Newbie: Pls help! Krr zx-150 Would like to know if $1000 can be bought?

Hi ladies/ gentleman,

I just passed my license, I see many Krr selling for 1k to 1.5k, 1-2 years COE left but I wonder does it make it more accident prone? Like some people say sure got problem must maintain a lot. I'm only going to ride it for 1 year and going to persue a class 2A bike because I was inspired by a very beautiful golden hair lady.

Hope you guys can help me with my dreams by teaching me how to choose a good Krr to survive this year first. I have already tried to do a search on Kawasaki but I couldn't find a thread on prices and machine functionality. Also this bike would help me with my delivery job part time to earn some income. Some may ask why not choose a kup kia or cruiser since delivery job but hope to tell you guys that Krr 150 means a lot to me and this is the bike I hope to use as my starting bike.

Thank you all for helping.

8-9 years old, 2 stroker, good luck to you.

i had a 7years nsr sp, spend over 2k just fixing it for the 1 yr i own it. fixed slanted rear hub, 428 conversion, oem cdi, etc..

in essence, depends on your luck, previous owner is caring then good for you. If he's not, then good luck to you.

since you make known your insistance in getting a krr, let me tell you the typical problems you might notice,

1) start engine, clutch in got a tat tat tat sound, clutch plate rubber mounts loose

2) white smoke is normal, from the 2T, but no matter what it shouldnt reach the stage where its dripping from the endcan.

3) brakes. try engaging it, spongy feeling means air bubbles, easy fix

4) compress the forks with body weight, check for leaks, leaks = big problem.

5) ask to view cold bike, dont start it about 4hrs before your viewing, when reach try see if the engine is warm. as owner to start.

6) starts on 1-2 kicks, 3 max, means crank should be okay. more than that walk away

7) rotate throttle and let go, if it sticks it wont roll back. easy fix

There's a tonne of things to check if you want. MY advice is damn simple:

1) bring a krr experienced friend to go down for viewing

2) if your friend say should be okay, tell the owner to go for full servicing, buyer pay.

3) at trusted mech, ask mech to check everything during full service, if he gives thumbs up then go ahead,

4) if your friend, or the mech, or the owner says no to anything one of it, walk away

unless the owner has some problems to hide, he shouldnt have a problem with a free full service, for the bike to be checked out by your trusted mech.

Do note, im asking you to pay for full servicing so you can be full aware of any problems that might exist, it is a safeguard measure for yourself. do not be unreasonable and ask for a payment by the owner if you back out from buying in the end. IT IS A measure you choose to take, to cover yourself.

Go to a trusted bikeshop and survey, dont rush through your purchase. Most importantly dont get carrot up.

Dont think theres a law whereby you can get a refund if you faces any problems with the bike which you have just bought. Which bikeshop that offers the $500 rr? Would like to know too.

simply said, in business, no one is to be trusted. no offense to anyone. bikeshop might give you some sort of warranty, but whether they adhere to the terms is a different story.

example, you buy the krr, shop give warranty for 3 months, if engine down, say piston or smth have problem, bike shop can always say your riding is what created the problem, therefore not under warranty..

my advise to you is, if you trust the shop, buy 2nd hand from shop, if you trust seller, buy direct. for me personally i buy from seller cause its cheaper, and i'll do the full servicing at a trusted mech so that he can double confirm the condition of the bike for me before purchase.

sharkboy is right, first and foremost, if you rush into it, you'll regret it, secondly zalk no offense, but lemon law doesnt apply. simply said, trust no one, do your research, checks and all. in the end, the person that loses out is you.

for the 1yr old krr, who told you seller ride to shop, theres always towing services.

also, there's no one week/one month refund policy, hell even if warranty is given, you should practice caution. that being said, there's of course good deals you can find if you know what to check and what to look for.

let me put this to you in layman terms, once you decide to buy the bike, be it seller or shop, its yours, problems that came along with it yours too. dont believe everything thats said.

thats why i said get a trusted mech to check it out. firstly, you dont have enough experience to tell if a bike is in fine running condition. secondly just dont trust anyone who's selling you the bike, conflict of interest there. a trusted mech is not the one selling you the bike, so he can give you a very factual opinion of it. if you need one i can recommend a shop. if you prefer to talk to someone prior to buying i'm free for kopi provided youre buying. hahhaa..

Lemon Law... It came out a month after i bought my bike... really kick myself hard. Cos my bike had a lot of problems... but after $2k spent, now ok liao... love it...

Lemon law applies because it deals with the contractual terms. If they promise you to give you a working, road-safe bike, but when you get your bike and its fork seals leaking, brake pump spoil etc, it's not road-worthy and lemon law can be invoked. But, it'll take time, quite a bit of time. And you must have black and white in absolute clear terms.

RIDE.

Thats why we advise you to go to a trusted bikeshop. Theres plenty of thread here which talks about bikeshop that are "good" and "not so good", thus you shall conclude which one is the most suitable for you. Lastly since you have no friends to accompany you go for recce, then make friends.

Thank you everyone for your help. I need to renew Coe for my Krr end of this year. Left 10 year Coe a bit hard to sell...

How much did you bought the bike for? From shop or owner?

if few hundred dollars still can buy lah, spare some $$ for repair & replace..kr is an old bike liao, somemore 2 stroke, more or less a lot of wear & tear already. seller can tell you he changed this and that, but after you bought the bike, you might realised more things need to replace or repair.

I rather buy a cheap kr and spend $$ for the replace/repair than buy an expensive kr which might also need to spend $$ to replace/repair.

End of story if u r buying this kind of bikes that are so called "old" u must have ready cash to repair in the event anything fails u. Otherwise u r just paying to park the bike in your Carpark... Can see cannot ride.

Hi guys got my bike at $1000sgd, half year coe. Renewed it. So far i have changed. Rear disc brake, bridgestone tyres $230, Unclog power valve $60, Caburetor $225, unblock front brake. change sproket from 38 to 39, change the cub kia scooter rear light system to look new$30. Chnage suspension from cheong to old original $80. Clutch line. All done at planet motor. Spent about close to 600 to 700 in these few months. but good news it that fuel consumption rise from 20kmpl to 30kmpl and top speed no longer stuck at 140....but 10 year old bike even if can clear meter best is don't do such thing. Anyway learnt a lot, many things could have lived with it. but change would make it better. Now can feel moving off cannot accelerate fast need to do good clutch control den release but after move off everything is ok. not sure why lidat though. But uncle cheong say fuel saving is like that. I'm gonna decarbonise my exhaust pipe at JB to try if not i wont turn on more fuel tap as 30km/l is what i wanted and i will live with that slightly slower acceleration. Anyone with 30kmpl fuel consumption care to share their experience on this moving off part?
