Seems like alot of folks here are emphasizing on rider's safety/behaviour. But nobody, including me said that is unimportant. However, the discussion here today is about how different machines can enable a rider to be able avoid a nasty situation better.

We all have different levels of riding abilities. However, it does not mean that you can not make use of technology to your advantage.

If you think about it critically, there must be a good reason why motorcycle makers come out with ABS, combined brake system and consumers pay a Premium for it. Why ABS models are more expensive? Because it makes the ride slightly safer, in the event that the 10% makes all the difference.

+1 lah.. N my ride got ABS I n II + Traction Control :)

If you are bothered by the few hundred difference in premium, you might want to consider that the mechanical upkeep of S4 is higher. It's good to follow the advice of living within yr means and not to be a slave to yr transport.

i had also thought of the usual servicing. besides the EO and plugs i believe a kr is more problematic as compared to a s4. riding a kr chances that a wiring problem occurs, a piston jam etc problems occur more frequently than a s4. this is what i think lah., is it true?

Yes. The service intervals are shorter on a two stroke. However have you considered the cost if any engine components fail(although less likely) on the 400 it is going to alot more costly as well.

I think end of the day it's about what suits yr budget best. No point paying a premium price to shortchange yrself in other areas of yr life. My 2cts for you.

yea i agree

TS is just asking about machine safety but then people choose to go into subjective factors like rider safety la.. etc etc.

anyway a cb 400 is definitely safer than a class 2b bike as it has wider tires, better brakes and more power to get out of certain situations on the road sometimes.

i totally agree on the last part where u definitely need something with lots of torque to get you out of dangerous situations. many people say 2stroke 2b bikes can race with 2a etc, but have they ever thought of the torque difference between the two machines. a 150cc is always different from a 400cc. so yes, it's safer if u need that extra power at that critical moment.

try to read up more on the tell-tale signs of problems with s4. if possible, get someone who is well-versed in s4 to go down and view the bike with you. this will lower the chances of getting a shitty lemony machine. I myself have gotten a few shitty ones before, but we all learn from the lessons.

i have one friend who jump from tzm straight to cbr600 and he said he is not used to it too. So maybe it's true that 2A is machiam like a stepping stone to ride a class2. I not sure whether to choose super4, cbr or rvf leh...

real sad, only 3 choices. period.

Its juz a waste of $$ to get a class 2A bike if u intend to upgrade after a yr.. Not getting use to a bigger cc bike is not e bike problem but rider's problem.. Gotta teach urself to adapt to it.. Some may not agree to wat i said but its juz my honest-est opinion :)

This kind of thing really is up to individual to judge. What may be a waste of good money to some may be nothing to another. So i think it's best to discuss machine here instead of rider's pocket vs his ride.

Research properly, there's alot of 2A bikes, consider 250s as well. As far as using for a year + resale value, both RVF and CBR not good choices, DRZs and CB400 better but they are expensive being newer.

If you're getting a cheap Version S or spec 1 without any problems and using for a year, shouldn't be a problem but yes, if it does have problem, prepare to fork out more than your KR is worth. 4 pistons, camshafts, valves, timing chain, 4 stroke problems.. 2 strokes are simple yet effective machines, too bad they use a total loss lubrication system.
