got back from a petrol run. could hit 200 before running out of road on the bridge. Could tell that the engine was willing to be coaxed into giving more if given more time. needless to say, pickup is really slow compared to a Cb400 and Cbr1000. but knowing that the engine is capable of more makes me happy.

It's a used bike I assume? The FZ's pickup should be way way quicker than a CB400. 0-100 for all literbikes are comparable. Of course, after 130 or 140, the CBR1000 will pull away.

What's your mileage? If it's above 60K or 100K, check with the previous owner if you've done a valve clearance.

I just did mine. The bike feels brand new again, and not sluggish like it was before. Even after 2 years, the bike will begin to feel sluggish due to the throttle body being out of sync, valve out of clearance, injectors getting dirty, etc etc.

One trip to Racewerk to do VULVA clearance, sync throttle bodies and ths ASNU injector cleaning and I'm smiling as I ride my bike again. Oh yeah.... also knocked the cat out of the hole. :p

hey astrorion,

i'm not sure how much is the fuel tank for S4 but roughly we know a full tank for S4 can go up to 300++km to 400km (according to my buddy's S4)...

i'm not sure about fz8 but for fz1, the FC is like 11.5km/L to 15km/L depending on how you ride and the fuel tank for fz1 is 18L...

little note for ya, for the power you get, you will tend to lose other things e.g FC blah blah blah... everything is fair in the world i would say...

for servicing cost, fz1 is slightly higher than S4 only for general items...

hope these helps... good luck in your sourcing for a new bike! :)

Ok thanks, So Fz1 will not reach 300km b4 you need to top up with the cursing speed? Any recommend shop which i can approach for a new fazer?

yup... u jus do a bit of the calculation base on the FC i mentioned can already... :)

for high speed riding or touring, i ever hit around 10km/L before... :faint:

for shops to approach, try going to those reputable shops... to each differ... :D

That's what I want to know myself. Mine is a carburator model, mind you. Just serviced the carburator, and already feels much better than when I just took it out of the shop.

Granted the valves probably do need replacement, being almost 6 years old after all.

All in due time.

Valves may not necessarily need replacing - just check and adjust the valve clearance for a start (of course, ask them to replace anything that looks in need of it). I got mine done at Sporting Motors for $150, including valve clearance and carb sync, but no other parts. And as D.E.M. said, the bike feels brand new again!

Long story short, if your litre bike's pickup is slower than a CB400, you know something is definitely wrong.

Wow. That is much much cheaper than what I was expecting.

I asked around at my motorist, and they quoted 500 dolls for replacement of valve washers and piston rings. should I go for that while i am still under free service warranty?

Anyway, when I say I can't keep up with a super four, he had a head start. And I felt like i I was slow since I can't overtake him. As a benchmark, how fast should a FZ s1000 hit 100kmh from standstill?

I think its because of all the boxes you have adding weight and wind resistance, reducing your fuel consumption.

I don't think anyone would want to maintain a high rev during a tour.

Can't comment on that, I've never got a quote for any parts replacement. But check at Sporting and see what they quote you - at least you'll have a figure to go by. I'm assuming your quote includes all labour for valve clearance and carb sync as well...?

I think perhaps people just have different perceptions of how high is "high" :D

Once you're on the open highway, you either need a lot of will power to stay around the 100-120km/hr level (i.e. not high rev) or you need a super tall 7th gear to keep the revs low while still cruising in the 150-200km/hr range

Eh. No service charge, since I am still under service warranty.

Was thinking that a major factor is user error. I have been using this bike for less then a week.

Cruising at rpm 6k-7k not enough meh?

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

i personally tried on my stock fz1 before, it's between 3-5 sec to hit 100km/hr...

gear 1 till 10k rpm till be able to bring you to around 80+km/hr or 90+km/hr, gear 2 till 10k rpm should hit around 120+ km/hr or 130+ km/hr, gear 3 till 10k rpm should hit around 150+ km/hr or 160+ km/hr, if i didn't rem wrongly cus i only tried that on the 2nd day when i got my bike... lol...

I think its because of all the boxes you have adding weight and wind resistance, reducing your fuel consumption.

I don't think anyone would want to maintain a high rev during a tour.

not really la... i see a differ in this... at that time i only got my side panniers with no top box... anyway, how can a pair of side panniers be able to bring your FC down from 11.5km/L to 10km/L?

Cruising at rpm 6k-7k not enough meh?

for me, cruising most comfortable range is around 5k rpm... :)
