Hi,

I own a ZX10R 05 model.

Just curious, is it normal for the temp to go 100 celcius to 104 celcius at a slow traffic mode (say riding about 40km/hrs or stopped at traffic light).

During noon time or hot weather, the temperature will be in the region of 80 celcius to 95 celcius at less than 100km/hr speed condition.

The Temperture will drop to 80 celcius or lower if only I ride faster at higher gear say 5 gears onwards.

I am using the coolant (which is from netherland and no need to mix with water one). Just put the whole coolant into the radiator. I need 4 bottle of coolant everytime i change coolant.

All seem ok to me. The themostat will activate the fan when the water temp hit 96. In situation of jam or poor air flow, you would normal hit 100. Once the fan kick in, it will bring the temp back down to 80 - 90 region.

Hi guys,

Tks for your reply.

It made me feel comfortable now knowing that it is normal.

By the way, I have installed a Yoshi slip on with the exhaust cable (which is under the pillion seat) detached now.

It gives a better louder sound and easier to control the engine.

But will this contribute to anything bad to the engine? Or will this (detaching the cable :means the valve always open) made the engine heat up more faster at slower speed?

I've removed the servo too.. gives a louder exhaust note.. so far i find that the bike is beta to ride w/o the servo but others think likewise. So i guess there wun be any prob. juz my 2 cents.

Hi Volcano,

Yeap....agreed with you. That's why I am bit confused??:giddy:

Do you have the yellow light (the gear change indicator) flashing (at the dashboard) when you travel at a very high speed. Mine used to flash when i go more than 170km/hr last time.

Heard that US specs will not only flash but the engine will also cut off the power if you go on high speed.

But for those Open spec (non US spec), the light will only flash but the bike will still go on without any power cut.

But now..my yellow light seems not been falshing eventhough I go more than 200km/hr since I uncable the servo exhaust. Or is it because I changed new batery and got all the things reset (the gear change vs RPM settings at the dashboard thing). I am not sure.

I tot the gear change indicator is white?? hmmm..if im not wrong the light is only on when u hit a certain rpm, irregardless of your riding speed.Dunno abt US spec..

:btw: why did u change a new batt?

Hi Volcano,

Aik, your's white ahh??

Mine is yellow...the bike is a canadian spec which means an open spec.

Anyway, guess everything is normal now since you also do not get any light flashing when you travel at high speed. Maybe, my RPM was set last time...so when I took out the batery cable for cleaning, then the whole thing might had reset ; that';s why now no more light flashing at the gear change indicator.

By the way, what Engine Oil you use?

I used Motul last time (which is an ester based).

The engine was still feels rough. (you don't get the honda's soft feeling on kawi).

And on my new oil change, the shop recommended to change to Q8. It's more expensive than the motul.

Yes..it is fully syntetic. He told me that the engine will be smoother with this Q8 oil and will run cooler. But....I don't feel any diffrence after chaging to this Q8.

Some said that using a semi syntectic will make the engine feel smoother on Kawasaki bikes?? But have not tried yet.

Any input on this?

Hi Volcano ... Hi erry,

Yeap...mine too canadian spec. The light also yellow.

I changed the battery coz there was once I was out of town for about almost a year and the batt kaput. Furthermore, I hardly ride as most of the time my job scope need me to be out of town.

And yessss....kawi engine always rough one. Think it's their trademark or somethin.

Me too have a tough time chossing the right engine oil to soften the engine but still not found yet:giddy: :giddy:

Purpose of engine oil is the cool the engine and lubricate moving components in the engine (especially the gear). Different viscosity of EO is crucial as it will affect how effective it could cool and lubricate.

Our local climate and humility is an important factor to be considered as well when deciding on EO.

After trying so many EO, I personally prefer Silkolene Pro4 and Motorex Power synt 4T.

Will try this next time.

By the way, did the engine run softer after you use these brands?

I felt the engine runs smooth with Maxima oil.. especially after 'wacking' it..

Also i noticed the engine becomes smooth after valve clearance.

Softer as in sound? Sound wise would be the same. The bike run cooler and cool down quicker. I frequent ride up the North and even after 4000km (oil change interval) the gear changing is as smooth ever.

Hi Suix and Hi Volcano,

Tks for the reply.

This means the engine will still be "rough" on low rpm and generate all sort of noise during idling no matter what engine oil we use:giddy:

Think it's time for kawasaki to develope some special engine oil to soften/dampen the "roughness" of the engine.

Oh maannnn....i still miss the softness of those honda engine.

But power wise/handling wise...off course kawasaki ROCKS!!!:bounce: :bounce:

It is this "roughness" that attract us to this factory.
