as I'm typing this, my left wrist and my shoulders are in pain... (though bearable)... as i was riding into the src carpark (ard 10am) juz after the hump and a small down slope, this female driver was driving her car out of the slot. She said that she couldnt see me because of the car on the left. In another words, she didnt check her blind spot exactly to make sure there's no vehicle after the slope approaching her car.

As a result, when i try to siam her, she already drove her car halfway out the slot and bang onto me. Blackout for a moments as the car kena my helmet and right side of shoulder and arm area... got abrasions on right shoulder and hand.

Anyway it was settled privately and she actually bargained to pay me lesser.

Hello? she bang onto my head (my helmet got scratches) and hand and want to bargain...luckily my friend and bf were there to help me out as my head still abit giddy after the blackout.

It was raining quite heavily too... tmd.

Luckily my laptop in my box is unharmed. if not....$($)*$($(!!!!

WEll, a reminder to riders using the src carpark... when u turn in, after the hump and the slope pls look out for smart cars that doesnt check their blind spot properly as some cars beside them are just 'too big' that they cant see wat vehicle is approaching.

kitty23: Good to know that u are ok. speedy recovery!!

OT, my vespa oso kena by a lady driver on Sun night 10pm. I was making a U turn along a main road divider, stopped at the stop line cos there was incoming traffic. Just when i was waiting there for the road to clear, this lady driving a small Vios turned in fast behind me (i could see from my side mirrors), didnt brake in time and made a sharp bump on my rear left signal light, causing it to shatter. Heng she was braking, or else with the force of the car at full turning speed i might have been knocked out onto the incoming traffic.

The first thing that she blurted out when she stepped out of the vehicle was, "Sorry but I didnt see u!" :giddy: :giddy:

(btw my vespa looks whitish under the yellow street lamps, and i was wearing a bright red t-shirt that night, my right signal lights were flashing and I was at the centre of the u turn lane just before the stop line. And she said didnt see me... I could only conjecture that she was dreaming. hmm... hey but she actually WAS indeed in her pyjamas & cardigan)

The matter was concluded privately, but it is similar to kitty23's accident on 3 major counts,

a) both were caused by lady drivers.

b) both lady drivers claimed that they couldnt see us.

c) both accident vehicles involved small 2b bikes.

I dun want to make any inferences, feel free to make your own personal conclusions if anyone wishes to.

What i felt was that some specific drivers always think that being in the car is the most safest and nothing will happen to them, but they excluded the possibility of hitting other road users by their carelessness and assumption.

nevertheless to say, bikers are most lugi (in terms of injury) when accidents are involvedd....

so drivers pls be more responsible to other's well being even though u are safely protected in d car.:dot:

Actually it wasnt anything serious lah, just a bump that shattered my signal lights casing, I'm totally unhurt but with a small pinch on my ego.

hmm.. the key is defensive riding. One of the tricks being that since bikes are relatively small vehicles, u have to find ways to make ur road presence felt. This is especially pertinent to 2b small bikes.

Some minor habits that can be practiced immediately to gain road presence:

-Do NOT always keep to the side of the lane, this could easily tempt cars and other larger vehicles to do sudden improper overtaking whereby no safety distance is maintained. Keeping at the centre of the lane will indicate that u are (rightfully) occupying the entire lane, thus (hopefully) force them to fully utilise the overtaking lane.

If ur 2b bike is slow (like my vespa), dun feel paiseh to keep to the CENTRE of the left most lane, u are not road hogging at the left most lane unless u are crawling below 40km/h (normal 2 lane roads).

-Keep your movements smooth, constant, and steady. I.e. do not make any sudden lateral movements or speed changes. This would allow other road users (upon spotting u) to adjust their safety distance from you easily, VV. U will not end up in anyone's trajectory unexpectedly oso, so no excuse for them to say that they did not see u.

Sometimes, deliberate and gradual slowing down to an extreme crawl just before filter lanes helps a lot to prep motorists behind u to slow down and watch out for YOU, or else it is easy for them to assume that u have easily gone thru the filter lane especially if u were at relatively high speed.

-Dun be afraid to light up the road. Make sure that your headlights, taillights and signals are working, bright and clear (but not overpowering lah). Those sportsbikes usually like to sport aftermarket signal lamps which are tiny, and worse, dim. If u have the unfortunate chance to meet those ah pek who do ride scrape-worthy bikes that have no taillights especially at Night, u would have to agree that they are simply road hazards.

If u have large, working and bright lights, USE them! That 2-3 seconds of thumb flicking shouldnt be too exhausting eh? Passing lights, signal lights, brake lights, dun be conservative about using them.

-Add accessories that can increase ur road presence. Highly Reflective stickers are my personal favourites. 3M safety stickers are highly recommended, even keeping your reflective probation triangle plate beyond ur probation period adds that bit to improving ur visibility, esp at night (keep it clean though).

p.s. I will be more than happy to help anyone who wants some DIY stickers job on their bike.

But the most effective is still to develop a highly sensitive road awareness and 'reading' of other road user's intent (HOV perhaps? hahaha). Although it is not an absolute guarantee of safety, I would say a highly developed traffic sensitivity is still the most efficient fundamentals of defensive riding.

Anyone else who has other ideas do kindly share it with us also.

hmmm seems most of us here have experiences from the rear( no pun intended) I had a really close shave 2 months ago from the side at marymount road. A big mobile crane was in the middle lane n going above 50, while i was at the extreme right going at 70. Suddenly he cut abruptly into my lane(he did it when my bike was halfway past his truck) n forced me to e-brake n to the side of the kerb till my tyres were touching the kerb. I stopped promptly at the kerb, recuperated for a few seconds then left.

Safety tip to prevent tons of steel squashing u: Dont be scared to horn big trucks while passing them. erm gd brake disc, pads, tyres, brakehose also help:)

Please refer to the attached list for nomination of motorcyclists for this event. Please fax the form back to 65474688. It would be much appreciated if you could include the name and contact number of the liaison officer so that we can liaise with him/her to mobilize your bikers on the day of event.

2. This objective of this programme is to promote safe riding on our roads. The proposed Guest-of-Honour for the event is Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs.

3. The bike convoy consists of bikers from different companies and motorcyclist clubs traveling from different locations islandwide to Bukit Batok Driving Centre where they will participate in the ‘Safe and Skilled Riding’ competition.
