2 way is better. instant feedback of the bike status if ure within range.

my worry is the electrical aspect of it. eg. short circuiting when wet or interference with current immobiliser. some bike's electrical system is so fragile.

anyone with alarm systems on bikes?

M using a 2 way alarm , so far no problem wif it . :p

1. which brand?

Scorpio ir 500

2. who did the installation?

Done at motoworld

3. does it void your bike's warranty?

Not sure if voids warranty , but installation involves connect the harness to the relevant wires

4. over time, do you notice a drain on the battery?

Initially tot the alarm had a drain on the batt , but done a check at HL , its minimal , but have been using the perimeter sensor onli when parked at ulu area juz to play safe .

5. what is the range of the remote & does the alarm come with an immobiliser and remote starter also?

Not sure abt range , maybe arnd 150m ? Can activate the alarm at 20th storey if bike parked juz below the blk , too many obstacles n the remote wun reach . It doesnt have a remote starter . Not sure abt immobiliser as the wirings is not connected the the ignition . But any tampering wif the wiring will result in the alarm beeping every min of riding .

Holy crap!!

all up $540?

does this include installation?

i had a 2 way paging alarm for the car before with remote starter, bonnet, boot, door, window sides, windscreens sensors, 2 extra immobilisers, one for ignition and one for fuel cut, temp. monitor(turns on car & aircon if it hits a certain temp eg. 35 degrees) plus gps tracking. all up with installation was $900 or so.

compared to the scorpio, i think the scorpio is costly for basic siren/alert features.

did u come up with other alternatives?

basically, u need the alarm to scare of potential thieves & itchy fingers from touching the bike. but if the guy persists, you need an immobiliser to actually stop him from riding off so easily. but sadly, it just takes 2 guys to lift the front end off the ground, mount it on to a trolley and push the bike away.

oh well, we can only do so much.......

Alternatively you can look into Steelmate or Spy alarms which are in the sub-200 price range.

They have 2-way alarm, remote start, and vibration sensor. Not feature-packed but can do what they are built to do: to deter dudes with itchy hands :D

Ya , quite costly , but i liked its portability . Can juz unplug from bike n install on another bike easily . So far , my bike has not been harassed like it used to be b4 the alarm was installed . Cos prior to installation , had cases of the yamaha logo almost being peeled off . Bike on side stand when i had initially parked on main stand , etc .

So far the onli complaint i have is the batt life of the remote . Once forgot to switch off the remote n had the internal batt draining off as i had not ridden my bike for a week . In the end , couldnt disarm my bike n had to charge the remote n take a taxi to work .

sometimes it's really amazing how manufacturers take a step back regarding product designs. The first version of the Scorpio 2way alarm allows the use of AAA sized battery instead of the newer model 'rechargeable battery'. I have experienced many times where my AAA battery died on me when i was about to disarm the alarm. All i had to do is to change the battery and all is well. I cannot imagine how one is supposed to charge the remote sensor when one is out with a dead rechargeable battery.

then u turn up silently and spank the guy silly.

Besides the alarm, don't forget the other security measures.

Namely....

1) Disc brake lock

2) Bike Cover, tied up tightly

3) Removing your headlight protectors when you park for the night ;)

4) If you have a box with the "handles", then stick a thick padlock on it for extra security.

True there's only so much you can do. But do what you can to make the job sufficiently difficult that they will consider stealing off someone else's bike instead! :D

tyres also depends what kind right.

19" falken azenis can start at $850 each.

anyway, im not splitting hairs now but for the alarms

one has significantly less features that does not equate value in price

how not to compare

at the end of the day it still comes from my pocket right?:o

Have to disagree with this. Better if the alarm is loud cos in most cases, u'll be out of the frequency and your remote won't beep. So the sound will not only act as a deterent, it could also catch the attention of bystanders who may help nab and/or give discreptions of the low life.
