My friend told me a story. He was fetching his ang mo client from USA from airport to his hotel by hiring a taxi. On the way they met a long traffic jam. And the Ang mo start to ask

Ang mo: I heard that Singapore cars is double the price of a car in US? Why are there still so many cars around? Singaporean must be working very hard to be so rich? Singapore is so small do they really need a car? And the all the cars I notices looks very new!

My friend : Maybe or maybe is the peak hour so you see much more cars on the road. They are rushing for work!

Taxi drivers : Nope. I know the answer. The reason is Singaporean work very hard to earn themself a car so that they can join the jam in the expressway.

Don't you agree?

You are blur, when I say I am blurr.

Well .. the mentally here in Singapore as compare to US counterpart I guess is very much different.

I found that our US counterpart is mostly more practical, for example - Handphone, they just buy a HP that suits their needs - making calls. No fancy feature or whatever.

For car .. they basically looking at cars that could transport them from point A to point B. No much fancy car or whatever.

For here .. I dont say we dont have practical pple. But mainly because to many, car is like a must have after u start work but in fact no necessary. It is like the pple have u must have mentally.

Essentially, there are folks as per discuss in this thread that because the urge to own a car, adopted a buy first think later mentally ....

As for the reason for why so many new cars is that gahment kept changing policy and so in these 2 year alone, there are a fanzy purchase of new car. Moreover, it is more expensive to keep car more than 10 years.

Where else in europe or US, u could keep as long as u like and car is way too cheap to buy except the petrol is skyrocketing in US.

The truth is sad, and we really need to educate the youth. I am glad that I mixed with the right crowd when I was younger (special :thumb: to throttle, someone who teaches by example).

Just look at the youngsters today. How many of them know that they are digging their own graves when they signed on that dotting line for a bike / car loan?

Haha, you caught me before I could edit my post. I am basically very disturbed by how the so-called scholars and "future leaders" think. (Pretty pissed off by those girls too...)

well ... this is the generation brought up thru the huge influence by our gov concept of elites leads.

I do admits I have some doubts and disturbed too by those so-call "scholars" with no real life working experience in corporate. Staying in gov lines for years to come.

But dat doesnt mean all scholars are bad. There are a handful that is good.

This is the generation where u see folks got bankrupt before they step into the working society.

The case of over spending their "future" $$$

The case of trying lucks in stocks using parents or even friends $$$ and could lose like 10k overnite - (wonder where they got such $$$ to lose)

The case of sucking parents dry, being a leech, work to get $$$ for themselves only and STILL GOT CHEEKS TO ASK FOR MORE FROM PARENTS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE LIKE ABOVE 25 !!!!

Goosh ... this Singapore is getting unthinking and kids are too pamper ... I mean the generation also includes mine generation.

It is always good to have a elder brother who are mature enough to guide or gives tips or advices to one.

I would also consider fortunate as I got my elder brother and sister to give advise to me. Fortunately also... i listen to some of their advise and I also stubborn and got hit into a "wall"

Sad but True facts happening in Singapore....

When i was abroad, Most of my frens there break away from their parents after their education and move either to another state or stay by themselves fully independent by the age as early as 18 years old...

My point of view is that younger Singaporeans are living in a very good and pampered society and not knowing it thus complaining that is it never enough cos they are craving for the luxury items (eg cars) and get themselves into sh*t thereafter blaming the soceity for expensive standard of living.... Wait till they actually stay overseas and expereince the life abroad... Then will realise how lucky we are....

It is normal ....

Gone are the days that when you got punish by teacher, u dont even tell ur parents cause they will say " SERVE U RIGHT " then add some more punishment.

So guai guai ... suffer in silence.

Now ... havent touch the kids ... they cry father .... cry mother .. the next thing u know, parent came and start threaten to sue u and blah blah blah ....

Then again ... what goes around comes around. When a kid too pamper ... when they grow up, they wont know what is suffering, what is hardwork and blah blah ....

These generation grew up to be the pest of the family, the scum of the society. Only will stay home idle, shake leg then stick out hand demanding $$$ from parents ...

Parent then start complain ... but all too late ... thats how they grew up.

Even though I dont have the kid yet ... I dont wish this to happen. I cant say muchie about it but then ... guess a person let a lot a kid shouldnt be pamper too much. But most parents doesnt think that way ....

I still remember the days when I didn't dare to tell my mom that I got punished by my teacher. My mom will call the teacher and if she finds out that it's my fault, that's it for me! :giddy: Cane + allowance cut ($1 a day).

Kids nowadays are too pampered. They take everything for granted. They complain about anything and everything that doesn't go their way.

Why do I sound so old...

you sound old becos , you are seeing more and learning more, rhema.

many singapore kids dont have chance to "go out" alone. they just act tough and have loads of ego, thats all. you can still see plenty of such kids around mohd sultan, zouk area. ungracious, impolite and rude.

this applies to all classes of the society... at the end of the day it boils down to upbringing...

There are pple who join the society, see these, learn and getting more mature, practical

But there are those who refused to learn and still take things for granted .... they refused mainly because they are selfish bunch of pple and in Singapore, there are many many ....

For me ... I follow one of my principal I learn from Army....

"Everything is a privilege, not an entitlement"

U dont realli sound old .... just think in this way, you are more mature now.

:thumb:

And I do agree with Throttle that pple behaviour boils down to upbringing.

But there is other factor too - environment of upbringing and also individual unique character.

Some dont have good or strict parents, but it is their character that they tends to be more courteous or whatever ....
