Hi all,

I got into an accident last Wednesday night.

After work at night, on my way back. Approaching x-junction (i'm going straight) and traffic light was green in my favour. Even green man was up on my left at that time.. I noticed a van in the opposite direction stationary in the turn right pocket. However as i crossed the line, the van driver suddenly charged out. I applied my brakes but could not avoid the collision. Driver was uninjured and together with some passer-bys they helped me off the road. Afterwards I was conveyed by ambulance (driver came to exchange particulars with me) to the hospital, suffered 2nd degree burns on my right calf and other injuries to a more sensitive area. TP called when i was in A&e to inform me that my bike is with them and advised me to make an accident report with the police once able.

Anyway the next day I made an accident report with the police, and went down to my insurance reporting centre to report. Thank goodness the driver behind the van helped me take photos of the accident cause i did not have a camera and was quite in shock at that time, basically the van driver wrote his vehicle license no. wrongly and my insurance wasn't able to proceed with the insurance statement with a non-existent vehicle license no, so the photos the driver behind the van sent me had the license plate no.

Right now, the bike is with my insurance approved workshop but when they towed it from the traffic vehicle pound they didnt receive the keys.. so i had to go down the workshop to pass them my spare key.

Would like to check with you guys a couple of things.

1) Normally after an accident like this, who keeps the bike keys?? I thought the TP will have it so i called the IO but was told unless there was property that needed to be handed over to me then he would pass me the keys personally if not the keys should be with the bike..

2) How long will all the claims, bike repair etc all take? I seen other posts and saw some responses like 2-3 years... thats quite a long time eh.

3) Confirm my NCD for my insurance will still be valid since i'm not at fault all? And how will my insurance be affected? Or it wont at all?

Thanks and rgds,

Emmanuel :)

1) Not very sure, for me, the key is with me.

2) Is all depends on TP, if i'm not wrong, the one who help you to claim require the statement from TP and pass to lawyer. Bike repair you can pay for yourself

1st. You can ask the workshop who's helping you to do the claim for help. Like procedure.

3) Unless the lorry is claiming against you and the claim is successful. If not, no.

Hi Raidon,

Thanks for the reply. For no.1, the motordiam called and said they sent someone to the traffic vehicle pound and the keys were there. so alls well for that :)

So the van driver charged for beating red light?

Depending on how the junction is set up, there may be no red light, but it's still failing to give way to vehicle with right of way.
