Hi All,

Relatively new rider here looking for a community of expats or locals who enjoy going on evening rides or day trips, etc. I'm American and bought my first bike here in SG about 9 months ago, (2009 Yamaha Fazer 600 S2). I got my license back in the states about a month before moving here and was lucky to get it converted to a Class 2 here in SG. I have been riding various bikes since 2005 on trips to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, etc. but never owned until now. I chose a 600cc bike to start with and it has been a perfect balance of performance and practicality. I am thanking my lucky stars I didn't do something stupid like get a liter bike before gaining the necessary experience and discipline...(I was looking at an 05' FZ1 before choosing the FZ6).

I'm looking to network, get riding tips, plan some track days at some point and explore SG and beyond.

It's not How fast you go... It's how FAR you Travel...:thumb:

It's the Rider! Not the Bike! o_O

dun worry about the stupidity ,

there are people riding a litre bike in singapore and most hardly travel out of the country

even if they do , they never travel more then 100km , one way

What a coincidence. I sold my '09 FZ6 S2 to an American expat in November 2012. He said he owned an FZ6 in the US and didn't want to get anything else. I hope he is enjoying his ride now. In any case, you made a good choice. The little Fazer is agile, plenty powerful and easy to maintain. You spend less time tinkering and more time riding.

There aren't many good motorcycling roads in Singapore. The near part of Malaysia is also not mountainous, so you won't find great canyon roads within a couple of hours' drive. But there are some very nice roads further north. Keep an eye out for weekend trips to these places on this forum.

As for track days, the nearest track is Johor Circuit about an hour's drive away in Malaysia. The facility is quite spartan IMO but the track is tight and technical. Track rental is very affordable, especially if you compare it to what you have to pay to ride on similar tracks in SoCal. I am thinking of going as well, so give me a shoutout when you're interested.

Cheers!

Hey Rhema83, thanks for the post. So far so good with the Fazer; it has been very easy to maintain thus far. Although I don't have much to compare it to, the front suspension does seem a bit soft and there is no adjustment. Actually, this is the kind of stuff I want to discuss and learn from the more experienced out here when we meet up. For instance, sometimes I feel the bike is loose on some corners and I don't know if it is a riding position issue or in part to do with the soft suspension. Also wondering how to best gauge how far I can lean the bike over in a turn without risking a low-side, and also what is the threshold on counter sterring, i.e. how do you know how much force can you exert before it's too late?

Anyway, I shall keep an eye out for meetups and short trips.

Cheers

OK, it looks like we have some interest from you guys so let's keep the conversation going and just decide on something simple and easy.

Someone suggested Gunung Ledang (Mount Ophir) Waterfall, anybody been there? Google Maps says is around 235 KM drive.

Have another suggestion? Let's here it!

Just voice your preferences here...even if you just want to do JB or something. I suppose cruising speed is important to mention too, in case we are not on the same page. I suppose for me somewhere in the 120-140 range seems comfortable, but I am flexible.

OK folks, it looks like there is plenty of interest and now we need a plan. I would like to do a ride to Cameron Highlands 19-21 April. I need a volunteer who is familiar with planning rides, or who has already been to Cammeron Highlands before and is willing to help plan some of the details of the trip and take lead on navigation ;). Any takers???

Anybody interestd can post or PM me your name and number. Once we have a few people we can have a short meet-up during the week/weekend to discuss the trip in person.

First...are there any volunteers who are experienced travelers to the region or who have been to Cameron Highlands before who can help plan and take lead?
