wireless problem

Honestly speaking, unless you are doing classified or valuable work, I don't really see the point of having too many protection levels. For me I simply use WEP and no MAC filtering because sometimes I have other notebooks or devices to connect and usually when people see that your network is secured, they don't even bother to try to use/crack your passphrase.

 

Try plain WEP first and work from there.

not sure if u got check the power adaptor or not..cos my dlink router..the problem started with consistently dropping ethernet connection..then 1 wk after that, wireless down...

 

Turns out that the adaptor burnt, melted..had to change new one... thank god for lifetime warranty

Actually y u go back to starhub? if u can connect directly from cable modem, more or less u already isolated the problem to be with router.. go throw back the router to linksys lah..

 

and sometimes mac filters cause problem, disable that n try again

 

Do this:

Power off ur computer, modem n router

Switch on modem 1st..wait for online indicator light to be lit

Power on your router and manually reset it

Go into the settings page, not sure about yours is where..

Remove all security settings, incl wep/wpa/mac

See you can access or not..

 

If ok,

then use WEP lah.. 26 digit code should be good enuff in most cases.

 

If not ok, throw back to linksys

i can access upon connecting but e ability to surf net or msn will fail aft smtime despite wireless connection showing connected wth excellent strength. will try WEP tml. late liao....tml got sch.

 

anyway jus updated my wireless card driver.will leave my comp on till tml morning.

dun use wep or wpa...use mac address..only mac address added to the wireless router.

if tats my router IP addr then if i cant ping it wat does it means?

Means the wireless connection has already dropped although it still indicates that it's connected.

my ping test shows 0% missing packets to the router

 

but 100% lost to the internet

mine is e other way round...

when i do tracert, first 3-4 hops got no reading.

dude sadly to say I got the same problem, using a new acer travelmate 4154, just got it changed at acer cuz the old one many problems..acer somehow always have probs aye? hmm I encountered this problem on and off at times..this afternoon it hit me from 5+pm till now..I just changed to channel 11 and Wireless Network Mode is G only..signal and speed keeps fluctuating..I hate this roller coaster ride of my life btw maybe yr anti virus is slowing the signal cuz of firewall?? i dunno just a comment about it..trying and erroring till pek cek

i think its my comp bah.tis prob arises aft i formatted my comp few mths ago....jus happened tat tis prob has gotten worse.even direct connection wth MOL modem i find it slow too.

i did use intel sth software for the wi fi, disabled the anti virus..I actually changed those stuff I mentioned and its better now..hmm wonder how it'll go in the day..

wah disable anti virus arh.i dun dare to try leh...scared ganna virus.anyway i d/ling other anti virus.once done i will change my norton to bitdefender n c hw

erm dude i dunno if I am wrong when I say this, your router already has a firewall (= and erm if you go into the 192.168.1.1 you can see it on/off mode btw I bought McAfee from NTU for but I never used more than 1 month I change to Avast then to Kaspersky(now giving it a try). No problems at all..Just do a scan now and then to keep your com clean ok? and also anti spyware is essential, I use AVG (previously ewido) . Recommend this to many and saved their fast (to slow) laptops in poly.. http://www.ewido.net its foc so no worries can use even after 30 days! :cheer:

and erm, lol torrent does slow your network and other stuffs down. dunno how to explain this part to you i think i'll let the others do it sorry but hey other than legal stuffs to dl try not to use torrent mate

i noe my router has firewall.it sld b on by default. i din off it. so it will affect my comp performance?previously, my comp n router config r default.no changes. how come now nid to config so much?
