To my knowledge, seems to me that nobody bothered to make a free electronic map of Singapore (street directory).

Most, if not all, Singapore maps like these usually come in a CD or are bundled with the hardcopy map itself and are made by for-profit companies and distributed to bookstores to be sold.

Hi have been looking for a singapore map that can be install on my laptop or pda any one got the link

are you looking at street level maps of Singapore ?

You can get these free maps of Singapore, and whole of West malaysia from here :

These maps are intended for Garmin GPS users.

However you would need to get load the Garmin Mapsource Programme in order to read these maps. Although these a licenced software, there are many ways you can get them for free. The easiest is to borrow from someone who has the CDRom.

Here are some samples :

Map Scale at 5km

You can even correlate with Google Earth

I would probably invest in a GPS, but I think I would probably put a raincheck on that one...Probably when I decide to embark on serious touring

You don't need to have a GPS to use these maps on a computer.

The computer is for ease of viewing and trip planning such as to plan your waypoints in the PC, then download them to the GPS. Vice-versa, after the trip, your route, and whatever positions you have marked along the way, can be downloaded to the PC.
