It's called lightscribe. You have to buy lightscribe media to be able to do that.. and it costs more. Personally I would buy either BenQ or LG.

Just call me Eno.

LG is okay, if you were to ask me generally. Been using LG drives at work and at home.

Samsung, haven't tried yet.

I've also noticed that some DVD burners do not support burning Dual-Layer DVD-R. So double check before you buy.

(Some drives do come with easter eggs. For instance, I bought a LiteOn DVD burner around the same price as what you've listed here. It came with "Region Free" DVD Movie -- pretty useful if I want to watch any movie and not worry about any region code restrictions)

This region-free feature is an "extra" feature. Whether you want a DVD burner with region-free capabilities or not, it's your choice.

It will not affect DVD movies or DVD burning.

  1. DVD-R: Digital Video Disc, Write once.
  2. DVD+R: Digital Video Disc, Write once.
  3. DVD+/-R:
(if a burner lists this on its drive, it can either support DVD-plus-R or DVD-minus-R technologies. See #1 and #2)
    ---
  4. DVD-RW: Digital Video Disc, Rewriteable.
  5. DVD+RW: Digital Video Disc, Rewriteable.
  6. DVD+/-RW:
(if a burner lists this on its drive, it can either support either DVD-plus-RW or DVD-minus-RW technologies. See #4 and #5)
    ---
  7. DVD 5: Slang for DVD Single sided burning, single layered. What we commonly see today. Comes in #1, #2, #4 or #5
  8. DVD 9: Slang for DVD Single sided burning, dual-layered. Comes in #1, #2, #4 or #5. Costs twice than DVD 5
  9. Single layer (refer to "DVD 5")
  10. Dual layer (refer to "DVD 9")

Not sure whether there are rules in this forum regarding external linkage but here are my suggestions for more reads on DVD technology.

- Wikipedia: DVD

- VideoHelp: What is DVD (good DVD enthusiasts website)

Remember, when you go to the store, the common questions that you'll be asking yourself is: Do I want a + or a - disc? Rewriteable or writeable? Can my drive support it?
