wow your friend crane operator earn so much.....i heard from my friend just newly registered earning $2.8K as WSHO...even a taxi driver can earn $6K cos very common they earn $200 per day after less cab rental and petrol...u can ask around...

Since it is such a high-paying job, why don't you go get your taxi driver's licence and go be a taxi driver and stop coming here to be so negative?

why botther to take this course? have u heard of WSHO license kena suspended and cant work anymore.

Why I bother? Cos I want to keep on upgrading myself and not like you, who only keeps on coming here whining negatively about safety jobs.

Of cos I know WSHO jobs are highly risked, do not get paid well, etc...

Of cos I have heard of WSHO Licence getting suspended or perhaps revoked.

But like wise, experienced Mr cstay66 said, can you tell us any one job under the sun which does not carry the risk of getting their licences suspended?

Even your so-called taxi driver licence can get suspended.

You may want to justify yourself with reasons on why or what is wrong with my desire on wanting to upgrade myself?

you compare the work load of taxi and WSHO. taxi pay twice more than WSHO. of course driving is risky cos high pay.

Like I mentioned above, since it is such a high-paying job, why don't you go get your taxi driver's licence and go be a taxi driver and stop coming here to be so negative?

I believe all of us here appreciates your kind thoughts of sharing all the negative points of being a WSHO.

You may also say that this is a forum, you can voice out all your want.

You may also say that you are being kind with sharing all the negative points here with all of us, yet all of us are like "aiming" and targetting at you and your kindness is not being appreciated by all of us.

Since you feel that WSHO job has so many negative points and does not pay well, perhaps you should be a good boy, go get your taxi driver's licence and start driving your taxi and earn a > $6,000 per month job.

This forum here is for all WSHOs to share the latest developments, exchange knowledge, and also for newbies like myself to seek advice from more experience WSHOs like the very wise, experienced Mr cstay66.

I think the forum which suits you better would be http://www.singaporetaxidrivers.com.sg.

Go there and show off and boast your > $6,000 per month salary and leave this forum where all of us poorly-paid WSHOs will be licking on our own "wounds".

my dear mr seah,

no need to address me as experienced mr cstay66 lah.

i am just a small sotong.

the longer i worked, the lower my pay and lesser my gut juice.

i can somehow feel my balls shrink each day as i look into my retirement and medical need.

probably goodboy has the same vision as he sees it coming that all local singaporeans, well-trained wsho included, will one day become taxi drivers.

let's continue to worship our garmen as they are gracious enough to keep the taxi driving job to singaporeans only.

can't tell you how much i love them.

Hi, cstay66,

I am not trying to "curry favour" you.

Not sure if you remember.

A few of the safety people from this forum, including sexkid, had a small gathering years ago at the corner prata stall along Bukit Timah Road.

I was one of them, a newbie sitting among the group "absorbing" experiences from you.

Which is why I know you are experienced and not those "play play" type and why I say here that you are experienced.

I would like to ask here.

Is any one of you here holding onto my SOTC notes?

I remember a few pals here PMed me to ask me for my notes previously.

If any one of you here is holding onto my old SOTC notes, do contact me to see how we can arrange for me to collect them back from you.

Thank you.

Non-constructive comments like "Why do you still want to collect back your old old SOTC notes?", etc... are NOT welcome. Thank you.

hi goodboy,

i pity your friend.

hope you are not using his predicament as an example to express your current situation as well.

but if you did, we understand.

your friend is not alone.

many wsho kena bullied by project managers (local or ft) and contractors alike on site.

but that has got nothing to do with his role as wsho.

he is just weak in his personality.

i was liddat before. i cried countless of time as a young rso.

and wanted to just quit and forget about this stupid job as a safety officer.

i didn't.

the antidote: i choose to speak up.

and that is what safety is all about, standing up for what you believe and speaking up.

let me tell you a friend of mine who is WSHO and kena bully by his FT project mgr and every morning always shouting loudly at him asking why toilet so smelly and dont give worker so my friend lan lan DIY. i advise my friend to leave his job cos FT PM are bully cheekee...have anyone of you bad encounter with FT Project mgr? nowsday many FT project mgr. u hardly find anymore local prog mgr who are more caring...

