Hi guys,

I'm planning to get a WR200 soon and want to get some mods done. Perhaps someone here could give me advice on how much to set aside for these mods?

But firstly I'd like to find out if it's possible to fix a electric ignition start for the WR200? I've always wondered why a humble Phantom comes with an electric start while the slightly pricier dirt bikes always come with kick starts. Perhaps someone could enlighten me? If I can fix an electric start, how much will it cost?

Secondly, I'd like to fix a digital speedometer+tachometer(revmeter) for the bike. Is it expensive to do so?

Lastly, I'd like to find out how much it'll cost to fix these cool set of black rims(incl. new knobby tires) on this KTM to my bike.

Recommendations for shops would be reall helpful as well.

Many grateful thanks in advance guys! :cheeky:

sweeet ktm,

brand new off-road tires is abt 140-180(both)

as for the rims, just anodize to the colour of your choice

cheaper alternative is to DIY, just spray paint

if u got the cash, then change to EXCEL rims, blink blink

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I know, cool KTM but can't afford one. :weep: I'd prefer getting a new set of rims though. Are the EXCEL rims expensive? Aren't the ones on the KTM pic EXCEL rims? Btw, you've got a cool bike. Is that a WR200(sorry I can't tell dirtbikes apart other than for obvious ones like KTM).

hey,

haha, thats my ex wr4, sold it 2 week ago

yup the ktm in the pic is equipped wth excel rims

if i'm nt wrg, the newer models come with excel rims

1st qns, yes you can fit an electric starter to WR 200. but the cost is almost half of your machine. whoopass 1k!

2nd qns, yes you can fit a digital speedo, but even if you install 1 that has rev readings, you still wun be able to get revs reading on the display. WR200 doesn't have to capability to sense the number of revs.

3rd qns, yes you can too. either get a set of matching hubs for your WR200 and build them to a pair of EXCEL rims. but another warning, it's gonna be expensive. If not, just get the rims and relace it to your current hubs.

places that i can recommend, mezzo @ no20, lorong 25 geylang.

they just did up a WR200.. fully rebuilt, showroom condition.. very nice indeed. you can contact them @ 68421097 for more details.

so far i seen so many knobbies OTR.. and some of them only go Orchard trail..

there are so many kinds of tyres on the road, doubt TP will be that free to summon you for the wrong use of tyre, IF there really is such a rule.

anodise rims.. you have to strip the whole wheel apart. take out spokes and the hubs.. unless you got another wheelset to standby, you will have to BMW for 1-2weeks..

Hey Archer, btw what's so good about the Excel rims that they cost so much? I was told normal rims cost about $200? I just want the black rims for the look. Planning to buy a matt black WR200 then doll it up with Carbon Fibre accents(do they sell the CF decals?).

Oh yeah then how much is it to change the tail light to LED ones? Sorry to bombard you with so much questions. I would ask my bro but he hasn't been riding for years. He had 3 scramblers in succession that's why I'm into them too. Heavily influenced...hahaha His last one was the best though. A KTM 250(can't remember which exactly). Just know that it was neon orange and powerful!

Posted

Excel rims.. good questions. they are tough, literally bomb-proof. thus the higher premium as compared to normal rims. you dun expect to pay monkey for peanuts right?

carbon fibre decals? you mean like those poor 'bengs' who paste it on their fake EVO bonnet? hahah!! that you have to source elsewhere..

black is not in already.. white and pink is! hahaha..

depending on which kind you wan.. should be around 60-80bucks excluding workmanship..

u can fix a rev and speedo digital meter onto WR200 or other bikes.....trailtech makes one..the model is Vapor......for rev...think its wired up to the spark plug cable....something like tat....can check with the mechanics / bike shop that deals in trail tech...mezzo is one of them.....saw a WR200 wif vapor fixed up by ah seng in mayo street....also got the rpm reading...

Posted

Thanks Reymund. :cheer: I've checked out the trailtech vapor. And I'm glad the rev meter will work with the WR200. Cause it looks pretty cool. haha

Archer - So are the EXCEL rims any lighter than normal rims?

Yeah I'm talking bout those poor bengs who put the CF decal on their EVO bonnets. Then again, will it be ex to get the two fairings(the two pieces of plastic attached to the fuel tank) and the rear mudguard(the one that the tail light is attached to) custom made out of carbon fibre?

I kinda like the matt black with CF accents look. heh heh....anyways do pple fix those white headlights(HID?) on their WR200s?

Btw, what are you riding now?

Posted

no idea about the weight, but usually with aftermarket premium items, they are usually tougher and lighter. so i guess it should be abit lighter than normal rims.

not worth IMO. unless you only go to orchard trails, then perhaps it would be a good upgrade. CF hurts when they break..

rims i think no matter how tough, you buang also gone one..

anyway, orchard trail not fun la... still need to pay erp!! come off road!! haha.. shrouds make CF, you got think about those thieves or itchy hands in spore anot? easily removable one sia.. if accidentally drop bike, CF shrouds will break anot? i know plastics wun break, the most scratch only..

bank-yuppie, WR200 machine price now is about 1+k.. after adding a COE of 1k, you get the OTR price, which is about 2+k..

that motard, w/o COE going for 2.1k, after COE, 3+k.. unless you are going to ride that bike for 3-4years.. if not you sure lugi big time..

i say, not worth, unless he has the original wheels with him.

Hey Tim,

Did you take that pic of your bike in the Seletar Airport area? Just curious...cause the background looks familiar.

this is a rather late post.. carbon fibre is expensive...only because its virtually unbreakable.... you'd have to be travelling at the speed of a bullet to be able to crack a CF fairing.... ok maybe i exaggerated.... but CF doesnt have a history of being broken or cracked easily... thats y its so ex... if you hav the money, go for it...

p.s., i ride a WR200... the company i work for specialises in fibreglass products, CF included... have already made my own mudguard TOTALLY out of CF. will eventually have my entire plastics replaced by CF...

expensive, but worth it....

None but the brave deserve the fair

My SERIOUS Rides:

WR 200 : Dec 2000 til Dec 2010

CF doesn't break easily, true. but it breaks damn easily upon impact!

i just broke a mountain bike CF handlebar just on a fall.. note, mountainbike..

CF is light, stiff and strong. but the trade-off for all these, it's brittle. :faint:
