i think my custom is running damn lean.. caz for 15litres i'm getting like 25km/litre. which equates to 375km per tank. and when i topped up at 375km, i managed to get in 13 litres only. go figure..perhaps i'm really going slow. haha.

Hi swirlacer, Do you means your DS custom full tank can go up to 375km? if there is the case then your bike must be supper save consumption....

When i first started riding, i too was very concerned on how much the tank will hold and how long it'll take me...But as i found out, it all depends on how the rider rides the bike, the more you rev your throttle, the more fuel it'll use up, and how you ride on the road also plays a huge part...

If you like to speed up all the time, it be a matter of time that you need to fill up your fuel tank again...So, it's all a matter of you and your bike, and how you both feel comfortable (Rider & Bike)...That's why, most riders consider their bike like their 1st or 2nd wife, either ways, it's so-called bonding with your ride bros...

Haha, is true what you said. But I just think if some one can share with me their real experience when they are riding DragStar 400 Custom bike. Example like if they riding on the road @ 90KM/HR will go up to ???KM / tank; if always cheong one like 100KM or above will only can last ???KM / Tank. of coz all this will vary from diference diference rider.....

First thing first bro, are you riding a DragStar 400 Custom at this present moment or are you thinking of buying one???....It all makes the difference bro coz if you are thinking of buying one then the questions you are asking do need to be answered from riders who are riding one at this moment but if you are riding one already, then the best way to find out is to ride the bike till the fuel tank runs dry and measure the consumption on different speeds constantly, e.g. ride the bike at a constant sped of 80-85km/h one day, then 90km/h after the next fuel up and so forth...That's how most riders figure out their own bike consumptions bro...

the reason why i'm asking abt the shifitng is because the recommended gear change speeds is in the manual.. so i'm guessing most of us dun follow manual but play by ear? i do feel that shifting so fast is quite weird. oh well.

anyway ya, 375km. now on my 2nd tank of petrol. will update on my fuel saver.ahhaha..

Hehehehe...Yes you are correct...Most riders don't even bother to follow the Manual's instructions...That's why there are the need for Bike Technicians and Mechanics...LOL.....

Carry on what you are doing bro and keep an update of how the fuel consumption is....Don't let anyone tell you that you are doing the wrong thing coz in the biking world, there is no such thing as the wrong thing, it's all a trial and test method and that's how the biking industry grow bro...Even the Grand Prix riders also do a trial and test of their machines on every race date without fail coz nothing is perfect...Cheers bro and keep in touch ya...

thanks bro, I just take over my friend bike last two day and top up with full tank. will try and test the fuel consumption result and update your. But just want to share with you guys that the handlerbar of my bike was changed to shadow handler ( wide ) . Not sure what did you guys prefer ? oringinal or wide handle bar ? can some one share ?

Again, it all boils down to how you feel about it and how comfortable it is for you...E.g. for myself, if i'm not comfortable with the original Handlebars, then i'll go get it changed to a Dragbar or something that makes me feel comfortable riding the bike...

Also a lookout factor, talking about Handlebars, whatever that you've decided, please ensure that the Handlebar provides you with a good clearance for your tank, during turnings, etc...Hope this helps you out bro...Cheers...

Hi Guys.

Sorry but totally off current topic, but just drilled out my exhaust for my Dragstar 1100. Sounds soooooo much better. Love it. Just a couple of 10mm holes makes a world of difference...

BTW met a fellow draggie tonite, at mountbatten rd SP kiosk. I asked u bout saddle bags, so now u know who I am.

Agree with the rest if you could video your pipes bro...By the way, when you do that, does it affect the fuel consumption???....Cheers....

My current DS 400 the front fork was extended by my previous owner. He say that time ( 3-4 years back ) about $60.

My first top up 10 litter and about 231km. I think full tank is about 340km.

Is quite high consumption.....:slapforehead:

hmm regarding extensions hor, i had them on my custom for about a mth or 2 b4 taking them out eventually.. enlonged my forks by abt 6inches.. so juz wanted to share w ur my own experiences shld any of ur be interested..

first is e riding posture, bike becomes even more relaxed, n dere's more clearance over humps, but hor, e jia lat part is negotiating bends.. v wobbly.. esp if u neg bends on highway.. make sure u get proper extensions oso la, coz i heard from a fellow draggie owner dat his previous extensions were hollow one, n dey gave way.. like bent or picak or smth..

den if u get ur forks extended, maybe will need to lengthen ur side stand oso.. i had an aluminium block welded to e base of my stand.. if not park dat time ar, e bike slant like dunno wad lidat.. e wirings to handlebar i think still ok, but e brake cable might need to look for longer one.. n if u wan to keep ur speedo running, u'll need to custom make e cables too.. coz even e longest off-the-shelve speedo cable will be way too short.. i had mine done in a shop at race course lane/road, cant rmbr le..

all in all i'd say extension is a fashion statement dat u want to make for urself, if its for comfort hor, i'd suggest u look for other alternatives..

hmm dunno if my reply is abit late, but if e forks r just soft n not showing signs of oil leakage hor, den change oil oso wun help much one.. coz its most prob e fork suspension old liaoz.. i changed my fork oil a couple of times when i juz took it over but it doesnt help.. if u insist on high viscosity oils or fill slightly over e limit hor, e forks will juz end up v v stiff, either coz e oil cant flow thru e small holes in e fork, or dey got no space to flow to..

there are 2 kinds of extensions that u can do.

1st - inserting a copper pipe into the fork tubes to increase the spring tension. thats the mod described in the 650ccnd website. this mod stiffens your fork which in turn gives u an extra of about 1inch of ride ht.. forks dun dip as much when u brake. but its a pain in the A$$ to get the fork tubes in.. i did this mod b4.. not much diff.. u will only notice it during braking

2nd - fork extensions.

this is done by screwing the solid steel/ aluminium extensions to the top of your fork. they relpace your current fork caps.. this one will lengthen the entire length of the fork.. but i would not recommend this as it is structurally unsafe i'll tell u why.

jus try to picture the dynamics of stresses acting on the fork.. your lower clamps area actually provide the most amount of stress to your forks.. your upper clamps share this load so that the forks are sorta in a "braced" position. u have to agree that its easier for the fork to bend if i jus grip it with the lower clamps compared to if i grip it with the top and lower clamps together. so going on from this line of tot, the fork extensions only provide an area of grip at its threaded area thats being screwed to the top of the fork. now imagine u clamp everything up and u do a fricking strong karate chop at the section where the extension meets the fork... will it break?? theoretically yes.. compared to one solid tube.. the extension set up is much much weaker.

i see i see..so if i were to do it then i should go for the increasin spring tension huhz...but maniahk feedback say wobbly when turn in..so now i'm not too sure abt doing it also...
