i just got myself this astars jacket from ahboy.

i got the right size(size S for me) but the bloody shoulder armour won't stop slipping out of place.

looking at other armour brands like Forcefield, Astars foam armour(esp the elbow) seems to be pretty crap.

so i'd like to ask the more regular bike armour users if there is a solution to my shoulder armour?

stuff more bigger armour?

stitch down the "pouches" inside so they dun slip around?(i'll need a tailor for that?)

Also, should such jacket be drywash or just regular lundry?c i get mixed response from the internet(and none from Astar o_O)

im new to this bike armour thing so pls share, feel free to PM if anything

Thanks Friends! :p

drywash your jacket. regular washing will damage the mesh and make it stink.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

Hi,

Damage and stink sounds terrible!

But the label says no dry cleaning.

Should i risk it?

I'm confused!

I got it for $269

Sounds like a good price, promo or bargain or original price?

Any pic for the jacket?

if the label says no drycleaning, then better not risk it.

i have the same jacket as you, have not washed it once since using it for close to a year. no strong smell but if you put your nose very close, can smell exhaust.

maybe steam cleaning can be done?

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

You can get the pic at Alpinestars Webbie.

Apparently it's a promo at Ah Boy.

I don't like their sales speech but no choice, they are the only Alphinestars Dealers.

Maybe i'll try steam cleaning.

CNY is the time to clean it hommes, "spring cleaning" time :)

I'll bring it to the cleaners and pay them to wash it for me.

Btw, does your armour slide around?

Mine's kinda loose(esp the shoulder) despite a size S.

Pls do share.

I just use normal hand wash for all my textile/mesh jacket. But I will just soak it in a pail of detergent water then wait for at least 30mins. Then i just hang it and use plain water to spray off the detergent. I use abit of scrub to remove those pesky insect roadkill.

Some jacket do have adjustable strap to make sure the armour pad stay in place cause not all body is alike. Since you already bought the jacket, it either you make do with it or your idea of stuffing some stuff inside the armour might work.

my shoulder is fine, but my elbow one is abit loose.

The shoulder pads shouldn't be able to move around. Did you place the padding correctly in the slot? There's a velcro and a pocket where u place the pads in. My TRC1 shoulder pads are fine.... Only the elbow padding seems to be bit too low and I really dont think my arms are short.

And as for cleaning..... hahaha... I also didnt wash this for a long time. Usually I will 'air' it at my balcony and hang it out if there's no sun. I alternate with my Komine mesh.

nt sure about the quality of Alpinestar jackets (i assume they r of good quality?) but my cheapo mesh jacket i got from Regina for $60 have been serving well for more than a year, washing it almost at least once a mth.

hw do i wash? remove the paddings, throw it in those laundry net bags (daiso $2) n throw it into the washing machine n wash as usual wif detergent. no problems so far.

Hi,

thanks for your input friend!

I have sent my jacket to the cleaners, but its just for normal wash, not dry clean.

I intend to stuff it with those from Forcefield. the shoulder pads are considerablely larger than A-stars one.

Hi friend,

i dont think its ur arms problem at all.

I think its just the poor design of a-stars armour.

Notice the slit for bending is somewhere down the centre lengthwise?

if u check out the other armour like Forcefield, the slit is somewhere towards the top lengthwise.

I'll let u know if washing it ruins the jacket when i get mine back! haha

Thanks for the input friend.

A small part of me wish i bought a cheapo jacket when Astar gives me so much headache.

This is a bit off topic, but personally I would recommend Komine. I'm on my 2nd jacket now, and no complaints whatsoever. Half the price of your A* too... just something to consider next time you're considering changing yours :)

In a way I agree too. I have a komine which I wear on a daily basis as its lighter and more fitting. I'll only wear my Astar perhaps durin touring as it also comes with front paddin which my komine doesn't. Also my Astar comes with inner liner which might be good for cold places up north.

I bought mine at regina too. But doubt that it's an ori. But nvrtheless, it has served me well. N I always remove all armours n paddings before just rinsing it with water n hang it dry. Seems normal to me till now.

Im curious, why do u think its not original? Any reason to doubt? Making me paranoid here!
