Hey guys

I currently live in Japan but I am relocating to Singapore early next year. I currently ride a 2012 Ducati Monster 1100 EVO that I bought second hand in Japan.

I've looked at prices for my bike second hand and brand new in Singapore and it looks like I would better off shipping my bike to Sing rather than selling it in Japan and buying the same in Sing...

Would any be able to help me please with the import process? For eg. do you know any shipping company you would recommend or even an importer who could look after the whole process?

Any general advice would be welcome.

Also, I've got termi carbon pipes on the bike, is that going to be a problem for import?

Thanks!

Well, this is a blog of a guy who imported his Beemer from the UK to Singapore.

No doubt shipping companies will be different, but the paperwork you require to get it into Singapore should be somewhat similar.

Or at least it will give you a heads up as to which agencies to approach.

Yes. Easy to park. Got dedicated motorcycle lots. Mostly 65 cents per day but of course more for places in town. Well not really that many and mostly you can guess where they will be but speeding is not advisable due to the unpredictable actions of other motorists.

Cool.

I have a Termignoni carbon racing exhaust on my Monster - is it legal in Singapore?

Is there a website for buying second hand motorcycles in Singapore? I trying to work out whether it is worth importing my Monster to Sing or whether I should sell it in Japan and buy one when I get to Sing.

Hi F.A., good luck with the move! Be prepared to say goodbye to those great seasons tho, might be the last snow you see in a while! ;)

First, on the exhaust, u should confirm with LTA directly, via email / phone. Still, while the self-import guide does not really touch on it, if you look here, you need:

1. A certificate from the manufacturer, confirming the exhaust is fit for the bike (have one already? not sure if available post-purchase.)

2. Certification from LTA/NEA recognised test lab confirming the exhaust complies w/ exhaust emission standards (is this already on the import checklist?)

Perhaps you can talk to the AD in Japan, see if they can get Minerva Motors, the AD for all Ducs in Singapore, to help. Then again, if you bought 2nd hand, maybe that's not an option...

Last option, perhaps sell / swap your Termis in Japan, pick up a new one here (from Minerva or otherwise)?

Second, on a website.... you here! Check the BikeMart, but check the Used Bike Sales Section of the forum (direct owners only), more effective. (Don't remember if there is a minimum post count requirement).

Some vendors have their own pages, and there's similar websites to the BikeMart where they might advertise... You can Google for it, but I'd say here's your best bet.

Alternative is to talk to Minerva in case they have any pre-owned bikes, they also have a new bike price list (your EVO is $30,900, or Y2.4m!).

And btw, people speed here all the time: if you go on the highway, many times even the left-most / 'slow' lane is already right around the speed limit, the inside / 'fast' lane is going 10-20 above easy. Enforcement could definitely be stepped up, it's really not a rare occurrence... Definitely not recommending it tho, see the penalties for the key offences here, the fines are somewhat heavy and more than 40+ will get you will be hauled into court.

(On the other hand, all bets are off if you head into Malaysia, not rare to see people doing 50 over, but things work... a bit differently there).

On parking... as zalk said, there are parking spots, but not really all that many, and lots of garages don't allow bikes in. It's very common to see 10-20 bikes parked on the pavement / grass in certain areas because there are no close-by parking areas. Note that garages will charge significantly more for bikes, can be 50c / hr, though I've seen worse ($5-ish per entry). This is the only really half-decent source for parking areas, though do note that it can easily be out of date / incorrect given its nature: http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/243383-SgBikesForum-Official-Parking-Guide

Cheers, hope that helps!

Here the authorities are extremely efficient at giving out summons, let it be speeding, parking or the slightest modifications. Anything that involves taking your money, they are very very good at it, everything else, they are useless, tedious and sometimes borderline retarded.

You've been warned. Welcome to Singapore.
