I'm considering to switch to riding cruisers but considering between Phantom TA200, daelim magma and daelim daystar. I personally feel that phantom is too common.

Comparing fuel consumption and performance, which is better? And any specific riding or servicing problems with any of the above cuisers?

Please advise, thanks bros. :)

I bet to different though. Personal favorite is Daelim Daystar and they have the 150cc version now but I would recommend getting a used one from online seller rather than shop due to high price. Had own and rode one to as far as Bangkok and fuel consumption was top notch, parts and accessories is expensive though as compare to Phantom (Korea vs. Thailand). Overall, I would comment that Phantom is a better bike for its performance, cheaper parts and accessories, common model (yep, there is even a club form by phantom knights) and best of all, better resale value.

Yeah, read a lot about honda phantom and its benefits. So is there any points that daelim would have advantage over phantom?

I wouldn't mind paying more for quality parts but im looking more at a maintenence/hassle free ride.

CKA sell high priced pre-owned daelim bikes?

well.. according to cka after they take back e bike they will give it a full 'clean up', meaning changing all e necessary parts.. last time i checked they sell all their used bikes same price, regardless of mileage or yr reg..

if u wan purely performance, i guess phantom's e way to go.. but if u need smth more, like looks n style.. n SIZE.. dealim's e way to go man.. daystar's quite easily e biggest 2b bike, maybe only e hyosung aquila can fight.. handling i cant say for phantom coz i nv had 1.. but my magma served me well.. ha.. basically not much maintenance la.. daelim parts r still quite hardy.. no doubt pricey as well.. haha.. i'd recommend u to go for daystar too, n its v gd training if u intend to ug to 2a cruisers.. haha..

Ah, i see...

Still quite stucked between which cruiser to try for a beginner class 2b. Quite afraid that the bike will be too big for me to handle as i'm considered small or average sized singapore. Currently riding my uncle's wave but will need to buy a bike soon because he wants his bike back soon.

hmm.. dun think it'll be too big ba.. its big no doubt, but its relatively low too.. of coz u can slowly 'ug' in terms of e bike weight.. but who wants to change between 2b bikes? ha.. may take a few days to get used at first la.. but nuthin u cant get used to.. like wad my father says, no matter how heavy e bike may seem, once its moving its not heavy anymore.. haha.. handling wise will be 100% different from wave u'll find.. n hopefully u'll like it too..

The phantom is a fav for locals is not without reasons, and its definitely a good starter bike to work with for class 2B, i would seriously recommend Phantom.

Let me give you 1 plus point for buying a phantom, if u are riding a phantom and if any day your phantom broke down on the road, you push it to the nearest motortiam in the vicinity and chances are, they have the spare part and skill to fix the bike for you.......which i cannot comment for the other 2 bikes...... :thumb:

Go for the Daystar. It looks and feel better than the Phantom. I've tried my friend's Phantom before and I dunno why but it rides like an RXK. Daystar more style. Actually I prefer Magma (Used to ride one) cos I feel Daystar's tank abit short. Magma like longer and wider. But Daystar's mileage is amazing. I think my friend's hit close to 400km on one full tank sans reserve. But then also Daelim bikes, you're gonna get into a lot of beep getting parts or servicing. Not many parts will fit Daelim bikes and parts from the distributor doesn't come in cheap. Phantom no need worry, anywhere anyhow can repair. So it all comes down to style and feel. Anyway Phantom can MOD like Madman's :p Aiya, best is you go and try both before you make a decision. Don't worry about not being able to handle it. I'm 1.65m and I ride a Shadow 400 :D Just takes getting used to it.

Maybe you could take a look at the rough guide below:

Brand/Model: Daelim Daystar // Honda Phantom

Country Make: Korea // Thailand

Engine Capacity: 125cc & 150cc // 150cc (2-stroke) & 200cc

Fuel Tank Capacity: 17.3 L // 11.2 L

Tire Size: 90-18F & 130-15R // 90-17F & 130-15R

Dry Weight: 160 Kg // 140 Kg

Transmission: 5 Speed // 6 Speed

Dimension: 790 x 2,240 x 1,150 mm // 775 x 2,256 x 1,085 mm

Seat Height: 700 mm // 699 mm

Brakes: Front Disc, Rear Drum // Front Disc, Rear Disc

Accessories: Available // Not avaiable

You may be wondering about the accessories. At the local agent Choong Kok, original accessories is available for Daelim Daystar which is approved by the local authority LTA whereas, there are no original accessories that are available at the agent Boon Siew. Having said that, I have to point out that 3rd party accessory is widely available for Honda Phantom as it is a popular model thus; shops could be seen carrying parts and accessories from as far as Thailand, in fact, cheaper too. Customizing for Daystar is pretty limited due to its lack of customizing parts in the market, you may however try to modify the accessories or parts that would fit on but, I won’t recommend you to do so.

Eventually, if you are going to keep the bike short before you upgrade, it is better to stick with one that has a better resale value. Otherwise, do make a decision in getting one that is best suit your taste and economical value in fuel consumption and maintenance.

