Does anyone know if the clutch in 2T motorcycles is dry or wet clutch? If wet clutch, is it lubricated by same oil as engine oil?

i think most bikes in singapore are "wet clutch" ( anyone can correct me if i'm wrong ). if i am not wrong only ducati or some special bikes are of dry clutch.

for most 2T bikes ( i am talking about 125Z / RX-Z / KRR / SP / TZM etc., not sure about aprilia / cagiva )...the clutch is lubricated by 4T engine oil, just like any other 4-stroke bikes. some people have tried using other stuff ( transmission / gear oil ) but i think if you are not so sure as you are still a "dummy", stick to 4T engine oil first for the time being & experiment later, when you become more interested in such technical things ( i am not the technical type :pity: )

i have been owning only 2T bikes for almost 2 decades & have only ever used 4T engine oil ( besides every motortiam carry them & will change it for you ) so far with no problems. i am too lazy to try other types of oil. the main thing with 2T bikes is the 2T lubrication oil, which is a different topic.

btw, you never mentioned what were your previous bikes? :)

the modern day class 2 / 2A bikes have become very "advanced" with EFI, ABS, TC etc. Some of the technology have filtered down to smaller 2B bikes ( eg. EFIs ).

excluding the aprilia / cagiva models which i know nothing of, the 2T bikes now are not much different from the 90s as the big 4 manufacturers & others put in no / little effort in developing their technology further since maybe 2001 onwards. so it is actually the same old technology really.

only thing is, i think since the start of this year, i don't think there are any new 2T bikes for sale ( excluding scramblers or unless you are very lucky to get old stock ). So you probably can only buy 2nd hand 2T bikes. Not that bad really as i have also never ever bought a brand new bike in my life! :) i only buy 2nd ( or 3rd or whatever ) hand :p

seriously, i intend no offence to anyone...:shy:

but maybe he is a guy who is "old" ( youngsters laugh at us 2T bikes fans as old geezers living in the past :p ) enough to recall the 2T "fun" factor.

the 4T vs 2T bikes choice imho is very personal just like the 4 wheels ( safer? ) vs 2 wheels ( Fun!!! ) choice. the "modern" preferred choice are 4-strokes bikes but "old" folks like us just cannot forget how much more "FUN" the 2T bikes were. :pity:

life is like that sometimes. it is not always about doing the norm. sometimes "old" guys just want to have "fun" / "zest" / "passion" too. Putting back the smile in the face. "mid-life crisis" ??? hahaha...:D

I am sure I could empathize with you on this one.

It was a Honda cub or something, bought 2nd hand during my student day. It wasn't something advancedjust what I could afford then.

 back in the 80s, I rode a bike with no engine ( ie. bicycle but i've got expensive SHIMANO gears hahaha...:D ) during my student days, so you are actually better off than me.

i am only 41 years young, probably much younger than you :p

if the only experience you have got is just a cub...& you have not been riding for more than 10 years. i think you ought to get a 2nd hand ( don't know how long your "comeback" will be, no offence :p ) bike that is similar to the one you had.

the modern versions are Honda wave ( 4-stroke 125cc like your cub ) or Yamaha Spark( 4T 135cc ) or Modenas GT ( 128cc 4T ). small simple, cheap transport workhorses.

a simple cheap 2T bike will be Yamaha 125Z ( it is also a cub except it is a "faster" 2-stroke that will require you to get used to filling up your 2T pump & maybe even more importantly it is "manual" where you have to change gears so be warned if you have been going the "auto" route for too long :p )

other alternatives will be the Yamaha RX-Z ( 2-stroke 133cc street bike ).

i suggest you start from these bikes before considering the faster SP / KR / TZ 150cc 2T sport bikes or even bigger 4-strokes CB-400 / CBR400 / RVF / RSV4...that will probably come later :p

PS: how come i can't change my signature???

Thank you Bruce for the information. I am reading up on the net as well. Awful lot of information available.
