The fat tyre kits are not cheap and there are a lot of brands in the market for it. Harley OEM ones (150) complete conversion will set you back approx 1.5K including installation.

As for fatties, they go: 200, 240, 250, 280 and 300. I have not come across a 220 yet. It is not cheap and here is an estimate on what needs to be done:

1. New rear fender

2. New wheels

3. New fat tyre

4. New rear brake caliper

5. New rear mud flap (inner)

6. New paint

7. License plate relocation kit

8. New rear lights

9. Primary drive and belt drive relocation kit

10. New swing arm

There could be more but that is a gist of it. All in all, a 240 kit could come to about S$5-7K depending on the brand and parts you use.

It does look totally awesome but your handling may suffer. You tend to drift to the Left more but after a while you get used to it and it is no big deal.

You will lose some cornering capability though as the fat tyre may resist a bit when you are going into and out of turns.

That is just mho.

Cheers

Saw a Rocker & Rocker C for the first time yesterday (I'm in the US)

Crossbones were sold out at the dealer that I went to.... who also had Honda & Yamaha's & Star Motorcycles. Interesting to see all the different bikes in the same showroom :)

You can try ebay.com (USA ebay). Make sure you are buying from a seller with a good reputation.

Or you can try yahoo auctions japan. They have quite a lot of goodies there.

Cheers

Hi, i'm considering either changing to mini ape bar or extend e fork..

juz wanna find out...by extending the fork does that makes the ride higher? Which part will be extended?the whole lower part.? any advantages besides looking nice....:cheeky:

@knightrider:

Hi. If you are extending the fork by just 1-2" and still keeping the front end completely stock, your ride should not suffer that much. However, if you are going to change the entire front end and raise it by getting longer forks, your ride stability may suffer.

What you want to achieve for stability in your ride is to imagine a triangle which is formed by the centre of the rider's position on the seat, to the forks and down to the front wheel hub. by raising your front end, you are raising this triangle up. Generally speaking, the higher this triangle goes up, the more your ride will suffer from stability and higher speed riding. That is why drag bikes or sport bikes (like R1 etc) have the top side of the triangle totally flat and almost parallel to the ground.

Raising the forks, will also mean having a longer brake travel. To control the 'dive' of your front end during heavy braking, you will need to experiement a little to find the best fork fluid and springs combo. To strenthen the front end due to the longer fork, you will also need strong triple trees and fork clamps to ensure the front end integrity is not lost.

with longer forks and apes, you may need to run forward controls to ease the strain put on your lower back and spinal column. Which means, you will need to change your seat as well that has a bucket type allowing your back to rest a little on it.

IMHO, best is to keep the front end stock or have the top side of the triangle as flat as you can and then use Mini Apes or Big Apes to change the look of your ride. Apes will already affect your handling...and raising the front end will make handling worst. At least by keeping your front end stock (ie: not raised), your handling doesnt suffer that much.

Forum friends maybe able to offer better advice on this but this was what i experienced.

Just my 2 cents.

With regards to the yahoo auction japan:

http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/

I have had pretty good experience from buying from them. Most sellers do not ship overseas so if you see something you like, you will need to write to them personally. Most bigger yahoo auction e-shops will ship overseas for them after you have paid them a deposit.

You can get those vintage Bell full face helmets in the 70s. The condition is not bad. You just need to get it re-done by eugene for the interior.

http://page3.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c162235954

This is a pretty good seller.

I dont normally buy large parts like exhaust etc from them as it is way to bulky to ship. Helmets and handlebars were as big as i went.

Just make sure you are buying from a 100% good feedback seller or an e-shop and you should be ok.

Cheers

Wanna check with the folks with EFI HDs using aftermarket pipes.

Do you all remap your ECUs?

Let's say, I change my pipes and I dont intend to change my air filter, i reckon i wont need to remap my ECU either as the back pressure shouldnt make should a big difference until the air-fuel intake ratio is screwed?

Any one got recommedations?

other than Screaming Eagles ?

whats the price range?

where's a good place to go.

thanks

good to find out first so I will know where and what to get when i decide that I want to keep my neighbors "excited"

part 1 you got it spot on

part 2 depends on how much you want to irritate your neighbours. Can get it thru ebay or go hunt those shops mentioned many times here, they have 2nd hand and also 1st hand exhaust. Or you can consider drilling out your baffles....i luv how mine sounded..:D deep and throaty

wow. bell motostar.. something i had been aiming for since i started buying from ebay.. haha.. u a collector of vintage full face too? i got some and u can see them in my RIOT's Den thread.

anyway. what u mentioned about the forks is very relevant. there is alot to consider before jumping into a set of raked trees or jus extending your fork tubes. It is too technical to describe what rake and trail are here.. if anyone is seriously interested in raked front ends or the look for that matter.. maybe we could meet up for coffee or something and chat over it. my springer forks now extended my wheel base by about 4inches.. christine55 u should understand what i'm talking about if i tell u my trail got cut by 4 inches.. haha now the bikes jus having a trail of 1.7 inches... still positive..but.. well.. groovy...

Old Sporty I just bought has drilled out baffles - sounds better than the SE's on my softail. Much Deeper sound.

Can also screw some baffle back in for times when you don't want to be quite as noisy - and then remove again for more power.

I'd be careful going down this road with the new EFI's though with catalytic convertors and built in sensors etc etc. I'm sure some remapping will still be required.

if you go for a stage 1 full conversion then a remap will be necessary, if not at least a fuel tuner, but changing off just the exhaust or the air cleaner, not both, no remap is required..this i have confirmed with our local HD agent.
