The paintwork follows the Gixxer family.

The SV is a successor to the TL family. Although reviews say it does everything better than the TL, seems like it doesn't have the same appeal.

I think the new model SVs looks pretty sharp :thumb:

Sorry for this noob question. Does the 2001 SV650 (non-S) run on carb or EFI?

Also, I am looking at a near-mint '01 SV650 now and the best price is $5400. Should I get it? It comes with Givi windshield, magnetic tank bag, tank bra, trickle charger. Tyres still new, everything else stock.

Hmm... If you are answering my question, I meant '01 SV650 (non-S). I suspect that it runs on carb.

If it were a SV650S, how much will it be worth? I'll guage the price from there. It's not a mod job, I just seen it today.

OK ans your Qs direct, 99-02 circular frame are a carb version, new angular frame from 2003 are EFI. Never heard of SV650 in Singapore before, Even new vesrion, looi's motor also just import the SV1000S.

I have seen accessories like SV650 meter and headlight for sale in EBAY... I was offered to convert to SV from SVS as my head light got busted... Mech offer to use Bandit Meter and headlight to convert my SVS to a SV, but I don''t like the idea.

then for price, actually there is no market price to peg the bike price on... this is a cult bike... some would pay $$$ while other say it's worthless (especially bikeshop)

So pay the valuve you think is alright, for a ref:

I bought my 99 SV650S for $5500 during 2004

Another bought a Y2K for $3K

Another in YAHOO.SG Auction tries to sell $8K...

So basically it is up to you, if you think it is worth the value you paying, buy it.

I didn't know that the SV is a "cult bike" with such large-varying prices.

I wanted to know the market price and some unbiased opinion from Singapore so I didn't clarify. I apologize. I am currently located in the US, and the bike I saw is a genuine unmodified 2001 carb model SV650. I have been itching to ride here and this is going to be the my first experience with a v-twin.

For US$3.3k I can get the SV. On eBay Motors such a bike is going for slightly higher than that, and my alternatives (GSXR600K1, CBR600F4/i) are at least $1k more.

Some update on the front rim issue. The short answer is, NO.

The longer version is that a Bandit front rim is slightly narrower at the hub. Ah-chong (Planet Motor) was very helpful to take measurements to compare both the existing SV400 rim and a Bandit rim.

Now, there are two options.

1) Press the front rim back into shape. $100~

2) Change the whole front end (triple clamps, front forks, double discs, front rim). $700~

Decisions, decisions...

Posted

Actually, for the SV400, no doubt the single disc is slightly underpowered in terms of braking, the lack of the 2nd disc means the front wheel is lighter by around 3kg. Now try buying rims 3kg lighter than normal ie. Magnesium alloy rims, you'll faint at the price.

What it means for us single front disc 2A bike riders is our bikes are more agile than the twin discs counterparts. Pros and cons, go weigh them. My friend's 02' Monster has brakes so powerful, two fingers can do stoppie liao. Single disc somemore!

I think money is better spent on steel braded hoses and good brake pads :thumb:
