Hi - Can anyone help me with info on where to buy ice (the frozen water kind) on the NSH.

Planning to ride up to Thailand in the summer. Leaving in the morning from GP and need a bag of ice to cool off in the afternoon - so am looking to buy a bag of ice somewhere after KL - in the Rawang R&R to Gurun R&R stretch ,headed north.

Tried looking for ice in Esso & Petronas stations at GP in the hope that the petrol station shops would have bags of ice - no luck :(

Many thanks in advance!

try the drink stores in the RnR ?

The only reason why I'm not laughing with you is that I prefer laughing at you.

Garfield,

1. Besides water, you need to take some iso-tonic drinks / salt in-take (if you are taking meal breaks) along the way. Your body lose salt as you perspires. You will experience muscle cramp when your body is low on salt.

2. Try freezing a bag of water (maybe half to 3 quarter of the volume of your water bag) into ice and place it in your bladder of the water bag. If there is no ice along the way, top up your water with the chilled drinking water that you buy.

2. Use the log card with your name on it. Else, Thailand custom is not going to process your vehicle import papers. RM2 to be given to the guy that stamps your passport if you are entering at Sadao boarder.

Have fun on your ride.

Tried a couple of drink stores at a couple of R&Rs - no luck :(

Importantly though, shops by the Thai highways - at petrol kiosks or small towns, seem to be well stocked with ice. I needed it most there!

It also helps if one has a well insulated container (Polar Bear rocks!!!) It kept ice frozen for over 24 hours - of which 10 hours were on the road, under the sun!!!
