When I bought my 2nd hand bike, IU was spoilt. Shop say don't have second hand IU and must wait long long. Is this a standard practice? Or was I conned :\

Bro, same case for me..I pissed off and got a new set myself..Dun know how much u have to pay for repair and so to save the hassle, i got a new one since i riding long term..

by right it shouldn't be spoilt, even if it is they should replace it for you FOC unless they mentioned that it is not working before you bought it and u still wanted to buy the bike. if you are going to buy a new one, here is something from LTA webby

 

Q: Can motorists request to purchase and fit a new IU if they have a working current IU that is not faulty?

 

A: Yes. The new IU will be chargeable at a cost of $155.80 (after GST and inclusive of fitting charges). Motorists can visit any of the LTA Authorised Inspection Centres to purchase the new IU, subject to the availability of the stock. Motorists are also advised to call and check with the Authorised Inspection Centres before making the trip.

u can try call in to check. i've never done my iu before cauz it's still working and i got this from lta webby FAQ

its a standard practice. bikeshop usually wont mention about IU condition, be it in good or bad shape. you should had asked. anyway i also same same never asked, bought already then realise iu got one huge whole cover by a kit kat sticker. took out the sticker then see the hole, ride for a few weeks water go in already. lol
