can i ask some crucial and impt questions here? sorry that is abit OT from the thread. i have a friend who is gonna transfer his TA150 to me. the plate is a FR plate, almost 10 years old bike and problem free (i trust what he say). he letting it go to me only @$200. however the COE and road tax is expiring this coming sept, sept 2009. issit a worth it deal? i can only ride it for only abt 5 months before i need to renew COE and road tax. can i apply for a 5 year COE instead of a 10 year COE? issit renewable if i opt for the 5 year COE extension?

another question, can i apply for insurance upon completing the transfer of ownership procedure or do i need to get insurance for the bike 1st? if i want to add a sub-rider does the sub-rider need to be there in person?

im very excited as this is my 1st bike. sorry for the noob questions.

I heard many forumer mention that if you renew ur COE for 5yrs, you'll not be able to renew it again once its due.

HiHi,

i can only help to reply you for the 2nd question. If you are going to bike shop to do transfer thingy, they'll automatically ask you to apply insurance( wanna earn ur $ ) and ur NRIC might put there for more then 1 wk because usually they will consolidate all the transferring bikes before they send to LTA to do it.

If ur fren help u go LTA transfer it, then no need to wait lo.

Heard that can apply online. Not sure how true is it. May be you can asked around.

yes need to apply for insurance upon completing the transfer of ownership procedure. U can call up to NTUC to ask them quote for you.

thing they might asked

-NRIC

-Plate no.

-Date when u pass your license

-Birthday

i tink mainly these ba... the rest forget liao. hee..

About sub rider, hmm you'll be the 1 who will still be paying for the insurance because it'll be under ur name, but NTUC will still quote for him too. If you sub, then depends how often he rode it. you guys can nego with each other lo.

The most impt is, u have to find some 1 elder then you. IF u find some 1 younger then you, then NTUC will quote under him.

ppls correct me if i'm wrong or miss out something..

expect of the unexpected !!:box:

You can't renew COE again if you extend it for 5 years; it needs to be scrapped. If the condition of the bike is really that great, it's worth it. Rough estimate - (200 + 450 + 70*5 ) you can ride for another 5 years 5 months.

Usually before transferring ownership, you'll need to purchase your insurance first. Sub-rider doesn't need to be there, just need his/her IC during the purchase of insurance.

thanks for the replies thus far.

the current owner of the bike will be going down with me to LTA to do the transfer. Can i apply for insurance on the spot after the transfer is done? my friend say the insurance can settle at LTA there. this ride is just gonna be temporary until i can upgrade to 2A bike.

As for the insurance premium they will aways take the younger rider's premium which is higher than a older rider. for example: if i sub under a older person the insurance premium will be my quote likewise if a younger rider sub under me the insurance premium will be the younger rider's quote. recently, went down to ntuc income for quotation (3rd party) they quote me $500++, if sub (rider 4 years younger than me, he also p plate) the quotation is $700++. abt $200 difference.

can someone pls guide me along abt the legal procedure?

You need to have your insurance in hand before you reach the LTA office for transfer. The nearest place would be Anda Insurance at 215S Upper Thomson Road, within 1 km of LTA.

Do it soon. Your probation period starts from the date you apply for your photocard license.

Go for it. Renew 10 years if you can afford it.
