Hi all

A harley has always been one of my dream bikes....so am looking around now....but I realize that harley depreciation or value is quite different from other bikes....as in a 10 yr old bike can still ask for 10-20k in some instances....so I'm not too sure on how to percieve value on harleys

Some questions I hope you can help me with:-

1) how would you value a 5/10/15/etc year old harley?

2) in terms of % of original price?

3) How do you put accessories in consideration?

4) Is this the same for all models?

Thanks for all your advise! Appreciate it!

What's the diff .. so long as got buyer, its worth its value ..

Buying Harley is not just getting a bike; its owning a lifestyle.

I'm not making adverstiment statment hor ..

But can't exactly wear shorts ride HD to buy chicken rice right.

Got many friends who own-ed HD can't appreciate the attention, sold after short time ... its a very personal choice lah.

i have seen around. i learn that sportster is the model which lower price tag. does anyone know the reason? Will 7-8 enable me to purchase 1 (2nd hand of cos)?

I seen the picture of sportster1200R. not a bad design.

For your info, i know nothing about harley pricing and etc. been doing so light reading on it becos i wishes to ride 1. i am a family man, thus family come first in the spending level. however, my hobby is motor bike, curiser is the only section i have never touch b4 and wish to enter the experience. so don't burn me if i say or ask anything that doesn't sound right or nice becos i really have no knowledge. that is why i am asking.

hard to find a 7-8k sportster la... maybe a '98 and below 883 that is close to stock would fetch that price. Then again, if some1 wants a close to stock '98 883 and your asking price is 15k, he would buy it!

for shortie,

the price of a harley can never be explained just like that. as in how much would a 5 yr old softail cost. if the softail is fully modified, stretched tank and mikuni and andrews and bakers then it might cost 10k more than a stock softail with accesories. and this stock softail with accesories might cost 6k more than a SUPER stock softail.

then again, it depends, if some1 likes your design then they are willing to pay money. for example, 18.5k for a '96 roadking and 18.5k for a 2000 roadking classic. if im looking for an Evo engine, i'd buy the '96! (which is what I did!) :cheer:

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

Hi, just to share, after 19yrs off the bike and one fine day I decide to try out on curiser, a 2nd hand dragstar 400.. to save me the time & $ used to take public transport

after a few lockup on the rear on wet surface for that yr , I start to consider and change to a new 900 Yamaha street bike which I never lock the rear disc brake whether dry or wet ..

However I never feel enjoy on the new ride other than safer, perhaps it is the hi-rev engine noise that not suit old man like my age..

at last, I make a painful decision to change to a HD after talking to few HD owner.. and get a new FXDLi from HD as I am not comfortable with 2nd hand HD pricing..

I enjoy every moment on the bike since then, the best feeling is when other HD owner giving you a wave on the road...putting a big smile on the face full day...

come to think about it, if I go straight to HD in my first move, I need not to spend so much "school fee" to own a HD after 2 yrs...

it is all because:-

In the first place I tell myself I will only spend

1 yr later, I tell myself for my own safety, I can put aside 20K.

another yr later, I feel 33~34K on the new HD is what I can do at that moment despite many telling me the same $ can get a Off Peak Car since I never see sunlight on the road...

Prepare to have the same experience like mine.. anyway, as a responsible family man, I control my spending and only add what I "want" (minimum) into my bike ;).

Have a nice day..
