Changing from one stock headlight to another bike model stock headlight. Legal?

Basically, I was thinking of changing the headlamp of the Yamaha FZ16 to a Honda Super 4 headlight so as to slowly achieve a cafe racer inspired look. Can someone tell me if this is legal? My argument would be it's just changing from one stock headlight to another so it would probably meet the guidelines of LTA.

Hmm... Looking forward to the responses!

If it doesn't come stock with the bike, unless approved by LTA(e.g. certified exhaust), technically no. Whether you will kena for it during inspection, depends on the person.

True... It all depends on whether u meet the special LTA enforcement officer just before they get their performance bonus or not... Cos some LTA officers can be really mean...

Damn... That's a bummer to know. I sent an email to LTA regarding this but I had no reply. Hahaha

Anybody has done a modification of this sort and not been disturbed by the authorities for it?

Uhm, there are people who have done it and been disturbed and people who have done it and not been disturbed. It's just down to your luck, inspection centre, mood of the person inspecting during annual inspection, LTA/ROV siao on or not. Many factors. Do what you want, but know that it's not approved and be ready with money to pay for fines and have the resources to switch back to stock. Then, just enjoy.

For perspective, I have had a white bulb in my headlight for 2 annual inspections with no problem. This year I go to the same centre, new guy, says colour fail. Change n go back. Oh, and my white polelights which have been with the bike the same duration, also fail.

basically, it won't be able to pass inspection, if they go strictly to the books.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Really? I am a tad bit confused now. So if I do change to the Super 4 headlight and then make sure the colour and intensity of the light is according to the LTA guidelines, they can't penalise/fine me for anything?

So just an update, LTA finally called me back and told me that if I were to change the headlight, it might result in a short circuit as the Super 4 headlight is not meant for the FZ16. As such, it would fail during inspection. I personally feel this is a good cover up to make it illegal but hey, now we know the fact straight from the authorities themselves. Thanks for the input guys!

Its just Singaporeans' misfortunate that LTA is dishing out such standard and unprofessional reply, it's no wonder they will partially liable for the MRT breakdown.

As long as your headlight has no funky colors, there is no reason it will fail any inspection because headlight is still a non-failure item.