Hi, all,

I just went to Singapore Polytechnic this morning to finalise my registration and make payment for my WSQ Graduate Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health (Level D) Course (Intake 27: for Non-SDWSH Graduates).

Just wondering if any one of you has registered and will be attending this same course which will be starting on 23-Oct-2013.

All negative, pessimitic, non-constructive comments are not welcome.

If any one who have taken this course would like to share their experiences for this course, I thank you in advance here.

BTW, I received advice that after we completed this WSQ Graduate Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health (Level D) Course, we can go apply for the CET Qualification Award from WDA.

CET Qualification Award

Would like to ask if this is true?

Cheers.

Hi, Light_Emotion,

When you were taking this Level D course, is it all assignment based for each of the modules?

I did ask around a little bit and heard that there will be a close-book test each for two of the modules.

But then, the advice given to me is that this Level D course is not so difficult. If I can complete my old SOTC course, this Level D course should not be a problem.

I am in the chemical industry. As per during my SOTC course, I was worried & struggled with and now am kind of worried about modules which will touch on the construction and shipyard industries, etc, which I know nuts about these two industries.

But still, I will march on and complete this course.

hi there , just to share with you. I have applied for this award twice , once for my level A and another for level C. Total of $1200 :cheeky:

Quote from WDA website : "Singaporeans who successfully complete and are awarded a subsidised part-time Diploma at the Polytechnics or a WSQ Diploma/Specialist Diploma are eligible for a CET Qualification Award (CQA) of $1,000.

Singaporeans who successfully complete and are awarded a WSQ Certificate/Higher Certificate/Advanced Certificate or a part-time NITEC/Higher NITEC are also be eligible for a CET Qualification Award (CQA) of $200."

As for Graduate Certificate (Level D) , you might want to call up WDA to enquire because mostly will claim this when they have attended level A.

Hi Seah, I am from 25th intake (Level C Grad) . Besides the closed book tests that you mentioned , I think most of the course structure remains the same . However, not to worry about the construction or shipyard industries . For the core modules , all the assignments will be based on your choice of industry with the aid from guidance notes. You will be required to find a site/ factory so that you can perform a role-play as an auditor. And this particular module "Control industrial hygiene risks", there will be 4 assignments not 1!! They are namely Ergonomics, Indoor Air Quality , Noise , Air contaminants. . Good luck to you. :)

Thank you, Mr takumi78, for sharing.

Did you take your Level D from SP too?

hahaha... I applied for and got accepted into this Level D course via an "unorthodox" route -> via the "for Non-SDWSH Graduates" route, cos I am having the old SOTC certificate.

Thus, I would not have claimed anything for Level A or B or C, cos I did not take the Level A, B or C. hahaha.

Anyway, I will just try my luck for the claim after I pass my Level D.

Right now, I am only focusing on passing this Level D course. I shall not count my chickens before they are hatch. :)

Thanks for sharing. :)

They are namely Ergonomics, Indoor Air Quality , Noise , Air contaminants. . Good luck to you. :)

Wah, the assignments and closed book tests sounds scary and daunting.

But nonetheless, I will just bit the bullet and do my best and move through the course and pass it.

May I ask for your advice on the assignments and test, etc... if I meet with any "road-blocks" during doing the assignments and tips for the tests? heehee... :)

Though I have another helpful gentleman from this thread here to seek help from, I think more help from another person will really be very helpful for me to clear this course. :)

Bro, not sure if I can help you that much. I was told during the course that there will be changes to the course for the next intake onwards. Maybe after u start ur class, if u have any questions then ask. No point asking and speculating things now. For SP assignments, it is guided along the way. For my class, many are clueless what to write for assignments but manage to complete with the aid of guidelines. My advice for u is to hand in your assignments on time otherwise you will be very stressed at the end of course juz to submit 9 or more assignments at one go.

