Circuit Training (Outfield Orientation): S$25.68(peak)

Came in like a total newbie, had no idea what to do. Hahahah approached the guy at the counter, and he ask me to have a seat. Well, basically just a brief of the requirements, like gloves, helmets, knee and elbow guards. Then moved on to the benches whereby he gave us more information on what to expect for the lessons; afterwards inform more about the bike and basic do's and dont's. Well, he sidetrack abit sometimes, which is what i like so as not to make it so boring...

PDL Application: S$25.00

Arrived CDC at around 12.15pm, TP counter closes at 12.30 (on Saturdays). Well, after i got my pdl, i didn't check. And by the time i saw my pdl outside cdc, i realized the lady go and put CLASS 3. :sian:

So my advice, ALWAYS CHECK EVERY DOCUMENT YOU RECEIVE

I was too late, TP counter closed, so I went on another day to edit my PDL to class 2b, and booked my 1st prac lesson.

Lesson 1(a): S$23.54(off-peak)

So the day has come, the day of my 1st prac. 8.30am some more. I had to wake up like 4hrs earlier than my usual wake up time. Hehe.

Anyways, started off with instructor checking our attire.

Note:Wear helmets that are PSB-certified, gloves, guards, jeans and most imptly, COVERED SHOES. Like all those flats that looks like shoes, or shoes that looks like flats, cannot (especially girls). You'll be asked to wear their boots, which im sure will be smelly. :faint: Also try to wear ankle-covering socks, cuz while i was gearshifting, my ankle touched the engine, PANAS SIOL! No injuries though.

So the lesson starts off with dry runs, where instructor teach us how to take off correctly. Then we move on to using the front brakes. Kanchiong-ed, so i nearly fell several times. Then moved on to using rear brake + front brake to assist in stopping. I had a hard time to get pass this stage, wouldn't wanna give excuses, but it's cuz a girl kept falling into my way, that i had to wait for her to pickup the bike, clear the way etc. So had not much opportunities to train, and i was the only guy left with 2 girls. PAISEH SIA! Well, managed to show instructor i could do it, and i was allowed to proceed to roundabout.

Tip:Use your rear brakes with 70% vs front brakes 30%. It allows you to come to a stop very easily. Also, you have to only put left leg down.'

Roundabout was pretty fun, get to know and feel the throttle and sounds. My main problem was throttling. I either throttle too much, or throttle nothing at all. Besides that, the roundabout is kinda like just a turn-turn and turn course.

Hahaha i rmmbered a point where i accidentally rev to 7k, kinda like 2 metres more and will crash to a girl who dropped. Lucky that i managed to manoeuvre and went back to the advised rpm. I kinda learned how to shift gears too. But time's up and so only had like 3min of gear shifting fun? Hehehe

I failed my class 2b evaluation 8 times! Do not feel dishearten when the instructors failed you.

When you got your first bike, always ride with care. Sometimes I see group of p-plater racing with each other. It is very dangerous as you may not have the experiences in anticipating dangers.

I met two accidents in my class 2b. One minor and one i injuried my right leg. Both not my fault as both drivers admitted they failed to see me.

Once you got your first bike, ride safe.

Keep it up, even though i failed the first prac last time and stopped for 9mths straight and only went back when 1 of my friend wanted to learn and asked me to join him back.

From then, i failed and even slower than my friend's progress, but i just tell myself to try my best, and after 4 mths i went for my first TP but sadly i failed, wait for another 2 mths and i got my 2b, and it have been almost 3years.

My friend still didn't get his 2b even till now

if you accidentally rev too much just clutch in. remember, clutch in disengage the gear from the engine. you can rev up to 1 million rpm the bike will still coast to a stop ah.

nabil sugarboy! good luck for tomorrow. remember to look up and ahead and not down. imagine if you are trying to balance a ruler vertically using your finger. if you look at the point where the ruler touches your finger its much harder to keep it balanced compared to if you look at the top of the ruler. same principle applies.

Lesson 1(b): S$23.54(off-peak)FAILED

Thank God that weather was on my side today. My lesson was at 12.45pm!

Moving on from what I had learnt:

a) Gear shifting from 1-3, and back from 3-1, then to a stop.

Well, I had quite alot of trouble, since i had very little knowledge and experience on gearshifting. In malaysia, the kups gearshift AUTOMATIC!

hahahah. Anw, i kinda took it slow, till i got the hang of it. So what's the correct procedure?

Move off(Half clutch)>gear up>gear up>instructor ask u stop next round>apply more rear brake than front brake, gear down all the way>come to a perfect stop only with left leg down. Note: APPLY CLUTCH AND FRONT BRAKE EVEN AFTER STOPPING. They're particular about that.

b) Braking at low speed. Gearshifting from 1-5, and back from 5-1, stop(braking at high speed).

This was one of the fun subjects. I had quite a trouble with low speed braking, since low speed and me don't go well together :cheeky:

But for gearshift 1-5, fuhhhh! FUN LAH SEHH! Negotiate sharp bends at gear 3 BTW! Then when pass yellow line, apply brakes, clutch in, kick down to gear 1, stop. Well, i must say i really love high speed braking.

c) Gear shifting to negotiate bends/dangers.

Now, no more braking to a stop! It's all the way gear 3 to 5, back to 3, to 5.

Even more shiok, wind blowing on my face.... The exhaust fumes... :p

Shifting from 5 to 3 is quite easy: Brakes>clutch and gear down twice>release clutch to apply engine braking>release brakes>throttle.

d) Sort-of figure 8

This was i guess, the killer. U have to be in gear 2 throughout the course, until the cone where if there're bikes coming in ur way, geardown to 1, stop. Check blindspot again, and proceed with the u-turn.

Well, it was quite tough for me, since my engine stalled twice during the evaluation round! First while moving off, second when about to stop cuz there're other bikes coming. What happened?

Taking off, released clutch too sudden. Stall.

Through the course, i forgot to maintain proper eyeline; i think that's part of the reason i failed.

About to reach cone, saw other bikes coming, kanchiong to stop. Engine stalled. Start bike up, moving off to park the bike(supposed to park bike after the round), got in the way of another bike, cuz i dint check blindspot. I'm sorry dude, it was ur first lesson, and i had to cock it up for u :dozed:

Well, these are the parts where i think caused my failure.

But im sure i can do it the next time round which is this tuesday!

AND WAIT, I FORGOT TO SAY, the u-turn was the most fun, since i was like cornering. AHAHAHA.

Well, just unsatisfied i went off with a fail. But that ain't stopping me from getting my license ASAP! HAHAHAHA

Will update u guys again!

Damn thorough. Sometimes I wonder did I learn as much as you. Haha.

The "sort of figure 8" thing... where we had to stop and check for incoming bikes... I can't make the "u-turn". I made a really wide turn cuz I was afraid to fall, afraid to lean my body with the bike.

You managed to turn properly? Good for ya! Thumbs up!

The bike will only fall if it has no speed. The way to avoid this is to throttle more around the bend (this will be scary). To avoid going too fast, apply the footbrake. Constant throttle + footbrake is necessary for stability through all low speed narrow turns and narrow courses.
