Stock is good...Choose your weapon wisely and enjoy it...you can have all the $$$$ to mod and in the end you can't make full use of it....

If I change swingarm, will it be legal?

In short, no, if you are thinking about installing extended or one-sided swingarm, or something radically different.

However if the "new" swingarm looks similar to the original item, or you are simply replacing with another OEM item, no one will know.

anything not OEM, can be considered illegal. especially if it's not designed in mind for the bike.

i think i've shared my views on the legailty on another thread..

anyway single sided swing arm especially for the nsr150 is very heavy.. i've held it before i think 13kg... like need to hold by two hands.. hehe

but the handling of the 150 is quite stable on the rear to.

the good thing is easy to change sprocket when u want to test/set the sizes..

easy to tighten chain and easy to change tyre..

meanwhile this aluminium swing arm from r125 is very light.. cause its alloy.. hehe

the thing is it's mounted using linkage.. so need to mod a bit more for non linkage bikes

13kg damn heavy leh, like that stock one lighter i think, too bad I lost the TZM manual, got state everything. Racing boy also got alloy swing arm for Spark, the stock swing arm looks very similar to mine. Tempting.

They sell spare r125 swingarms? Enlighten me on this linkage and non linkage thing

linkage or no linkage is where the rear suspesion mounts ah..

the above example is honda's prolink, where the rear suspension never mount anywhere at the frame,

but at the swingarm and the link the from link to frame.

other linkage system is suspension mount from frame(Chassis) to a link, then from link to swingarm.

i dun really know what the benefit.. haha i not engineer mah..

All I see is less stress on the joints, can put in longer springs in the same sized frame thus better shock absorbtion...other than that, nothing much ah.

i have no idea.. is it legal or no.. but if i still got my sp, i would most probably go ahead and do it..

and use rear rim from nsr125.. or rim from honda racing

forgot the price.. i think around 200 plus minus..

This is a better image of the swingarm.. hehe just look like r6's

Take note that if the shock mounting points are different, or the donor swingarm length is different, will drastically alter the handling characteristics of the bike. Most of the time for the worse.

Also seriously consider alignment issues between the front and rear sprocket.

Blindly going into a major chassis modification without fully understanding all implications is a disaster waiting to happen.

any further tips to share?

like any general rules or what?

so what are all the implications?

mech's say gonna do trial and error.. hahah.

(he's already done it to his bike... but is a different bike and different swinger, mind you)

Hear illegal ah, no want ah, pipe illegal already, see TP ride slow slow, off throttle. No TP, 125cc GP sound already.

Every bike is engineered with many factors in mind, even small changes to the rebound rate & compression rate of the rear shocks will affect the Bike's handing.

Unless the swing arm is engineered (R&D), changing the swing arm will have undesired issues with handling.

(+) Under an "Accident Survey", the couple of things that the survey will look out for is the Tire and bike specification. Is there any structure being illigally modifed that is not LTA compliance.

This will affect the following:

Claim on Bike Insurance.

Personal Insurance claim.

Financial installment.

Although there goes a saying "Do what you want, don't get caught".

I would like to add a additional phase... Do what you want... But be prepared to pay the consequences.

Just my 2cents...

haiyah illegal pipe doesn't necesarily need to be loud mah.. heheh

go change fiber regularly lah

Its not loud idling or when below power band, just high pitch, sounds like an RXZ only higher, chamber pipe. But lucky ah, yesterday TP right bypass me at traffic light, thought I'm a goner but he going back base, go top up then ciao.

of course some modifications are made to change the characteristics of the bike.. that's the point.

engineers work within certain budgets, legality and other factors like wear and tear rate for road usage, ect..

they don't necessarily make the best bike that they can..

and they do trial and error too? (testing in developing the bikes)

so mechanics with some engineering knowledge can do their part too in their research n trial and error..

dunno about the "accident survey" part, as i've managed to claim insurance on a "non standard" bike.

A Penny for your thoughts...

As high lighted in RED above,

Question to think over...

Trial & Error.... by a Mechanic... =

You pay for the "Mod" = You "Trial" & it's you! who "feel" the Error!

Some engineering knowledge

Please advise me ~

How many Mechanics has engineering background (With Cert)?

How many are trained over seas by a major Motorcycle Brand?

Yes, I know a few myself... but only a few...

I do not wish to exchange words on this thread but be careful when you mingle with one's bike... , please do it wisely...

And don't try to push one's luck too far...

Because... the one paying for it... it's the Rider.... Rider = YOU!

(+)The Issuance part.... it greatly depends on the scale of the claim... When the surveyor is from the other party... Good Luck!
