ECU stalling? again, no. i even purposely try to replicate the conditions that supposed cause the stall, clutch in and coast thru a turn (such a noob method of cornering :p ), but no the engine did not stall.

BUT... i do notice this bike has a curious way of warming up. when you start the bike from cold, the engine purposely brings the rpm up about 700rpm above your usual idling, and it stays there. my bike is set to 1.5k idling normally, and on cold starts it will idle at about 2.2k. then every 20s, i will blip throttle (before moving off), and with every blip, the idling gradually drops lower until it gets to the 'correct' preset of 1.5k. then i take it the bike has properly warmed. when the engine is turned off and then turned on again while still warm, it immediate idles normally at 1.5k. the extra idle rpm occurs only at cold start.

this gave me a panic moment early on when i never noticed such a thing (my previous bike also 4-stroke EFI no such thing mah). Early on, I set it to 1.5k idle on a cold start. You guessed it, after a few blips, it dropped below 1k..... and stalled! Re-start bike, blip a few times.... stalled. Panic and desperate, I adjusted to 2.5k rpm idle and rode off without stalling. Next morning on another cold start, I paid careful attention to how the bike behaved and finally saw its ‘warming up pattern’.

This may be related to the stall issue. When the stalling first came up, Kawasaki responded by saying that “no problems, its just how the bike warms up”. But if USA owners experiencing stall and sent for recall claim problem now gone, Kawasaki either changed something about its warming up, or this warming up pattern not whats causing the stall.

In any case, no stalls for me.

Indeed bro, ECU stalling has in some way traced to warming and the idling issue. Some said that behavior of warming up has changed after replacement of ECU.

Btw, I went to (**) (insert your own shop here) just now, and he gladfully told me they had done round 1 of recall.

I was puzzled by his answer.

Is your model affected by the recall? Cause you haven heard anything thus far yea?

Yea, I was hoping for 2014 model to rectify the fix as I highly doubt the support over here would be of any significance.

Thanks for taking time out to write such details explanation man :D

if i look at the details of my bike records, i believe mine was imported around may of this year. which means based on the fact that the ninja was sold here much earlier, it is at least second shipment (donno how many shipments so far). round 1 may refer to earlier shipments so i maybe still waiting. or they themselves confuse and referred to the recall of the earlier ninja250.

in any case, to date i have neither the stalling issue nor the fairing pop out issue.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

that is good to hear!

TBH, im waiting for the 2014 partly down to 2 issue.

1 - fixing the recall problem.

2 - Im really really stuck in the dilemma between XJ6 and this :cheeky:

So far how is your ninja doing for you? Bet you had run in finished already :p

i'm totally loving the bike. i said it before, this bike has shown me that for 100% local commuting, you really don't need anything more. the light steering, plus the broad power delivery, makes it very easy to ride and play within road limits.

the only thing i still miss is the ability to "shock and awe" with a good twist of throttle. the ninja accelerates hard and overtakes cars when i twist the throttle hard; but a proper class 2 bike simply tells other cars "dont even bother thinking you are any match for me".

if you're willing to pay extra for that ability, go for an XJ6 or more. only the buyer can decide how much money its worth, or how much the silly grin on your face is worth. i say its worth it, but i've already had it before and i have no regrets giving it up for a more practical riding life.

Hi all, I have been interested in the ninja 300 for awhile and planning the get it when the 2014 stock comes in.

Anyway, I went down to Evershine today asking about the recall and 2014's 300.

When asked if he knows about recalls related to the 300, he said he haven't heard, but owners will be informed if affected. Also mentioned that even if affected by the recall, they will check before deciding if it is neccessary to order affected parts. As for the 2014's 300, he say don't know, wait for 2014.

So unfortunately, no useful information to share. Might have been more fruitful if he wasn't trying so hard to get me to buy the 300 on the spot. Also interesting how he was unwilling to quote a price, and when pushed, agar in excess of 16k with insurance.

On the same note, S1 and Excel quoted 15.7K (incl. 3p insurance) and 15.8K (excl. insurance) respectively. Thankfully, both weren't as wishy-washy.

Thks. I will try keep a look out for the bike.

Do u guys know wats the price difference for the ABS n non-ABS version?

What I heard from Excel Cycle, is there's no non-abs model in SG..

Couldn't really fully understand what he was saying though.. he was sort of like, mumbling :/

I checked with them around Last Month..

Long Live the Dream.

Evershine have only brought in ABS models, only black and green at the moment. No white, no SE colour, and no non-ABS.

Not sure if there are any parallel imports available.

As mechwira mentioned, 2014 models have began selling in many countries, with new colours.

Hopefully they will make it to our shores.

Looi's. they also have the european special edition with the leo vince end-can.

from what i understand, leo vince distributor needs a ninja 300 owner to buy and be the bike for the leo vince end can inspection. ie, the pipe is awaiting approval pending an actual ninja 300 for testing. if you want, then your bike will be used for the test.

*** RECALL NOTICE!!! ***

i received the recall letter for my ninja from evershine today, for 'Replacing of ECU unit and checking of ABS Hydraulic unit'.

i do intend to send it in for recall, but not so soon coz busy with work next few weeks. once i send it in, i'll share the experience of what happens and whether the bike feels any different after that.

on a brighter note, for those intending to buy new from evershine, it should now have had the recall done.

you can find many reviews of ninja300 vs cbr250r online, all of which show the ninja winning hands down in terms of performance with no significant disadvantage in fuel economy

but 400X harder to say, i can only find one review and its of the Ninja300 vs the CBR500R. i think you will be hard-pressed to find one involving the 400 series since they are pretty much jap and SEA-only models.

I'm still contemplating on the 300 kawa. Its a lovely bike i must say but the price is a big steep ... Groann

only if you're thinking of prices several years ago. i think we bought our cbr6 at about 18.5k otr minus insurance? compare that with this kawa at about 15k otr minus insurance, yah ridiculous.

but.... today's 600cc sports cost 21k, 1000cc cost 30k, and a super4 cost 16.5k....... when you put the kawa in there at 15k, it looks about right. even you put in the price of CBR250 and CBR400R, they more or less 'fit' this new scale.

Yes you're right there. Prices in Singapore are getting a bit ridiculous. I'll drop down Looi's this weekend and see if the Euro version u spoke about is still there.
