Just to share- I distinctly remember my instructor at CDC ever mention when he went overseas training, the ang mo asked him to put 20cent coin between his tank and thighs and grip tightly to complete 1 lap without dropping the coin or coins. Just out of curiosity I tried doing this one month ago (never put coin la, jus keep reminding myself to keep gripping) and IMO for those riding street/race bikes especially, by gripping on the tank with both your thighs tightly is beneficial in several ways (pls correct me if I'm wrong):

1. better handling

2. put ur weight forward and better prevent tank slap

3. train ur inner thigh muscles & somehow it actually improves sexual prowess

4. improves ippt shutter run and 2.4 timing (a little bit)

5. feel more confident when lane splitting (cos u "merge" with ur bike)

6. prevent palm numbness

I think only downside is very siong at beginning of this regime, need to be always aware and trying to make it a habit was not easy. Also when riding with pillion it's almost double the stress on ur thigh muscles due to inclination... also I'm quite worried what will happen if my muscle cramp when riding 90-100Km/h on PIE (luckily didn't happen la). Riding was definitely less enjoyable at the beginning but after a month I enjoy riding more than before! FYI I ride almost daily from Tampines to NTU about 80Km to and fro.

PS: if u're up for it, try at ur own risk

To ride on the road, You need skills,Stamina, or even luck.

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

Cultivate the confidence to face the different situations. Don't let yourself to be subdued by the environment :thumb:

2 schools of thought on this. one is press crotch on tank like mentioned. the other is to leave a small fist-sized gap between crotch and tank.

both methods stem from the same concept: that you 'lock' in your body's stability on the bike using 100% your legs and 0% from your arms. if you achieve this and feel comfortable remaining in the position, then you're correct regardless of any gap between crotch and tank. pressing crotch on tank 'forces' you to stabilize using 100% from thighs, but its not strictly necessary. after all, when GP racers 'tuck in' and press their chest onto the tank, it is impossible to press the crotch onto the tank in this position; they push butt all the way back and start using knees to grip onto the tank, but its still 100% legs and 0% arms.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Btw benefit #5: feel more confident when lane splitting (cos u "merge" with ur bike)

Hug my bike? Damn I'll sleep with it bed if I could!

But seriously, you don't have to clamp your thighs on the tank. Just keep them in contact with the tank. However when going at higher speeds, you will want to grip the tank tighter. But again, it's quite instinctive. Try going at 200kmh and see if you can point your knees out.

bro part of the idea is to train ur thigh muscles and enjoy the "perks" of doing so after a few weeks, btw after a few months i feel i can squash a papaya if i kiap hard enough with my thighs (wont try though)

forgot to point out it can prevent ur palms from getting numb as ur thighs r holding ur body weight instead of ur palms on the handle bar.

Try do emergency brake (both wheel lock) with and without gripping your bike and I'm pretty sure you feel the difference..
