I have not been looking at any bike for the last 7-8 years and is totally out of touch with the situation.

My current bike (scooter actually) left 10 months of coe but is giving quite a bit of problem.

I was infrequently asking for a quote on a new bike and also on carousell for a 2nd hand bike.

To my surprise, the sole distributor price is the best for a new bike while reseller quote slightly higher.

- Can anyone advice how does this make sense? Or did I just happen to go to reseller that quote higher? Or the distributor price exclude some item that is included by the reseller (insurance, box etc)

Also, the 2nd hand bike market asking price is very high for me.

If I simply take the distributor price and divide by 10 as yearly depreciation ($20k into  $2k depreciation), a 2 year old bike asking for around $18k.

- Is this the 2nd hand market price at the moment? Or I need to aggressively bargain for a reasonable price?

With such a 2nd hand market and not being a good bargainer, I thought I should either

1) get a new bike from distributor or

2) repair the current bike to last for 10 months and hopefully the coe become at least more reasonable to cover the repair cost

- Any advice or any logic I'm missing on how the market is right now?

based on what I heard some places does sell abit lower.. reseller give you the assurance that all is brand new and good and insurance for whatever months they quoted.. but those individual shops might "claimed" to give you 1 year.. but actually they will push you back to official reseller and that's when it gets complicated..

Some bikes that's being sold in Singapore is also called as PI (Parallel imported). these bikes has 0 warranty no matter what the shop claims.

Your calculation is correct.. but  need to add in the "Accessories" that they added to the bike? example, exhaust, suspension, and etc etc.. (usually I'll based on their purchase price back then) easier to calculate the actual value..  & alot of times people wan you to continue their COI plans.. same advises as back then.. most people dun wan to COI other people's plan.. cuz alot of things can go haywire..

Based on what I hear people say.. COE will only remain or go higher.. just buy a new bike from official distributor if you can spare the additional cash.

Current bike you can choose to sell as whole, ask what's the export rates now.. (then sell as whole from there). Or dismantle and sell as parts.

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

Please proceed to this website/web link if you guys have any technical issues on Kawasaki Kips/KR150, I'll update the 1st POST as and when there's a new question. Newbies questions on the top as well. :)

Thanks for the information.

I'm aware of the parallel import "warranty".

But the price of 2nd hand is a bit different from my previous impression.
Previously, the general impression is once a new bike is on the road, the value is much lower.
Thus, generally the first couple of year depreciation is more than the later years.

Also, I didn't know can sell as export.
Think will be good to recoup some cash instead of paying to send the bike to scrap.

Thanks again.

Yes yes.. motorcycle shops will still based on their purchase price divided by 10.. Motorcycle shops dun based on current COE pricing..

Long long time ago, we based on mileage and COE left.. and once a new bike is on the road, straight away minus 1-2k depending on Class..

Nowadays based on COE divide by 10 years.. then maybe +1k for machine.. So just based on this formula you should be able to find justification for your purchase.. remember if no upgrades done on the bike. then we should not + additional for the machine.. but for class 2.. usually got a couple of hundreds of scrap value..

hope all these information helps in your next purchase.. :)

Hello all,

I am also looking for a bike, first bike since coming to SG 4.5 years ago.

As OP mentioned the 2nd hand prices seem very expensive - originally I was thinking of buying a bike with 1 or 2 years COE left... but the cheapest bike is still 2-2.5k (1 year or less COE left) or about 4k (2 years COE left). So I think it is still possible to get a PI unit for around $17-19k right? (price inc. new 10 year COE). If I just take a new PI unit bike for that kind of price, and pay instalments, it doesnt seem that different to buying 10x used bikes with 1 year COE left... right? So if I can get motorbike loan, then a new bike works out about the same - I pay around 2k per year to finance company instead. Or have i misunderstood?

Are these bikes with only 1 or 2 year left called "COE Bikes"? Saw this term online.

Also, where I come from you can find a "spares or repairs" kind of motorbike. So maybe they need some work. Maybe need serious repair (crash-damaged, maybe engine faulty) or just cosmetic or very abused - but for someone who knows how to fix them , e.g. for a hobby, it is sometimes a cheap way to get a bike. Does this exist in SG? Maybe those old ah-peh bike, without modification , stock condition, just very used and coverset very scratched up, maybe with some duct tape covering holes in the seat. - running condition but cost less $ - that's ideal for me.

depending on your mindset and preference when comes to bikes.

you can choose to buy those left 1 year coe and renew coe then they become COE bike (bikes that have been renewed COE before)

PI bike is not recommended as you might not be able to get the support or parts that you needed.. most likely need to buy from overseas and either DIY or get bike shop to help out.

Yes.. just look at Carousell for those bikes.. (need repairs or etc)
