. dun forget u haven't really play many different types of tires b4. scoots are quite different from normal bikes.

Bro,

I'm using Michellin Pilot Sports now.

No problem so far.

Went touring on it.

Cornering also very alright.

My opinions only.

i'm using IRC stock tires..

dry road i can say it good..

but wet condition is not very good.. kinda slippery..(but which tires is not slippery on wet condition)

gold standard used on my X9 before.

dry condition same as IRC..

well condition i would say better then IRC (doesn't mean it not slippery but slightly better then IRC)

hoop my friend told me the same..

dry is good..

wet is the same.. slippery..
