As long it's belt vs chain timing. Chain always win in terms of maintenance hahaha

You are right, the price of a Duc timing belt is insane and it can only last for 1200-2400km, depend on usage.

Ducatis, where do I start, desmodromic valve system, belt timing and dry clutch explains the 12k,24k expenses and the dry clutch wears out faster than wet. 1199 a lil different, using wet clutch and timing chain if I not wrong.

BMWs, probably their need for that diagnostic system tts the issue. For the newer ones anyway.

Conti bikes all have more expensive spares vs Jap ones because of production numbers, just a theory, there's profit margins to be kept, more people buy Jap than conti bikes so to keep it within target, conti bike spares cost more. The other problem is their availability, you'll have to wait long long for spares, esp that certain Italian brand.

Consumables like chains, tyres, spark plugs, certain accessories costs about the same. Class 2 bikes aren't meant to be ridden like commuters anyway, overkill.

As far as standard servicing goes, they are all the same, if you're talking about spares, Ducati probably more expensive vs BMW.
