New, updated version of our beloved Gen6 VFR800.

As a previous owner of a Gen6, I am disappointed that the weight was not reduced by another 20kg (to 220kg), no USD forks fitted, but the updated looks are way better than (imho) than the VFR1200, even though I am sad by the demise of twin under-seat exhaust, a conventionally mounted exhaust would be good for mass centralisation (more weight reduction possible with an aftermarket shorty exhaust)

Was wondering why Honda would not want to go all out to develop a new sport touring V4 VFR800 (with gear-driven cams, pls), keep updating this 10 yrs model, and launched a slew of parallel twin bikes (last count was like 6?)

I like the clean, elegant lines of this model - classic VFR looks with a few modern touches. I guess it's a testament to how well designed our bikes are; this same basic formula has served since 1990 with the first single-sided swingarm RC36 model. It may not be the best at anything, nor is it the fastest, lightest or have the most high-tech features on it, but its still a damn good bike that does a lot of things well. Honda has taken a step in the right direction here, if it isn't broken, don't fix it, but improve it with some feedback from owners.

The weight reduction is most definitely welcome - however apparently the rear subframe is now aluminium. Lighter than the steel subframes of the previous gens, but I wonder how durable they will be, especially fully loaded with panniers and a pillion on bumpy roads. USD forks would give it a nice bling factor but it still looks great the way it is now

As much as I would love to see gear driven cams make a return, I don't think it will happen any time soon, they're simply not cost effective. Which is why I appreciate owning a 5th gen more and more! Built during an era where Honda was going all out to restore their reputation for reliability, with a racing heritage from the rvf750 rc45 to boot. It doesn't get much more "exotic" than that!

From http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Honda/Honda-VFR800i-1998-2001-TC/ and http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Honda/Honda-VFR800-V-Tec-2001---current--/, it seems the 6th Gen gain 10 kg over the 5th Gen, and now the 7th(?) gen loses that 10 kg again.

The perplexing thing is, why is the newer one down in power?!? 106 vs 108 hp? Claim consumption of 17.8 km/l, I hope that is a low estimate as I"m getting 19 km/l on my 5th gen...

But nice rims! And the soft curves do resemble the old Honda design somewhat. Better suspensions and 'smoother' VTEC? Tempting....

It is definitely great that Honda intend to revive the VFR800 and technology refreshment from existing Gen 6 . It seem to me Honda is lacking of creativity in their design department. The design of 2014 VFR800 just look like a clone from CBR family where the same platform are use across their 300, 400 and 500 category.

Mixed feelings... Happy that Honda has not abandoned the 782cc v4 platform. Sad that it has taken a shortcut and reused the styling from the smaller CBR bikes. This venerable sport tourer with a racing heritage deserves more attention than that!

i got weird feelings, after looking at the specs of the new vfr800f ,

i am leaning back to looking/grining/salivating at the vfr1200 which seems to be a blip/blop in the vfr life cycle.

I would prefer if it comes with DCT and ride by wire (for throttle blip when downshifting).
