Well, if the "how much" is what draws you to want to join the safety industry, then I think you better give it a re-consideration.

Safety is not about the "how much", it is about passion.

Not sure how many will agree with me and how many will come here to flame me, but these are just my thoughts.

Bro, i hear ppl say masters in this field like bo hua lay. Abit over qualified for the jobs den might end up affecting the ROI of the degrees. So far degree now most wu hua one but not sure 10 years down the line when every one get the degree, it will saturate anot.

Now hor im taking a degree in Unisim and im at my last sem already. If nothing goes wrong, this year end can graduate.

Abit of background of myself, i used to be a process technician in oil and gas, den jumped to another company that does truck loading. Now doing some environmental stuffs in another company. I have around 2 years of experience.

My question is, how is the career prospect of doing safety in O&G. Im not sure whether to go marine, construction or remain in oil and gas. But in terms of safety, i know alot more in o&g.

Any advice for me regarding the industry that is recommended that i should go ?

hi apricon,

you will feel better and have a totally different perspective in life and career if you do not equate your degree or master degree with earning power.

however, in reality, what you have learned and able to apply could and should make you money.

i know ppl who earned a master in safety and yet can't find a proper safety job.

this got to do with his personality and other soft skill. let's put it simply, he can't event write a proper meeting minutes.

whether or not a master degree worth its price, it's totally depend on how you see it.

Nothing in this world should stop you from learning.

higher education = higher management role?

hope you don't get disappointment one day. that's what our garmen trying to instill in us that the more training you received and higher education will secure your job. these are bullsh*t.

employers everywhere prefer higher education with low pay like the india ft with master degree. as long as our garmen open its door wide to foreigners, we will loose out disregarding our education background.

the higher your education, the more expensive you are to maintain and the chance will go to foreign talent.

therefore the higher your education, you lose your job fast and will probably end up driving taxi.

that's the destiny of singaporeans many many.

Wow, quite sometime not visited this forum. Happy to know quite a few has hopped onto the profession and the thread still very much alive!

I am on a new safety portfolio since 2-3 years back. Now managing safety and health on a regional scale for my company and part of the Board Safety Committee reporting to stakeholders. Been traveling therefore seldom come to this forum. I can say lot's more to learn, lots more obstacles and challenges ahead. And I never regretted my decision of joining the industry.

Will like to motivate all the safety personnel to continue push on in their field, and remember.....be professional!

Same I also into safety portfolio around 1 year ago. Now working with a renowned aviation company.

Regional role maybe 5 years later.

Stay in the middle then?

That is exactly where someone wanted most of his citizens to be at.

The middle level or the "sandwiched" level, where we "eat not full, starve won't die". hahahahaha...

What Mr cstay66 said is true.

We study high high until Masters or higher, which company is willing to employ us? A FT with same qualifications come in, he can and is willing to take the job at half or less than half the pay that we are asking for.

Even if he has no qualifications, go study a Level C and can be a RSO and replace us.

This happens in most industries, not just the safety line. :)
