I did my de-cat at Bikeworkz at Shun Li Ind Est for $50/-. U can feel the engine have slightly more power when u open throttle. So far I did all my mods & servicings there.Look for Ah Beng.

So far, I did some surey on my own on tyres too. I intend to change to Pilot Road 2 or Angel ST when my stock tyres wear out. Both are sport touring tyres with very good reviews. Both are also long lasting and very grippy in dry & wets too.

Hey Superspeed:

Do they drill the cat out or cut the midpipe then weld a hollow tube back? $50 sounds like just drilling. Thx.

Hey Charles... you were starting to tell me about your experience with 'angel eye' lights yesterday, when we went off onto some other topic. Care to give me the heads up here? :)

They use a sharp tool and knock at the honeycomb and slowly take out a bit at a time until all the honeycomb is out from the midpipe. No cutting or welding of pipe needed. No joke, hard work. I witnessed the whole process and nearly took 1 hour.

stanco is Jason, gwzc_mk2 is Derick (1 'r' right?), so u r Leong? :D

anyway, angel eye topic... little sharing session... :)

previously dragonforce and myself are discussing on this actually...

but it was put off due to the hassle that it may creates as well as the tools & equipment that we can grab hold...

basically there are three types of angel eyes, one is projector lamp casing with the angel halo over it, the other is using neon light loop, last kind is using led strips...

neon light loops also comes in two types, one is normal neon lamp, the other is using CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamps)...

projector lamp casing...

this type of mod allows you to replace your current light bulbs into projector lights with additional angel eye over it...

it sure do looks very nice but you have to cut your casing and mod & fit this in...

be sure to cut at the exact diameter and have proper sealant over the edge...

http://kereta.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/projector-led-angel-eyes-headlamp-ccfl-ring.jpg

neon light loops...

easier than projector lamp casing but you need to have a oven to help to pry the clear case open from the back case and fit this in, before you seal it back nicely...

normal neon lamp...

also used with PC towers fans...

http://image.made-in-china.com/4f0j00ECvaRrjLsuqb/CCFL-Angel-Eyes.jpg

CCFL neon lamp...

it's better compared to normal neon light loops... it's thicker and it has its own balast...

led strips...

u know la... no need to explain any further...

all of the above, make sure u do it in a low or no humidity area and make sure you do proper cleaning up process of the internal of your headlight casing before you fit it back...

something like this la... my 0.0000000002 cent worth... :)

ooooo.. who's interested in angel eyes this time?

i haven really given up this project yet.. but i wont 'operate' on my headlights. if i can get spare ones, i will still do it.

the projectors + angel eyes will be the best. looks the most natural, with improved lighting (esp if you use HID on the projectors, light throw is controlled, actually HID supposed to only fit on projectors for bikes as the stock reflectors will throw the light everywhere, irritating every1 in front of you)

all the below, not really worth it for me to open up the headlights, IMHO:

the ccfl neon tubes, actually those thin tubes can get from pc case modding shops. but i think its too thin. the thicker ones are ok.

'led' angel eyes with acrylic loops, still ok...

pure led angel eyes, i wont even bother.

the most difficult part of the mod is to heat up the headlight assembly, peel it off and fitting everything back once you installed the projector lights.

other things to note is:

led angel eye cannot make it la cus the light displayed is cut off into breaks...

neon thin tubes cannot make it too cus it's not obvious to be seen... i'm pretty sure whoever wish to do this expects it to be seen clearly...

ccfl neon tubes are better selection but of cus projector ones are the best la...

but one thing to note for projector ones is its placement we well as the correct angle blah blah blah... a lot of factors... it's not just cut and fit and done thingy...

cheers! :)

Thanks for the explanations. I guess until now I'd only considered the LED type - either with or without the acrylic hoops. Would even consider an LED strip if the LEDs were close together and bright enough to hide the 'breaks' from a distance.

I like the shape of the FZ1's headlights (like a rounded rectangle instead of a perfect circle), and I'd like the angel eyes to follow this shape. More unique and distinctive than round ones, IMO.

Yeah, too much danger of screwing up and having to get a new pair of headlights. I guess this is true for the other variants as well, cos they all go inside the headlamp casing. But it's something I'm really very keen on... would like to explore a bit.
