wow, just realised most of the SVs here are coming to the end of their COEs.

I can't think of many other 10 year old bikes which still look as good today. Timeless design!

Still itch to own an SV? Why wait? Hurry up and get one before the stock runs out.

Just came back from a relatively major servicing(timing chain, tensioner, magnet coil...etc), realize that the exhaust had became louder. Anyone exprience something like that?

At first seems normal, but now after awhile of riding became jerky at lower rpm.. now what seems to be the problem?

Posted

Did u do a carb tune? If yes, then your engine is optimise and thus more power delivery --> shiok shiok exhaust sound.

For your jerky issue, did u replace / wash air filter and/or change plug during servicing?

Seems like the same issue I have. pls verify the following:

- Does your bike sound like a chopper

- Power wise, weak at low rpm. moving slowly 1st 2nd gear is difficult

- RPM at 5000 seems difficult to go higher while riding.

if that's the case, your mech have screw up. One side of the cam shafts is 180degree off timing.

That was what happened to me. It took me a few weeks searching the net for answers. On the day itself, Me and the mech spend the whole afternoon to troubleshooting and finally getting my bike back to normal. My Mech was puzzle at how the SV650 is constructed... kept saying BO Li You Yeh...

please send it back to the mech and ask him to open the cylinder head cover.

Turn the crank to F mark, If both cylinder Cam sprockets are aligned then it is wrong.

At F mark, Only 1 of the 2 cylinder Sprockets is aligned. when crank is turned 1 full round back to the F mark. The other cam sprocket should align.

Carb tune was done sometime in May.. Air filter was change in April when i took over this bike, till date have run about 9k of mileage.. Come to think of it, at that point of time, the exhaust sound is abit like chopper..

I ever hear a sv650s exhaust sound in july, seems similiar to what i am having before my servicing.. Now the exhaust sound does sound better even though i got no idea what is going on..

Dun think air filter was change as not reflected in the receipt, my air filter is oem, so the most the mech could do is blow air to clean it.. Yap, I did change the plug and e.o...

- I think it use to sound abit more like a chopper, now seems to be louder and nicer..

- moving off slowly at 1st/2nd gear is abit more diffcult, seems to require more rev then before..

- I will try to see if above rpm 5000 got any diffculty tomorrow.. will also try to see if it is weaker at lower rpm and update here..

Hmmm, ok... guess mech must really know SV to know all this.. what will/might eventually happen if they were "misalign" and continue riding..? I will see if i can upload some kinda sound clip or vid..

The year is coming to an end. The sad thing is that there has been more accidents involving bikers during this wet season. Do ride with more caution on the road.

Will be doing a ride with Barry (both SV650) and a couple more friends to Laos and North Thailand for 3 weeks in Jan 2010. Probably the SV riders can catch up in Feb 2010 onwards.

Hope everyone here have fun during the Christmas celebration and a good start for the coming new year. Stay healthy & happy.

hey guys, happy new year...

sorry to ask a very noob question....how much engine oil does the sv400 use?

thanks in advance and cheers

2300ml - Normal oil change

2400ml - With Oil filter change

2700ml - Overhual.

This is what i got from the sv650s manual.. should be same as sv400s.

The only few i can think off are Beemer's R1100s, GS as well as Honda's CBRs.

Anyhow, there has been many new bike designs in recent years that have been based on the half-fairing-ed SV designs..

Think some pics will help.. :)

try to bro. bike at workshop awaiting parts. engine parts seemed very very scarce and expensive. dunno if wanna scrap or fix...

so, i'll sell my rack first.... :)

Nothing is more deceiptive than a smile.

Ebay is a good place to Hunt for parts. I got my Head light there and ½ of the brand new set price... I vaguely remember head light like in the $500 region. I got mine ~$200 include shipping from US.

But some slaughter you in shipping... I wanted the front cowl, part is US$50 but shipping US$70. steam ah!

If you should decide to scrape... keep want even you can and post it constantly on Ebay... you should get some $$$ back...
