Sex Kid

I believe I have said too much, more than what I should say.

Perhaps we should arrange for another meet-up and invite Mr Alex, so that he can share his personal experiences with us.

Aside to Alex, sincere apologies if you feel offended with me revealing too much.

Thanks for your advices over SMSes too. Would like to find out more from you too. Thank you.

Dear Keenster,

A brief intro. I'm working in the safety industry since 2006 as a safety supervisor to now HSSE Executive with 1 of the biggest logistics mnc co. in the world. N to date i have no regrets working as a safety personnel.

For those wishing to join the league, here are my humble advises:-

1)New Bird

Compare with previous years, u have a bcss u can easily join as a ss. But now, u got to invest some capital into taking up several courses in order to penetrate into the fantastic field. Hereby as follows-

a) BCSS (Building construction supervisor safety course)

b) OPISS (Oil/ Petrochemical Industry Supersivor safety course)

c) LSS (Lifting Supervisor Safety course)

d) Risk Management Course

e) Occupational First Aid course

f) Certificate in WSH (Optional)

g) Advance Certificate in WSH (Highly recommended)

If u can obtain a-e courses, higher chances an employer will rope u in. Pay wise can range fr as low as $1.8k up to $2.8k basic for ss. (criteria may varies).

If u can achieve a-g, expect minimum of $2.5k to $4.5k basic. (criteria may varies)

In order not to spoil the market value for the ss and sc.. I hereby manage to gather some informations on salary range for ss/sc.

Mainland (Singapore)

Basic SS fr $1.6k to $2.5K or more

Basic SC fr $2.5k above

Basic WSHO fr $4.5k and above

Offshore (E.g: Pulau Bukom, Pulau Ular or Jurong Island)

Basic SS - fr $2.2k up to $2.8k or more

Basic SC - fr $2.5k up to $6k

Basic WSHO - fr $5k up to $14k above.

**Note this is to the best of my knowledge as i have ever sat and saw with my own eyes their paychecks..

**This is for motivation purposes. It does not meant to demoralise people from other working industry. If you think investment to such course is not your cup of tea, think again.

Hope this helps. Any question u may pm me. I try my best to answer. Cheers!

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Normally this is what i do if i wish to look for a safety job. Always take note safety can have many titles.. I will make a list and therefore i use any search engine to start looking for it. U may start with:-

1) Safety Supervisor/Coordinator/Officer/Executive/Technician jobs

2) EHS " " (Environment Health & Safety)

3) HSE " " (Health Safety & Environment)

4) WSH " " (Workplace Safety & Health)

5) SHE " " (Safety Health & Environment)

6) HSSE " " (Health Safety Security & Environment)

Alternatively, use Yellow Pages and type Safety consultant. There u will find contacts detail and wala! U can try your luck sending resume to them. I tink there should be over 40+ safety consultants in SG so if you have 40 years to work with each and every consultant.. haha! And that excludes direct hire from co. and other recruitment firms.

Hope my humble guides helps u secure a job. Always bear this in mind maintain the market rate. Do not undercut or offer lower than what is offered on the market. This is to maintain the salary scale. Play smart with the figures. Do not over price!

Cheers!

My friend in PSA who is a Dy Safety Manager has a vacancy for a WSHO. Pay range from $3.5K to $4.5K. Bonus is normally 3 to 6 months.

This job is suitable for younger chaps who want to gain experience or retirees. 5 days work week, office hours. Not so siong, very routine unless got serious accident and you have to do investigation. Other than that, just do 12 inspections per month, attend safety committee meetings, etc.

More info at PSA Corp website.

Yes, I agree... Without the "power" authorised to one, we can "tickle" using a "feather", but cannot "wield our swords" to "kill"...

So what's the point of getting high salary but just sit there like a "tua pek kong"??

Well, if one's conscience doesn't prick that person, then I got nothing to say. :)
