Safety officer

Recommended Posts

that was my salary when i was a newly registered safety officer in 1996. after 17 years, if such is the starting pay of a newly registered safety officer, i think our garmen screw up big time.

if you factor inflation, newly registered safety officer, who normally comes with at least 2 years of working experience, 3k is very minimal. or should i say in today's cost of living, just to get by.

wat can i say? our leaders suck? we picked them.

$3000 per month for WSH officer

hi light emotion,

you should have a safety budget for your safety programme by year or by project.

This should enable you to run the safety programme or promotion with ease.

The budget should also include your safety team/dept's salary, bonus, employer's cpf contribution, allowance etc. though this amount is also budgeted by HR/payroll. it should reflect in your safety budget as well. this will enable to organisation to understand what is the overall costs for safety.

if you do not have a budget to rely on, list all the information and activities of the safety campaign and indicate the cost for each activity. be as detailed as possible. talk to your immediate superior (don't just email), allow for discussion and changes, make adjustment, seek approval to spend the money.

Hi, anyone did any safety campaign, safety promotion and etc? How do you present it to the management. I was tasked to do it, I learned in level C but the actual implementation I do not know how to do it. Can I send in safety proposal first and seek management consideration? Any old birds can guide me along? Or send me their safety proposal for my reference? Pm me is ok, thanks in advance.

no i actually thought his demands are not very high, considering that he is complaining abt safety officers getting low pay. he keeps complaining that salary very low, but when ask him, he thinks the salary should be only 3k. that figure is not hard to hit, so why is it a problem to him?

anyway i'm not clear as to which context he was replying to. i cant be sure if he means 3k as the maximum or minimum that SOs should get.

it's good if we can read minds. but given the fact that we change our mind faster than we change underwear, it better not trying so hard.

we did not really know who goodboy is and what is his background and experience.

let's take it that he could have gone thru tough times in life and thus sharping the current mindset and outlook.

we could only wish him the best.

Anyway, I read about an article in the Straits Times about the industry is looking at employing more local to work as crane operators and experienced ones can earn up to SGD 6K.

With due respect, maybe Mr goodboy88 can go apply to attend the course and be a crane operator and start earning big bucks as one, since he keeps commenting that RSOs earn peanuts.

6k as a crane operator is modest. On average my friends are doing 8-10k a month. Im starting that path soon.

Yea sure one might argue that the job entails long hours at one go but hey, at least you know when the pay kicks in, it was all worth it.

Indeed. I am actually quite confused with his words, as I have gotten the impression from his complaints that RSOs are paid too little. If he really thinks that RSOs should get 3k, it means that current RSO salary in his mind is less than 3k.

Which if, that is true, then I dunno where he got his figures from. And no wonder why he keeps slamming the profession being "paid peanuts but super huge responsibility.. must answer for this and that" etc..

Hi guys, I've just found this forum...

A bit about myself:

I completed the old SOTC in 2008, before they converted to the WSQ thingy..gosh...I paid $3600 for the course fees..now with the subsidy, they are paying something like $300...sigh...but then, I heard the SOTC grads are more appreciated.

Have been in the construction field since 2009 with a local main con. When I tried entering this industry, I throw my application to the manufacturing industry, later the marine/offshore industry and then pre-cast and HDB-upgrading field, with expected salary as low as $2.6k. None gave me a chance. Later an agency linked me up with my current employer.

In my humble opinion, I think the manufacturing industry command the lowest pay... I had friends who work for Spore Technologies for only a couple of months before leaving, citing low pay and loads of work.

In my current industry, I think $4k for a fresh grad is definitely no problem. Afterall, there are loads of work to be done and seriously, I would have left if the pay don't make up for the frustrations and nonsenses I get in the course of duty. You could have an easier life if your employer is a big foreign company who very much support Safety, and has no qualms about punishing the sub cons. my company, though my boss supports my work, however, punishing the sub cons is rather hard as he is in a difficult position which I shall not elaborate. Hence, I've learn to use a softer approach when dealing with these people. Being the main con doesn't always mean you can talk loud and be unreasonable, especially when dealing with the China men. However, most of the time, if you talk nicely and mingle a bit with them, they will respect you and do what you wants them to do. If you shout and threaten them, it will hardly works. Eventually they will whack your boss instead and your boss will turn against you too. Sigh. That's why I say it's frustrating.

I work 10 to 12 hours daily, mon to sat. sometimes I leave work at 5+.Frankly, if you're going to pay me $3k for this, I might as well go be some technicians or service engineer and with OT, I can earn the same amount at the same working hours. But without the responsibilities and stress.

Hi All,

Do anyone happen to have a rough sample as to how a Traffic Management Plan should be like? I'm in the midst of doing one and not sure if it's comprehensive enough. Currently just using LTA's CP of Traffic Control at Work Zone. Thanks in advance and have a great weekend all!

Cheers!

Just like to ask if anyone will be attending the Risk Management Course + Test (for those with the "old-time" SOTC Certificate), which will be conducted at Ngee Ann Polytechnic on 13 - 14 Aug (test on 19 Aug) next week.

I am attending this run of this course at Ngee Ann Polytechnic next week.

See you there if you happened to be attending too. :)

Just for everybody's information.

Esp to those with the 'old-time' SOTC Certificates, who are required to take the mandatory Risk Management Course + Risk Management Test which is only conducted by Ngee Ann Polytechnic now, the lecturer informed the class today that after this run, they will only conduct one last run of this RM + RMT course in Oct this year.

Afterwhich, they will cease conducting this course.

So, for those with the SOTC Certificate who needs to take this course, do sign up for the Oct 2013 run of the last course.

Not a very easy course. A lot of descriptions to memorise for Section A (18 structured questions; 60 marks) and in Section B (40 marks), choose 2 out of the 8 given scenarios to write up the full RA.

Passing mark is 75 out of 100. wahahaha...

Just to share with everybody. Please do not flame me. :)

Cheers.
