taxi should be installed with SWD like the army rovers. like the new tonners, they are limited to 55 kmh unless emer is activated. it is capable of a min 120.

also, a device similar to a SWD should be done to catch taxi drivers who who dont use the min 3 secs signal rule. the steering sensor can detect a turn and reset the signal knob. so, i dun see the point why a timer cant be added?

any electrical genius who can come out with some schematic? its not necessary for it to transmit the offense to some base station. all it is has to do is activate some light bulb, like those cargo vans and uncle sam can attend to our dearest life saving taxis

by speed limiter, do you mean a device that actually prevents the car from going beyond 90kmh, instead of beeping or tripping the mileage meter like SAF vehicles?

if there was such a device they would have installed on the trucks wouldn they? TP dam hard on trucks now (and i support).

how bout a different device, one that stops their payment meter at speeds above 80 kmh? no such device yet, but cant be hard to produce coz it would be electronic, unlike a mechanical device to actually limit the vehicle's speed. this device would effectively take away the cabbies' motivation to speed. they speed because they think do faster will earn more coz can get more passengers, but wif this device, do faster actually earn nothing.

mebbe u can gather ideas, see which one(s) u like and u can email to taxi association and cc TP and LTA. i actually been thinking of this device i mentioned quite awhile back.

mine got going until 5 or 6 pages then i shoot letter up and get reply wat, how else u want the topics to 'get going'?

I seen a 5 tonner go 120kmh before...

just off the limiter..

the thing is there were a few tonners that didnt have the speed limit entered. as a result no power cut. which driver on earth is going to complain about it.

let's see. About 20K taxis, cost of equip + installation ~$50. Comes up to $1000,000.

Hmmm, a 1 million dollar exercise. Dont think so! :cheeky:

i've ever overheard someone comment that sg gov makes $2,000,000 (two million) a month on parking fines... dunno true or not.

I agree it's the driver that is dangerous, whether it's 1000cc or 3000cc...

Therefore, it's no point limiting the taxi speed.

Let's say, the taxi is travelling on the left most lane at 70km/hr, u ride bike on the right lane of taxi...when u are side by side of taxi, he cut right into your path...

So, ask urself, does it matter if it's 1000cc or 3000cc?

I say, wanna make the roads safer, start with the driver and riders. Treat it right from the source...

lets hope the time comes when A.Is installed in the taxi monitor traffic flow and inhibits abrupt lane changes and the like.....

haha in maybe another 100 years...

Be careful what you wish for. Taxis and motorbikes are the target of the public eye.

When speed limiters for taxis come into operation, your bike may be next.

R1 with a top speed of 90 km/h, anyone?

that would be a sad day might as well all ride the same bike.... all the same engine configuration but just different colour...... sucks man....... lol.....

This is wat i see in my views, heheeh just imaginations.....

if government implement the speed thing, low speed = lesser n lesser customer, lesser customer = cabbie cannot make money, never make money = nobody drive taxi, nobody drive taxi = cab company close down, company close down = government got less tax to the business. So will government implement?

What's wrong with cabbies exceeding the speed limit by say 20-30km/h? this doesn't constitute dangerous driving.. I'm always travelling at close to 30km/h above limit when I'm on the lane 1 of the expressway.

The issue should be on how to make taxi drivers drive safer and pay more attention to fellow motorist.

Installing speed limiter device is definitely not going to produce too much impact on the safetyness of the taxi drivers.

Posted

It's not the speed posed a threat to motorist,

rather it's their 'dangerous driving' that cause it.

(e.g. changing lanes abruptly, without signalling, stop as they wished not considering whether there's ample time and space for the back vehicle to react)

True I agree with that, but we bikers just wish to have a little more respect on the road.

Usually when cars turn into the main road, if its another car approaching, they will wait.

However if its bike, they just continue driving, forcing we bikers to squeeze hard on our BRAKES.

Don't forget, we pay road tax too.

taxi driver should stay in their speed limits.

safe for us(rider)

safe for him(taxi driver)

safe for passagers(inside taxi)

and signal in advance.

Lodging a complaint against them is useless.

Always get the same answer.

The drivers are warned and complaints are filed.

But no action.

On the other hand, we don't complain for the sake of complaining.

Usually it's their reckless driving that almost cost our life.

At times I really wonder, must things seriously happen before they take action?
