Hi All Bros,

Do you guys think that a management / business degree can complement our career in HSE in spore ? Not keen to go for Mech degree and can't find any other degrees that can suit my needs and requirements.

go for business admin and then go for MBA..this will give u to be a manager..go for certificates for safety..takes tons of safety courses..u will end up a safety manager one day..need not get a safety degree to be a safety manager..the word manager is to manage ppl..not manage safety..moreover, the safety degree is all abt system..u take all these safety courses oso is a management of the system..take something else..then u maybe can climb to a GM one day..who knows?right?

bro, your advice a bit out of this world leh. try to apply for a safety manager role without a safety degree. you must be kidding.

business admin and mba will make you a manager? where the hell you learn that from???

take tons of safety courses... u will end up a safety manager one day?? tons of safety courses might as well go for a safety degree, rite? tons of safety courses may not get you a safety co-ordinator role, dont say safety manager loh.

the word manager does not necessary mean managing ppl only. pls have a opened mind when you define. don't use your own dictionary. safety degree is not all about system dude, you learn about human factor, human behaviour as well and many more.

I prefer to go for a safety degree to further justify my competency... business admin and mba..hmmm... give people alot of doubts...

But CS, I did come across safety manager w/o safety degree... as usual, from time to time when ppl are not happy will always say what the hell does he know about safety... he don't even have a professional certification... That's what make me decide to take up a safety degree one of these day...

Thanks for all the inputs, topics like this definitely have different views, no right or wrong, all are food for thought. My view is that safety managers are experienced wsh practitioners like wsho , auditors and such with preferably the ability to manage resources (human, financial) , no? That's when the business degree comes in handy, in my humble view, it's more suitable than a safety degree as u would already have the technical and safety abilities. Just my 2 cents.

YOu want 2 cents view until how long. I notice you always use "2 cents" view...

Ok, in line with inflation and gigantic pay increment of our elites, I shall use $2 view in future...

He is probably the one and only.

If there's 1 , there's bound to 2 and so on... it's better not to be too narrow minded.

i think you still dont get what i mean? u see in this world, who in mba dont get to be a manager? u will be stuck at a safety manager if u go for safety degree..why not u climb higher?u cant go further than tt..safety manager position is a more dangerous position than tt of a GM do u know? if not why u think they wanna hire a safety manager for? to send u go to jail la..if not why the hell they pay u such a huge amount?one single fatal accident and if u cant cover urself for like 150%, u will need to pay the price..100% is not enough.. safety courses u must go for the right 1 right?no body ask u to anyhow take without seeing..and also yes..i agree with u, safety is not all abt system..but who is at fault?they always say humans..u cant pin point its human at fault totally if theres an accident..if an accident happen, the system sure has something to do with it..u got tons of ppl to handle..how r u going to handle all i ask u? i dun think our views meet eye to eye..i still think an mba has a better prospect than a safety degree..mba i can tell u it can surely give u 98% of the management position..or even a senior management..but not safety degree..u will never reach a senior management with a safety degree..

cmon guys..lets not get all hot under the collar abt this paper chase.ultimately, the higher u go up the academic ladder, u got to have that savviness at the workplace so that ppl will not think of u as just brainy but work smart.

Agreed. Must also have the capacity to hear others opinions, the world don't just work in 1 way. If you are too narrow minded and cannot accept that everyone works and thinks differently, you are doomed.

hope your heart is as broad and opened as your mind to accommodate ppl with a narrow mind.

but cant see that from your latest reply.

you sound wise and humble talking this way, trying to project a mindset that have the capacity to accommodate different views and diverse opinions. but when ppl provide harsh comment and tough advice, you show true self.

trying to ownself pose question and ownself answer, you are one guru not to be taken lightly in this forum. if you are seriously seeking for advise, be humble to stomach even if the reply is sh*t. don't try to act smart by silent declaration that your opinion is best yet staying at the value of 2 cents. and thanks for preaching the ideology of taking "the middle path", it does not help. and it certainly not appreciated for deeming the reply of others as narrow-minded by boasting how well you can and other should accommodate each other's opinion.

open your mind when you pose question or prepare to open your *ss.h
