Old passport cannot. Only new biometric one can be used. Next time ask the custom at the gate where to fill the form and get instant approval. If you are not sure how to check through, there will be customer officer to help you. Many people also new to this. Actually I find it's quite slow. Another limitation is you must ride solo then can use. Because they tie you to your bike checkin together. If got pillion, then have to use the old method.

Once everyone get used to it. It will be must faster. But their finger scan should be faster. I think they are using 386 processor.

Accurate image processing takes lots of CPU cycles.

The ICA officers at Woodlands told me these.

1. To use it, the rider AND motorcycle must be registered. It is for solo rider only.

2. Registration can only be done at Woodlands or Tuas checkpoint on Mon-Sat from 10am to 3pm only)

3. Registration is at Block E at Woodlands. To reach there, you need to go thru departure. After registration, you need to go to Johor and u turn back to Sg. (Wonderful run-around innit.)

Is it faster to use? depends ..

1. If there are 10,000 other M'sian at the reguolar lanes with you, yes it is faster cos there are much lesser bikes at the Bio lanes.

2. Is the passport clerance check faster? definitely not. Because you still need to do the usual take-your-helmet-off sequence for face check, then your finger print need to be read. If you wear glove, one more piece of gear need to be taken off and put back.

3. From experience on many finger print reading devices, they do not always read first time out. If your finger is cold or wet or dirty or cut etc.. its a no read.

Is it worth it? if the regular lanes are clear, it would be faster. otherwise 1 above rules.

Incidentally, I have written to the ICA about this & awaiting their reply.

That's it, I'm registering...

I dislike the queue.

the only bad thing to me is the bio lane is very very narrow....don't know how those guys with FJR/AT/GS with H&P sidebox can squeeze thru or not....

they have made the biometric lane quite narrow to me.Even my ST11 with side panniers has the tendency to hit against the pole sometimes and its worse when it rains. Although I am pleased with the biometric lane i guess they have overlook some things too.Imagine peak hour...to reach the biometric lane you have to join the congestion with other bikes.I am reg with biometric...but its on situational basis i will use the lane.
