LOL. I know, so I'll just say it out and up front.

After riding it for 1.5 years, here's what I think about our good ol' FZ1 Gen 2.

- Lazy engine. Not responsive enough

- Sluggish acceleration for a litre bike

- Engine response gets worse once the bike is hot

- Bike struggles to breathe, airbox too constricted.. needs modding

- Crappy rear shock. No compression damping settings

- Rear Shock sags and gets soft real fast

- Slow turn in, slow to steer

- Stock brakes suck, no bite no feel

- Lousy fuel consumption for a non-sportbike

- Mirrors get loose after a while, especially if pushed up or down for parking often

hmm.. agree wit some.. after 2.5yrs on a Gen2, my .02 cents

- Lazy engine. Not responsive enough - really? found it pretty good...

- Sluggish acceleration for a litre bike - I hit nearly 100km/h in 2nd gear..ok wat..

- Engine response gets worse once the bike is hot - actually found it respond better..

- Bike struggles to breathe, airbox too constricted.. needs modding - i jus changed air filters n re-tuned it.. can't expect much for naked..unless u put in tubes to make an air ram..

- Crappy rear shock. No compression damping settings - agree

- Rear Shock sags and gets soft real fast - agree

- Slow turn in, slow to steer - agree, front end too lite but again.. naked bike..

- Stock brakes suck, no bite no feel - felt fine for stock..

- Lousy fuel consumption for a non-sportbike - 17 to 18km/L seems kinda standard leh..

- Mirrors get loose after a while, especially if pushed up or down for parking often - well..for Gen 2 every plastic thing will either get loose or break off..:D (but i dunt really care :p )

BTW, what bike are comparing these things against? :cheeky:

Haha. Just a general feeling and expectations for the Gen2.

I used to ride an R1, FZS600 before this, so I'm lumping the 2 together to make a general ride comparison.

Engine taken from the R1, slightly retuned and with a slightly heavier crank. But it spools up slow la. Power is there. It's the responsiveness that I don't like. Sluggish. It needs to spin/build up rpm and power faster.

Gen 1 had fully adjustable rear shocks.

I was rudely surprised at the budget option for the Gen 2. This is actually my biggest disappointment about the bike.

Slow turn in can be fixed la. Best option is to change the rear to a 190/55 and drop the fork 10mm to 15mm. Works like a charm.

Maybe I came off radial calipers and master cylinders, so I feel that the FZ1's MC and brakes lack the one finger ability. So that's probably personal. :p

The R1 got 250km to reserve under the same street riding that I gave the FZ1. They have the same engine, and the FZ1 is supposed to be detuned to be more civilized, so the increased fuel consumption is also a surprise.

yamaha tenere 1200

haha makes me drool...

Tenere is a desert name.

Looks like a desert designed bike.

Spoke and tube tyre are well known for hard cord terrain.

Tyre pressure can be reduced to sail on soft sand.

Direct link rear shock and puny joint link is suited for desert used.

Why a top heavy desert bike?

How to compete wit GS in bike design?

Cup vs Injection

haiya..R1 + FZ6 u compare any other bike oso siong leh! :faint:

dunno lar.. I feel every bike has it's character so wanting it to behave like another bike isn't very fair. :cheeky:

Can la. R1 and FZ1 using same engine, so while the FZ1 is softer, it should not be so far behind. I find the FZ1 a little bit sluggish. Like I said... personal opinion. :D

But most important is ride quality. The FZ1 front end is OK, after a bit of adjustment. But riding it hard, I find that it wobbles a fair bit in corners and coming out.

It's a good bike overall. It just falls a bit short.

That's why I'm still keeping it. Otherwise it would have ended up on Garage Sale already. Just like my Thundercat FZS6 :p :P

yea..da conering bit cannot be helped cos of the CG n liteness of the frnt end.. I find shifting ur weight a bit forwards helps..corner like sport bike n it wobbles.

miss being able to drop 2 grs into a corner :angel:now must corner slow n steady

but by adding the damper will it better the steering condition ?

A steering damper helps in reducing tank slappers. Useful for high speed runs and some bumpy corner situations. But it won't quicken the steering of a bike. That's up to the rake/trail of the forks and the wheelbase.

The FZ1's wheelbase is not the most compact. But we can play around with the weight distribution by dropping the front down the fork a bit. Makes it easier to tip it in.

Try dropping your triple clamp through the forks by about 10mm la. It will help somewhat.

Haha. I took the short cut.

Sell R1 and get the naked R1 = FZ1. :p

So far so good, except with those minor complaints.

Some can be fixed.... but comes with price.

I want freebies!! Anyone can give me his Ohlins or Penske? :p