Hi, takumi78,

Thanks so much for your kind advice.

Yes, accumulating and submitting 9 or more assignments at the end of the course will be killing.

Will definitely heed your advice to try my best to submit assignments on time.

Thank you so much. :)

No problem, another advice is try not to skip lesson even though attendance requirement is 75%.

Bcos there will be quizzes conducted randomly and some are not conducted at the last lesson.

If you miss the tests , you will need to make arrangements with trainers or take the tests with the next intake.

Let me know your list of trainers and I may be able to help you with their expectations and type of quizzes. Hopefully I can remember all. :)

Hi, takumi78,

I do not have the intentions to miss any class unless I am really very, very sick.

But then...

I will definitely have to miss one of the Friday classes, as I have a colleague's wedding dinner to attend.

Wah, there are random tests.

Will the marks of the test be taken into the calculation of the final marks of the module?

Random tests -> meaning we will have to be revising very dilligently after each lesson and constantly, in order to be prepared for the random tests. :(

Firstly sorry to others for talking up this forum to discuss this Level D. But this will be helpful to fella WSHO who wants to take up the level D from SP.

Tests depends on trainer, some are pop quiz while some are guided, some given examples to follow for calculations questions.Basically bro , everyone is working and have to attend this eve course, mostly will be too tired for revision.

Bro , u worry too much liao lah. Dun u know SP also stands for "sure pass" ? :) When I attended, never thought of all these one. Juz remember, you are not alone there. Make some friends in the class for discussion. This is wsq framework, only competent and not yet competent. There is no pass or fail. Tests are just documentary evidence of your competency, hence there's no marks or grade involve.

If you know u need to miss the lesson, check with trainer if there is test on that day so that can arrange for other alternatives.

Yes, firstly, sorry to the rest of the people here for my Q&A session on this Level D course.

Secondly, sincerest thanks to Bro takumi78 for all your advice.

hahaha... I really did not know that SP stands for that. hahaha. And yes, I have made a friend for this Level D course. I talked to this gentleman (a RSO) from the construction industry when we met during our registration day on 24-Sept. While checking the dates of our SOTC certs, we realised that we were from the same batch of the SOTC course way back in June 2007. hahaha....

Ok, thanks, Bro takumi78, I will sure check with the trainer about the test thing on the day which I need to miss class.

Thanks so much. :)

it easy to say standup for wat u believe and speak up....do u know it impossible to do safety on site without any worker helping u safety...my friend speak up asking for worker to clean toilet but PM say progress more important..so u DIY...if u are in my friend shoe how u overcome these issue....every morning yr PM shout at u why toilet so smelly then u speak up no worker dont bother???

hi goodboy,

i pity your friend.

hope you are not using his predicament as an example to express your current situation as well.

but if you did, we understand.

your friend is not alone.

many wsho kena bullied by project managers (local or ft) and contractors alike on site.

but that has got nothing to do with his role as wsho.

he is just weak in his personality.

i was liddat before. i cried countless of time as a young rso.

and wanted to just quit and forget about this stupid job as a safety officer.

i didn't.

the antidote: i choose to speak up.

and that is what safety is all about, standing up for what you believe and speaking up.

look like your friend prefer to clean toilet. :)

say this when the next time your pm ask you to clean toilet:

wsho: pm, you need to employ a worker to clean toilet.

pm: f**k off. no budget. no worker. you clean the sh*t yourself.

wsho: f**k you off. you d**ty *******. you have no eye to see that you need a worker to clean the toilet? (raise your decibel to 100dba)

put a bucket and a brush on his table. put it hard.

he will sure throw the bucket on you. and you just have to throw it back. and say...

wsho: f**k you pm, it's your job. if you are not capable of doing it. don't make others it. go eat your ****.

repeat the above 2 times a day. if you are asked to leave, see the project director. if the project director also ask you to leave.

go find better job.
