Hi darkredmica...heez...

just to ask, before the bike come to a complete stop, is it that we have to kick to gear 1 before stopping???

can stop at any higher gear when come to a complete stop than push down to gear 1???

No. For now the emphasize is to kick to gear 1. Sometimes the instructors will kick your gear to check which you stop at. But once you pass I guess you can stop in any gear? Haha.

hahaha, so i guess that the correct procedure when learning is always plan ahead and know where u are stopping so u have sufficient time to kick to gear 1 before you come to a complete stop.

Hahaha i see the spirit bro!

And you have to kick to gear one, all the time, even tp. Cuz u need that gear to set off. Whatever cdc teach u, is for like minimum safety ah. And jyjy find slot for prac 1. Book 2 slots ah!

Now i really is damn gian to cheong and have fun with the bike...oh ya and to remove the bike from mainstand, any tips anot??? looks heavy leh.

ok, so no matter what, when the veh is stop, the gear must be at 1, not stop liao, than quickly press down to gear 1.

Sure, definitely will book 2 slots...

i really envy those ppl who are schooling, got all the time in the world :thumb:

Wa. I also felt that. Really envy those people who are still schooling who can book many slots than working adults. But if you really want to get ahead, sometimes need to make some sacrifices. I would just take those slots after work even though I felt tired just to get over the current prac and move on the next. Sometimes burn weekends. But to think back sometimes it's good taking at night cuz there are pracs that you MUST take at night. So take one shot finish it up and move on to the next.

Always be on gear one when bike is not moving. Must know how to play with the gears, do engine brake and stop smoothly then you will find it easier to be on gear one. And more importantly, always test the biting point of the bike cuz you wont be riding the same bike every time. Some biting point is half clutch, some is little bit only can move already. Get yourself familiarized.

Moving off the bike from main stand is more on force. Push the bike out and when it rolls out, apply front break to stop. Don't push too much later off balance. Normally you tilt the bike back a bit then PUUUUSSSHHHHH then front break. Haha.

Hope that helped. :D

yeah schooling time is the best cos u have so much time but cons side is not much $$$, usually parents wont sponsor for bike also...

Working adults have the $ but timing wise limited due to work.

Thanks for the detailed tips and info...really appreciated bikers here sharing tips about bike etc...so can apply it to use on every of the bike lessons.

yup. must be in gear one when you stop. because you need to be able to take off again immediately without having to waste time changing gear. only time you don't do this is for emergency stop.

right foot is never down when you ride apart from when you first change to gear 1 at the start of your ride and when you change back to neutral at the end of your right. never!

haven't updated my thoughts on lesson 3.

its a straight forward lesson, not so much instructions like lesson 2 and not so confusing.

you will do slope first then figure 8 and crank course:

for slope, the technique is:

1. Ride up to the point just before the line on the slope - two bikes on slope at any time, one on left curb one on right curb.

2. stop as normal in gear 1, left foot down (note if you are on left of slope, you should be in left turn signal when you arrive, if you are on right of slope you should be in right signal when you arrive).

3. while stepping on foot brake, release the clutch to biting point, and rev a little bit with the throttle, when you feel the bike start to bite - signal away from the kerb, check safety and move off by releasing the foot brake and increasing throttle. maintain half clutch/biting point until you clear the top of the slope/hill and then release clutch fully. important - only check back once you have released the clutch to biting point.

4. if you are the bike on the left side, signal right and check back to the right, if you are the bike on the right side, signal left and check back left when moving off.

5. for the first part of the lesson you will make a circuit by turning left and left and left to get back to the slope, but once you are doing ok, the instructor will ask you to go right and right and right to simulate the actual right turn into the slope area for the actual circuit route. check my map in the earlier posting for reference

6. when you arrive at the slope, you must wait at the bottom of the slope if there is a bike on the slope - do not change lanes if the bike on the other side of the slope from you moves off first. e.g. if you arrive and there are two bikes on the slope and you stop along the left kerb... and the bike on the right kerb moves off and there is no bike on your right waiting, you cannot go up and take the spot on the right kerb.

For figure of 8:

1. stop at the line just before the entrance to figure 8. wait for instructor signal (on TP day it will be a flashing light to signal you)

2. when signal is given, check left and right, then accelerate sharply and try to change into 2nd gear just before you enter the figure 8 course, you will be in left signal when you are starting - cancel the signal once you start along the course. take note, timing starts once you cross the line at the entrance of the course not from the time you start off.

3. you will need to lean your bike in the direction of travel in order to move fast enough, but look ahead or 45% diagonally - don't look down.

4. after you change directions to do the right hand leg of the turn, you will have to signal left just before the exit of the figure 8 course

5. try maintain throttle at same place while using rear brake to control speed

6. must complete the course in 11 seconds or less to avoid points deduction

7. after exiting stop at the line before the crank course entrance

Crank Course is simple, just ride slowly and steadily in second gear, you should be able to clear it as 6 seconds is quite long.

hope this helps.

Thanks fr always taking the effort to type out everything which you have learnt. Really valuable but at the same time it intimidates me.

Slope will be one of my greatest fear most definitely. Was it easy? What if you happen to roll back? Immediately reach for your brakes again but your bike might slant right?

if you roll back slightly minus points. if you roll back more than a certain amount (can't recall, 1.5 feet i think) is immediate fail. just remember this - don't let go of the brake until you fell the bike start to move forward as you release the clutch. once you release the brake rev the throttle more, and you can control the speed by playing with the clutch.
