Hi all. I wish to enquire not about retaining of number plate, but how to cancel and get my 1.3k back if I don't want to have the number plate anymore?

Basically, I retained the number plate of my previous bike A and sold it, with the intention of using the number plate on my new bike when I bought it first hand. By doing so, I would get back 1.2k of the 1.3k I paid and pay $100 for the transfer of number plate. However in the end I decided to get a 2nd hand bike, and have no wish to transfer the number plate over cause it would mean that I lose the 1.3k totally.

May I know if there's any way I can just let go of the number plate and get my 1.3k back?

Thank you very much!

If i am not wrong, transferring the retain number plate to a second hand bike is 300. I stand to be corrected though.

Or else you have 1 year to get someone to buy the retained number plate from you.

Okay, so I will get 1k back? Just need to clarify this issue! So troublesome. Thank you.

from what i know, transferring a retain number plate to a 2nd hand bike is $1300, not $300. besides selling the number plate, i dun think there is any other way that u can get back the $1300 since u have already gotten a 2nd hand bike and no intention of getting another brand new bike. with regards to the amt needed for transferring a retain number plate to a 2nd hand bike, i think it is best to ask LTA for the correct pricing

You are right, transferring a retained number plate to a 2nd hand bike will cost you $1300, meaning you do not get the $1300 back from when you paid to retain the number plate.

However, if one wishes to transfer the number plate onto a new bike, the fee is only $100 and $1200 will be refunded via cheque through mail.

Do note that the bike has to be in the name of the person who owns the number plate, therefore if you wish to sell the number plate and there is a willing buyer, he has to transfer the number plate to you first before you can put the number plate on his/"your" bike, then transfer back to the buyer.

Just some information for people who are interested in doing so. Thanks.
