thanks alot guys for ur help, i guess the XR is really a fuel guzzler... but im still wondering why on the first pump i got 16km per liter, then when i changed to the termi pipe i had 12km per liter, and ALOT of back firing, do u think if i pop into the dealership later on they might be able to help me on it? or shld i just go to HKL or racewerks to do tuning?

Have you changed the air cleaner to stage 1 as well? I think you will at least get better performance. But then will likely need the power commander. Your exhaust is free flowing, and the original set up is to run the fuel mixture lean. So need to richen it up a bit, but that will likely create worse fuel mileage. Its all a trade off. But 120 seems too low for a tank. But its still in break in mode so may improve after a while. I know I rode it pretty hard the 1000km until I got the hang of when to shift and such and mileage improved, but more due to conservative riding habits.

maxx is rite, go check the xlforums, very useful. or u could go to http://www.hdforums.com too.

when i was riding my xl883, stock i got fr the bike was abt 24km/l, even wif change of ignition module, coil, mikuni 42hsr carb, hypercharger n pipes, i can still get 20km/l. its only after i change to bolt-in cams, it drop drastically to 17km/l.

maybe a reason for ur high FC, could be u still running in the bike, so u cant really get it up to cruising speed.

i find that now harley is running wif efi, fuel efficiency should be better, but on my 06 dyna, i am only doing only 14.5km with stock pipes. a power commander could help in the fuel consumption. but i havent got it fixed yet. hope the pc can solve some of the heat problem too.

The PC will lessen some of the heat problems, by making the fixyture more rich. At the expense of your mileage.

my harley bros.... just to let u guys know... i had just called up a few shops, for power commander 3, it cost 850 + tuning+ installation

for harley its super tuner cost abt 1K+, but they also agreed that power commander does a better job, then harley super tuner... they said the reason why i had very poor fuel mileage is due to the fact that my xr1200 ecu doesn't recognize the changed exhaust n thus the fuel is pumped in more as there is a sudden increase of air output. n back firing even more frequently

but the bottom line is still i cant do anything yet cause the bike is still in for breaking in...

When you are running-in the bike, the FC is confirm lousy one. And the reason why initially you can pump in alot of petrol is because the dealer only pump in very very very little petrol for you to ride out. So your tank is really very empty. Subsequently, when the low fuel indicator lights up, still got some petrol to spare, so when you pump straight away, you will only fill up 4/5 of the petrol.

The first time I pump a full tank on my streetbob after riding home from dealership, I filled up 17L ++ (my tank size is 18L). But now, everytime when the low fuel indicator lights up and I go top up, I only fill 15L ++ max.

Anyway, the high FC could also be due to the fact that now you have more powerful exhaust and more powerful bike, you tend to throttle harder to enjoy the power and sound? :D Ride a while more, finish the break in then decide if you need to do anything major to solve the problem.

Something to take note... the Power Commander is good... but I'm not too sure if the ppl in Spore knows how to tune it well enough or not... Have friends who had bad experience with the tuning... Depends on luck I guess... :thumb:

yup i understand the first part on what u meant, anyway to be more specific, i know that the dealer had pumped abt 1/4, i went straight to the petrol kiosk to fill it up to full, after a few days later and a few KMs later i repumped again and took its miliage, got 16km to the liter, and a few days after that repumped again, and got abt 16km per liter, then came the day which i had changed the exhaust, after 2 pumps i got 12km per liter, first was 11.4 km per liter, then i changed my riding habit alittle and ease up, n i got 12.5km per liter... sadly still no way near

the dealer also advised me that xr1200 dont really need a power commander as its already a torque y bike... n also included that the only noticeable thing i would notice after getting n installing a power commander is that the mileage would drop even more... i wont really notice the increase in power

My 03 XL12S is giving me at least 22km/l on a Mikuni carb, hypercharger & SEI

I'm fairly light fingered on the throttle/

$850 for the PC3 seems high as the PC5 is now out. I thought Racewerks was having a discount to clear the inventory? Can check with them as I paid a bit less.

Also, can buy on line from the states. If your just doing exhaust and stage 1, can email the company or go to their website and download the Map for free. It usually works 95% of the time (as I read). If it still pops on decelration, then can go back and put on the Dyno and that should dial it in. The tuning part costs around $350 when i did mine.

Did the dealer say how to cure the popping on deceleration without the PC? I got the PC3 to try and cure the popping on decel, not for more power - has enough as is.

Actually you should change ur pipe after running in.. imagine your bike running too lean during break in.. o_O You'll need to tune ur ECU after changing ur pipes.. Best is to change watever u want to and den get PC,if not gotta waste money tuning again.. my 0.02cents

A new pipe is ok as long as you dont tune it before the break in period. A lot of new buyers do it right from the start as can get the bank to finance all the add ons. :)

How much are you lowering it? The progressive 412s shocks will lower about 1" as well. But my ride is so stiff as it has to be cuz more potential to bottom out. Now I want a solo barebacks seat.

the kit lowers approximately 1"

And my Ohlins are so stiff (going for maintenance and service also) I dun forsee any bottom out even if i add on another 50kg.

So have you decided to keep your ride now rather than sell it? You will have it all sorted and to your liking soon.

unfortunately, i haven made any decisions. just that now since nobody bothers to view nor make any offer i just do something to change the way it rides.

Anyway i also got to service the shocks before anyone buys it off hence it gives me sometime to do some stuff before selling also.

I wouldn't really mind if I have a sporty and a big twin at the same time.

OK Good. I am in the process of selling off my Wife's Sporty to get something a bit newer. She is short and preferrs a lower ride. Let me know when it's done and we will arrange a viewing.

I do not know how long it wil take to sell her ride though.

Cheers