Thanks everyone for your advises

I'm not so worried about how far i am able to customize these beautiful cruisers because i have plans of taking class 2A and upgrading to higher cc bikes after my P plate year. (Probably selling the bike in the next 2 yrs)

So i guess i'll be going after a 2nd hand bike. Since CKA replace all the nessersary components and put the same price tags on all their 2nd hand bikes, is it more reliable or safe to buy from them? And also, which bike have a better resale value?

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/4858/parkingpeeveser6.jpg

hmm.. if ur thinking of changing bikes in e short while, i would advise agst getting 2nd hand bikes from cka.. believe most folks here will say the same.. reason is simple, u'll lose out alot on resale.. they price their bikes relatively high, and they do not buy back, only accept trade in.. so if u'r gg to ug to a 2a bike, u'd most prob haf to sell to a private buyer or push to shop, but the resale value is realli not there la.. if u buy from private seller is another story..

for me? i bought my magma at 800 n sold it off at 600.. haha.. tho i spent around 800 in all changing alot of worn out n spoilt parts.. haiz.. well, if u look at the machine price yea i din lose out much.. haha

Good day to all ya fella cruisers!

Did you guys know about the Yamaha dragstar XVS125? This is 125cc Dragstar!

If thats available, I highly recommend this for 2B cruisers. Last I heard, there were four that were imported around 2000. I had the pleasure of owning 1. But I have upgraded to 400cc Classic last year.

BTW, this model is still in production and being sold in mainly in Japan and UK. Maybe SG cruiser market too small .

Cheers and toast to our new cruiser! :thumb:

1st bike - Kawasaki chopper.

2nd bike - 1 of the very few 125cc Dragstar... this bike went up Genting!

Current - 400cc Dragstar..

Next -.... 1100cc Dragstar......?

1st car - Starlet, 2nd car - Volksy Caddy, Current - Dat Terios

Next car will be another Volksy!

Nice hearing from you lang! Certainly, it is very rare to spot a 125 Yamaha Dragstar on the road as like a 125 Honda Shadow. In anyway, it is still advisable to get a bike which is supported by agent on its parts or preferable widely support or serviceable by most motorbike service shops unless, one plan to keep the bike on a long term plan.

Cruising speed varies depending on the configuration setup due to the small cylinder capacity of these models. A stock condition for a 125cc Daelim Daystar could only top out at 120kph while a 200cc Honda Phantom could run between 140kph to 150kph with its 150cc version performing better due to its 2-stroke engine. However, do take note that the speedometer for both the models is not accurate.

I had a chance to ride my Daystar with a Yamaha Fazer 600 along side on KL city highway running at 115kph full throttle with a full touring configuration* and it was noticeable to be showing only 90+kph on the Fazer 600 according to the rider.

I also had a chance to ride my Shadow Ace 400 along with a Phantom 200 w/saddlebag along side on the NSHW. Rider was doing a full throttle on the Phantom believe to have top out at 150kph based on his speedometer readings while it was showing merely 120kph on my speedometer.

Information above was taken at the discretion between me and the rider, no third party was involve in the witnessing during the actual event thus, I hope anyone who is reading this posting do take the information as a rough estimation as readings may varies accord to different bike.

thus cOst abit mOre..

hving say tat..cka has veri good after sales service..wont show bad attitude @ all..

take note tat e performance of daystar is nOt on par wif phantom..

in terms of pickup n top speed..cOz 125cc nia..

Any more advise of getting a 2nd hand from CKA? :)

As mentioned, it is best to get a used Daystar from private owner rather than Choong Kok unless you intend to keep the bike for long term of period. Otherwise, stick to something else like e.g. Honda Rebel 125, Suzuki Marauder 125, Honda CG 125, Daelim Magma/Daystar 125 and Suzuki GH125 etc. Notice the facts that I did not mention Honda Phantom is partly because it is difficult or impossible to purchase it at a real dirt-cheap price as compare to the above mentioned. If you are just looking for a temporary transport, the Phantom isn’t worth the mentioning, as it would cost much more to acquire even from private owner, which explain why it has a better resale value. Market supply and demand, you go figure it out.

Tackling on repairing issue, it is not difficult for any motorcycle service shop to repair any of the models mentioned above. At a matter of the facts, parts could be the only issues that hold back the repair but that would be quite a repair status if parts are needed to obtain from the agent since most of the parts are common e.g. spark plugs, oil filter and clutch plates etc. Otherwise, parts for Daelim bike are also available at some of the local motorcycle service shops since there are fair amounts of Daelim bike on the road and it is not difficult to spot them.

Hey bro, lets put it these way, if your idea is to upgrade when you get class 2A, just get a phantom, why? Well one thing for sure is phantom have better resale value as it appeals to the general masses out there who wants to get a 2B cruiser bike like yourself now.

For a new rider, usually they rather not take chances and stick to a generally well-known bike, and phantom is the one, imagine you buy a second hand TA200 (phantom) @ $2500.00 use it for 1 year and you still can sell it at $2300.00 or even $2500.00 when you want to upgrade to 2A, this is the kind of resale value we are talking about here, so make your choice hehee......

There are too many factors for you to consider, if cost-saving factor is right there at the top of the list, Phantom is the way to go hehee....Oh btw i'm from Phantom Knights, use to be a phantom rider, so maybe u may think i'm biased hehee...but i'm not, those are straight facts hehee... :thumb:
