hmm...then y don't u settle for a bigger monster instead.save e trouble n legal issues.but if u insist, michael of kallang cycle prob has the expertise. afterall. he helped built motocafe's custom monster. it's featured in http://www.ducatimonster.org ! do be ready to be awy fr yr beauty for extended periods at times if u're gonna go ahead w it

Hi DM, no lah...if I want to go bigger, I probably would not want a Monster but try something else... I am also ok with the downtime. Maybe I give Michael Chong a call tomorrow. Tks buddy for the directions.

Randy, it u r going illegal, u might as well go all the way. Why stay 620cc.

It is like robbing a bank, taking $2 and $2 million will yield the same penalty.

I am not quite bothered with legality since I am already asking:faint:

Which is the US web site? I googled and couldn't come up with any?

Thats very true.. 620cc is more common and easier to source.. Well abt the website I can't remember already but I'm very sure they have the 800cc kit..!!

Hey there... I'm a new monster rider. Just about 5 months old.

Just wondering if anyone has done a tail chop? If you have, what did you do with the seat lock cable? I tried flipping it backwards but the tension caused the spring to be pulled, thus not allowing the seat catch to get locked in. Any ideas?

Another thing... I'm thinking of respraying my frame and rims.

Your input would be much appreciated. Thanks Ducateers!

Ride safe!

Cheers Ducateers!

Hi mazlanhasan,

I bet you have been enjoying the past 5 months on your beast.

I used to ride a ducati and have the tail chop mod done.

The seat lock cable is turn into another direction and you're still able to lock it.

Currently, CMYRS is the new oener.

Wonder if you're able to get him a close pics to show you or you people could meet up and compare.

I have also done the frame with high temp matt black replacing the chanpagne gold color. Took me 3 weeks to complete it by spending nightly 2 hours of it.

If you are not able to get any help, pls do PM me and we can arrange so I can guide you the basics if I can.

Cheers!

Has anyone been using their stock carbs for their rather agey dukes? Or is it advisable to change a newer one? price? had advise to rebuild the carbs. my mech told me my carbs look fine but then again is it physically possible to tell that a rebuild is needed or a change of new one?

vincekam: Thanks a lot for the tip man! I really appreciate it. Wow... you did the frame paint yourself! I am still learning how to dismantle the bike slowly. I asked Mike from KC and he said it will be quite costly and time consuming to strip the bike. I read from DML that this dude stripped his bike in 2 hours with a help from a friend and a further 4hrs to put it all back together after the paintjob. I don't mind the work as long as my Monty gets a makeover!

I read from DML that motocafe had his frame powdercoated. I wrote to him to ask for the shop's location. Hopefully he will reply cos I have not found a local shop that does powdercoating.

Yeah I am really enjoying my ride and am already itching to mod it further. So far I have done simple mods like bar end mirrors (only $9+ a piece from GIANT hehehe) and the tail chop. I haven't even found suitable plugs for the frame ends. But hey... thank you for offering a helping hand. You guys are just so supportive!!!

kish_garfield: I have already done the tail chop. If you mean the frame job... not yet but I intend to do it myself... the stripping and assembly that is. I can't burn much $$$ and this way I get to learn more about Monty and what makes Monty a rumbling monster!

DML has a lot of tips and tricks to doing this. I'm now looking for rear and front stand to strip Monty down. Any ideas?

Thanks Ducateers!

kish_grafield: You sound very experience with the technical mumbo jumbo of bikes. Coolio. Honestly... I don't know much about bikes but just riding them. For 6 years I rode a Phantom 150 (named Floozy and I still have her) and didn't even know how to change the engine oil until I got Monty. The minute I got Monty, somehow, I got this egging on to learn about bikes and how they work etc. I'm still pretty much a newbie so I can't say much where technical stuff are concerned. One thing I learnt from Ducati owners globally is that, they are one helpful group of people. So kudos to all for the camaraderie and willingness to share. The Ducati world is a great place to be in!

Hi kish_garfield,

I am not riding a monster anymore. It's was sol to CMYRS last Christmas.

I did the tail chop myself (purchase the tail chop from the net) and spray of high temp black to the frame. No engine drop is applied. Using traditional old newspaper to cover method used.

Cheers!

Hi, I was force to do the frame job myself because the mechanic wanted to charge me SGD$2000 from dropping the engine and spray the frame.

What I did was not a perfect job but it's worth saving the SGD$2000.

This is what I did.

1. I cover the indise with old newspaper and spray 3 to 5 layers of thin coat of high temp black with it.

I hate leaving my bike at workshop unless it is a must.

As for powder-coating, I ever heard you need to leave the bike there for 1 week or more. Same goes for powder coating your rims too.

Did you know motocafe bike was left at Kallang Cycle for some 2 years!

I always see Daniel working very hard to his bike on most evening. Heh heh

Cheers!

vince: BTW just curious... what are you riding now? So you think black frame would be the route for me? Was your bike yellow too?

Cheers Ducateers!

Hi mazlanhasan,

I am riging a MV now.

There are not much selection to go along with the frame. Coz High Temp color are limited. MATT BLACK is easiest I think.

Naw.. my ex monster was Red. You can view it from CMYRS avatar. He's the proud owner since then.

Hmmmm you're riding a Yellow Monster now? DId you just purchase from a female rider? What's your plate?

Cheers!

Hi Vince: MV - nice ride!

I was told the same $$$ for the strip and paint job. That's why I'm not keen to send it to the shop and rather do it myself. I guess you did not strip the bike fully. I thought of that but from what I read in DML, the results may not be very pleasing unless you are really good at spraying (which I'm not sure I am). Anyhow... it's worth a shot and I guess with patience, you can achieve the result you want.

As for motocafe's bike... I'm not surprised. Too many bikes, to few mechanics. I had a different experience I'd rather not talk about. (in public at least. Don't want to sound like a b**ching newbie). Motocafe is selling his bike. His last posting mentioned his bike is now at KC for sale.

Yeah I bought my bike from the female seller from 88DB, FQ plate. Good ride but I think she suffered a fall from the looks of some dents on the pillion's hand grip and exhaust. So far so good. No major faults except for screeching rear brakes which I fixed, thanks to Ducati Suite's advice.

Cheers Ducateers!

Hi mazlanhasan,

Nope. I didn't need to loosen any blots at all. Just lift up the seat and cover with newspaper and ready to go. Oh yes, you need to prepare lots of cig and beers to go along. They will be useful when you sit aside and wait for it to dry.

Yes, with the patience and dollar saving, one have to believe they can do it. Of coz, it'll not be a profesional job done.

But I tell you, you cannot tell the different unless someone come near your bike and inspect and then they will notice the DIY and PRO job.

Yeah, I always got problem with the local mech. They just don't have the interest to restore or custom mod bikes. Sigh... this is sillypore anyway..

Hmmm what is 88DB mean? FQ plate.. Hmmmm...

The monster screeching problem seems normal to may isn't it. Heh heh..

Oh yes, you can get lots of item from ebay.

But make sure yiou have a mech to assist you fix it or you're ready to DIY before you purchase. Otherwise you'll end up with pieces all over your store room.

Cheers!

Hi Vince,

Eh, a slight correction - it was 4 years. Anyway, the love affair with my monster has ended. Haha!

Hi Vince,

88DB is a classifieds website where I got the bike ad from. The posting is still up... hehehe http://sg.88db.com/sg/views/postDetails.aspx?PostID=88360. I fell in love with yellow Monty the minute I saw it. Grabbed it the same day I viewed it and settled transfer the next day and the bike was in my carpark the same day!

There was another black duc for sale on yahoo auctions but too ex. Owner was asking for 5.8k for FQ plate and I need to buy a new plate no cos owner wanted to keep it.

So you knew about this bike? It's old but aesthetically refurbished. The engine is still running fine but like any old bike, needs tweaking here and there. I heard about the "normal" screeching problem but a simple trick of inserting aluminium sheet solved the problem. Here's my GURU's site: http://http://www.ducatisuite.com/brakepads.html

Hi motocafe: Thanks for the reply. I'm just surprised that after all the hard work (4 YEARS!!!) you put into your monster... you are giving it up. How do you feel man?

You must have gained many valuable experience while modding it. Open another Duc workshop perhaps? Specialise in mods!
