Introduction

(Hi, my name is…)

--------------------

Thank you so much for being part of SBF, and part of the I.T.inerary forum.

This sub-forum was indeed created by bikers, for bikers like us.

Although not telling you that the statement above was a cheesy paraphrase from a petrol station advert, as far as I can tell however, most of us enjoy our stay here in SBF.

I.T.inerary was created to cater to bikers that needed to ask tech questions. And to receive answers from tech-savvy people who happen to be bikers too. Nothing much, just good Yin-Yang harmony. It also caused good ch'i, causing computers around Singapore to be healthy, satisfied folks after an SBF surfing session, and Yoshi pipes to sing aloud the next morning.

Here's the thing, we like our bikes as much as surf SBF, Internet, and our trusty GPS to direct ourselves home whenever we are in a place called holland(ed).

I will create this newsletter on a weekly basis on a Thursday, so long as my superiors allow it (i hope they do!) and when I get bored of riding my bike.

IT issues

--------------------

In this after-National-Day week, people have been posting these threads in ITinerary:

@lunloon has a hard drive issue. It's making a clicking sound and it's refusing to let him go in and access files. The clicking sound per-se is a potential bad sign (touch wood), but can you turn things around and help/suggest how to retrieve the files inside it? [reply!]

@dany has a Compaq desktop PC that is powered by an Intel Pentium D processor, 2 gigs of RAM, and runs Windows XP. He says new games are either lagging or a no-go on his computer, and that his computer is getting sluggish. He wants to DIY upgrade his computer, aspiring for something faster and newer whilst making it easy on his wallet. Do you have the professional expertise to fulfill his aspirations? [reply!]

COMEX Tech Fair 2011

--------------------

For those of you who brave the crowds to park, hustle with cub-kias, and then hustle and rub past guys and pretty gals to get in line for best Tech deals, here are the details:

1st – 4th September 2011 at Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre (Suntec City),

Levels 1, 2 ,3, 4 & 6

and from 12pm to 9pm

The IT Proficiency Exam

--------------------

I know everybody's been waiting for this one.

The IT Proficiency Exam was thought up by me because I felt the need to have proficient experts that can assist me in the forums. Added to that will be some sort of a recognition. SBF members with computer issues can better turn to these recognized members that have proven their I.T. proficiency.

The reason why it was taking so long is because it's not easy: after-work time to think up questions and even setting up an online quiz service. But I plan to do this real quick, aiming for a before-Christmas release or even earlier.

Well, how I came to where I am was pretty much dated back to my adolescent days.

I ba$ic@lly sp0ke a lot of l33t l@ngu@ge that made the users very angry at me. I got way too obsessed with technology that I was branded a geek many times. These were 2 issues that really annoyed me.

So what I did was:

1. Really learn about technology out there.

2. Find out ways to make it very useful to my everyday life.

In l33t speek, it actually means "making the most out of your equipment while reducing overhead & reducing TCO, blah blah...". But I digress.

3. Help others appreciate technology by applying Points 1 and 2 above (this reduces many instances where computers become HDB killer litter)

and...

4. ...doing all of the above in the most simplest way.

5. Last but not least, I took biking lessons because me wanted to score some ch1cks. Yeah, i'm shameless sometimes :)

So yeah, that's not really a driving factor behind why I'm doing what I like to do here. It somehow became natural that I was like that.

Thanks.

This point deserves special attention and is more interesting than educating the masses.. :)
