I foresee CB400X and F getting more popular. The bikes parallel twin engine suits sg roads well.At least you no need to rev hard to get more pick up compared to 400cc inline 4,This new 400cc already got the low/mid torque on low rpms. Those still wanna mid/top range can stick to super 4 or CBR.Setbacks are gugu sound when idling compared to inline 4s and of course inline 4s higher speed is better than this.Hmm I was hoping Suzuki coming out with new Gladius 400 V Twin engine.

Hmm.. does parallel twin engine is more "harsher" for the engine oil?

Be happy always :-)

Are you guys serious when you say Super 4 doesn't have low end pickup? I have never ridden a 400CC but I know for sure, it has enough pickup for Singapore roads. If the ride decides to twist the throttle hard at the signal it should be able to take off. Its a 400CC for heavens sake.If still pickup not enough, alter the sprocket ratio put a larger sprocket in the back or a smaller sprocket in the front and you get even more pickup.

super4 has lesser torque at low RPM, just have to rev to around 6000rpm which is less fuel efficient so you will burn more petrol.

i think different engine designed for different bikes and for different set up.

The only similarity is in the 400cc...

There are single cylinder, two cylinder, three cylinder, four cylinder engines, Vtwins, boxer type and so on....

each engines all designed separately for different end results...

could it be honda wanna save some weight in this department?

single cylinder...good power...good vibrations

3 cylinder a bit odd and diffcult to tune since we got to align 3 cylinders...

4 cylinders abit heavy but very smooth, good speeds...

so why not 2?

u get a compact engine, benefits of a thumper less the vibrations...

cannot imagine a inline 4 engine for adventure or dualsport bike...

i think thats y Honda and most companies go that way.

servicing for us also cheaper, 2 plugs and less engine oil

http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/school-SectionSix.htm

A good website to learn about the pros and cons of the different engine type.

Pls.. Go read up on what is a torque curve.

Please, no dyno, no talkie about torque curves.

Besides there's a complicated mambo jambo regarding engine configuration, bore x stroke, gearing if you wanna talk about HP, Torque and power delivery, firing order, its not that simple.

Anyway, long story short, more power delivery at low revs, more pick up, lightweight, go for single cylinder. Want more oomph in midrange? Go for v or parallel twins. V4 or inline 4s are heavier and hit their peak torque and HP in higher revs but they can rev higher thus generate more power. Why do you think Ducs need a 200cc advantage?

The reason why some say S4 pick up good is because its good enough for normal road use, S4 is a de-tuned for road use bike, that's why it has good FC, its like the DRZ vs KTM4.

Thanks, I saw it was the tyres on the 500X but wasn't sure it would be the same for its kid sister. Seems more and more like the 400X's only difference is the engine capacity..

For example, the 500X signals are not self cancelling, I'm guessing it's the same for the 400X (damn shame..).

Not buying yet, gonna wait and see what are the users reports on the bike after a few months. So far, nothing but good reviews if you're looking for a commuter that can also tour.

Also the engine guard, center stand and racks are pretty expensive, hoping the prices will drop once the bike is more popular. I'm riding an awesome 2B bike so not in a hurry at all :)

For now, the negatives I've picked up on are:

- no main stand, no crash bars / engine guard

- side stand not super practical to operate especially with riding boots

- pretty large handle bar (good for posture but will require a brace)

- very little under seat storage

- someone mentioned a weak horn (not a big deal, can be changed)

- no auto cancelling signals

- mirrors seems a bit small (?)

- weight (I think it's heavy, but it's not like I ran a benchmark so need to compare with other bikes)

The pros:

- great engine, good balance between the power and torque you get out of it

- very easy to handle, suitable for experienced and riders new to bikes that capacity

- does great in traffic jams as well as twisties and highway, so great versatility

- handles its own off road (reviews from Thailand [see below] - hopefully soon in Laos once the Thai riders cross over with their 500X bikes)

- good FC for its class (close to 30km/L average speed, probably will drop to 25-27km/L if whacked harder)

- 17L tank

- brakes seem to be complimented in reviews - not sure if we'll get the ABS version here too ?

- overall praised for its value for money (which us in Singapore unfortunately won't enjoy as much..)

Do we know if the 500X is also available or bikeshops only imported the 400X ?

Here's a few interesting reviews of the 500X found on RideAsia forums:

Congrats! I'm also a Duke rider with an intention to upgrade after I get my 2A. Eligible to register for classes next month. Perhaps the new ride will come before Christmas! :p

just as i saw the duke 125 and it inspired me to get my class 2B.

the CB400X "inspired" me to upgrade to Class 2A...

without this review, i may not even smell class 2...

cos the duke is such a nice bike to ride...and i wanted to get something different for class 2A instead of the duke 390...muahahah....

looking at my height and riding habits... CB400X is what i need...maybe if possible can big bore ahahahha

I've already asked the price from speedway and I find it suitable for me. But I'm skeptical, so I'm asking if anyone has taken out from Speedway Motors.

From their Facebook page, Dynasty Motors is quoting $15400 OTR excl insurance. Anyone else has other quotes to share?
