If you bought a $5000-$10,000+ watch, would you put it in that generic watch case?

I'd buy a proper winder and display shelf for it.

ummm.... actually Neo, just to let you know that some people (like myself) do literally throw my $5k - $10k watch in my drawer even without a case. mostly i use them for rough wear like riding bike, washing car, gardening, tennis etc....

I have proper watch storage cases but they are big and heavy. I keep most of my watches in a plastic drawer case bought at Daiso for $2

My first "proper" watch, bought in 1989 when I was 17 too.

Wow, 20 years ago... It is still running now, every 3~4 years require a fresh battery. Very reliable and rugged watch.

Stick with the Seiko at least it is a thoroughbred and really, drop the City Chain thoughts unless you are 16 yrs old. The money you save from not buying those can do better things.

Consider saving more and getting a basic good watch than to buy many half past six ones (like Cyma).

Noting that a basic good watch (timeless design, top class quality, renown brand) will cost more than a few grand, it is also good enough for a lifetime of usage.

My most honest , frank opinion with no malice.

I agree with throttle, if your target is XXX (insert your dream watch here)watch and you know you will buy it eventually. Resist the temptations of buying “filler watch/es”.

Stay focus, XXX watch or no watch. That way, you will spend less and get your dream watch faster :thirsty:

Hi throttle, been thinking about watches since like 1yr back.

Almost put my mind into breitling (there are some 2nd hand superocean pro, $1.5K to 1.9K in the forum) but recently this thread and sg-roc made me pull back and thinking again whether i should save more and get a rolex.

Meanwhile, to fill in the gap, i got myself a new seiko black monster. nice watch, should be able to last me years. I can afford to wait and save now with this filler watch heh.

Now, any chance to get yr 2000+ (P series onwards) Sub-date around $5K?

i have seen those shops were they partition their shop space and allow small time biz to display their goods, a few was selling their watch winder and watch display case. heard from the boss its made in taiwan..

what do you guys think of those?

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

how much are they selling the winder each, are they single or dual winder?

i read around in forums that purchasing them online are generally better/cheaper .

hmm.. they come in single, dual, 3, 6s.. some purely watch winder.. some includes some storage for the watch..

not sure if online is cheaper.. i saw in forum some1 is selling, the price he selling is there about what the small shop is selling.

If you have budget for a cyma, try going for Fortis or Armand Nicolet instead. It's a much appreciated brand IMO. There are in the 1 to 4K range, depending on what you like...

Try to avoid winders with dual mounts on each rotor. Those tends to break down very easily (unless you are talking about the wolf designs or equivalent grade winders)

The best would be those single rotor for single watch mount. Less stressing on the rotor and last longer. I have 5 winders, only 1 surviving well and 2 barely making it. The first to go is the biggest 2 x dual mount winder with a 5 pockets drawer. Piece of crap at $300.

hm. those dual mount on each rotor you are referring to looks like this?

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f128/inflames85/2watchwinder.jpg

i am very tempted to purchase something like these.. the 'piece of crap' you bought, is it those made in taiwan watch winders? i have seen some for sale at hwz and vr-zone forums. 4+6 winder is about $300+. i have 4 automatic watches.. hope to get something that winds 3 of them while 1 is on my wrist..

any advise?

Yes, these kind of winders, unless its made by reputable brands, then it's reliable. Else you have an issue about weight management. Dump a big chunk watch such as breitlings, grahams beside a weasy boysize datejust, you start hearing clicking sounds whenever the heavy watch rolls to the top 12clock and then falls over. Soon, it fails to pull up at 6clock.

The one shown in the pic seems like a good build quality winder. Avoid those china/taiwan made.

Regards,

Andy
